So im toying with my condition/trap build, I have it specced for full condition dmg, (carrion armor, afflicted runes, all power+vit+cond.dmg armor) with 25 stacks (sigil of corruption) i can sit at around 1800 cond dmg giving me ticks of bleed @ 140+ self buffed…

Current trait setup: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBlYDbEpKyOxywi1OQsKsn2DN1/zzeYIH9oL+INJ;TkAKYMwIgx2kDGJMrFGBsXA

The only thing is im wondering if it might be worth it to drop 200 cond dmg, in place of another 20% extended bleed duration from the marksman tree. The skills are a lot better for output of damage (Piercing arrows would allow more stacks of bleed on more mobs) and surely extended bleed duration would be more beneficial in the long run, seeing as adding damage to condition ticks requires hundreds of points to see a small increase…

So my question to you would be:
Do you think condition duration would benefit more that straight condition damage?

Calculate it correctly, the bleed ticks in a certain interval, so if say, bleed ticks every 1.05 seconds, then if you have 4 seconds of bleed, its only going to tick 3 times, BUT, if you invest a LITTLE bit on condition duration, you can get that fourth tick.

What i’m trying to say is, don’t over invest in condition duration, only get enough for that fourth tick or third tick if you don’t have a lot of condition duration.

Nah you want the most damage out of your bleeds because in dungeons just about every other class can stack bleeds and what not so your duration doesnt matter its the amount of damage you do before you hit the cap that matters.

You don’t gain so much extra condition damage at high levels.

At 1400 Condition Damage Bleeding dealing 113 damage instead of 110 at 1300 Condition Damage

btw, you say condition trap build, but I don’t see any taps on the skills. Did you just forgot them?

If you have the gold, go for the sup runes of the mad king. You get power and cond duration.

Drop the warhorn and go for the torch. Burn has awesome condition dmg.

Also it’s not only about bleed. People only think bleed when they read condition! For the long fights burn and poison is amazing (they only stack duration). And in dungeons you help your group a lot with frost traps. When foes move slowly, your team’s AoE have better effect.

With conditions, length vs damage will vary depending on which condition you’re talking about.

Bleeds are almost always better off with condition duration instead of condition damage bonuses. Poison on the other hand is better with condition damage since it often comes with a long duration and does low damage.

For some conditions it depends on your circumstance. For example, condition duration for burning is usually great since burning tends to have a short duration with high damage per tick, but if you’re running a dungeon, it’s pretty common to have fights where burning is constantly up on your target since burning from allies stacks the duration. In these situations, condition damage will edge ahead, but this is also why I try to avoid condition builds in PvE.

Someone posted an incredibly useful post about specific cut offs for condition duration. Mainly for bleeds. But the gist of it is that since condition damage only ticks per second, unless you reach that threshold any condition duration is wasted.

I chose:
companions might – to give pets might on crits
expertise training – pets deal extra cond damage

I did that because there seems to be a redundancy on the number of bleeds going at once they aren’t all used especially in dungeons where so many classes are doing the same ones so increasing the damage of the pet you chose ( and i chose as well ) seems to work well especially since they are adding about 5-6 more bleed stacks without any boons as a normal F2 attack for that pet. If you get too many bleeds it will give you diminished returns on your damage output so I feel it’s better to enhance the damage of those bleeds rather then the duration or sheer number, especially when fighting bosses where there is a cap.

The shortbow already adds extra bleeds when you flank so you don’t really need the extra bleeds from Sharpened edges as your pet, traps and shortbow all produce them just fine. (I thought it was weird that you made a cond build and didn’t use traps as pointed out by Awe Extender)

I usually use the spike trap, the fire trap for the extra conds, it’s not too difficult to run up and drop traps and fly backwards with the quick shot even in dungeons.

I use the combo of Troll Unguent and Signet of the Wild because both of them work well together ime and with the Oakheart salve I find that my pet hardly takes any damage and is pretty well protected from burst and cond damage from bosses when using the Arctodus pet. (higher vitality pool, immunity to damage for a short duration) I use empathic bond to have my pet take conds from me, it’s much easier to switch a pet out then to rez me while fighting.

But this is all how I like to play do it your own way experiment. That’s one of the strengths of this class you can experiment for the most part.
