Condition or Power Build Ranger
Hi All,
Just came back after 3 years. I was near fully Grenth and Berserker Geared for both Conditions and Power exotics.Which path is current the most viable for PvE, Dungeons/Fractals now?
Am also running HoT now and Live Season 2. Which build overall is the way to tide me over PvE content which will transfer over well to Dungeons/Fractals and Raids?
High level fractals you will likely want a condi build. A mix of Viper and Sinister ascended gear, Axe/Torch, Skirmishing/Wilderness Survival/X. Quick Draw to reduce CD on Bonfire, Sharpened Edges, etc etc. This will also work for dungeons, but a power build will work fine here as well.
Currently running a glyph + shout (marksmen, Druid, Beastmastery) power build.
Not sure if my constant pet switching (to get call of the wild) is kitten ing my dps. Also I near always am on longbow as there is no sync with melee weapons due to range differences. I mostly use sword/axe to jump away…. Will Greatsword be better? I tried Staff, but to me staff in pve is very useless (aka I do not know how to use it)
This is fine, staff is really only useful for getting back into CA form quickly, so unless you are going for the healer role, don’t use it. GS does have swoop, so you can close the gap pretty easily if you want to be able to switch between range and melee. Pet switching shouldn’t hurt you much (I never noticed) and making good use of our pet’s F2 skills is part of the class. Jungle stalker for might is always good, but there are lots of options to play with.
And other then Glyph of Empowerment, what other glyph is good? I am always too ranged for the other Glyphs. Also my shouts are Sic Em and the Elite one to increase swiftness and might.
Operating at range will make most glyphs useless, but in dungeons and some fractals, you don’t really have the option of range, especially if you want to effectively buff your teammates/get buffed by your teammates. Most group content in this game is very range unfriendly. Take that into account when making any build for group content.
Thank bearshaman.
Been a pow ranger since day 1 using longbow(melee on switch). When fractal came out, made it all the way to fractal 34. I stopped playing for almost 2 years.
decided to play again 2 months ago and still rolled a new and improved power build ranger(with druid spec). Made it all the way to fractal 92 and was able to finish my legendary back. This was all done as a pugger w/o help from friend or guildmates
A player once told me while inside t4 fractal: number 1 rule! either you run a zerk build or gtfo.
I understood his point since most players would rather aim towards time and effeciency.
Overall, power build is still decent if not great imho.
You can definitely run power builds in higher level fractals, you just encounter enemies with higher and higher degrees of toughness, which has zero effect on condi.
And if someone kicks you from a high level fractal group for playing condi, they clearly have no idea what’s going on, and you’re better off not running fracs with them anyways.

Was that before you quit or after you came back? It used to be that condi’s were capped and zerk was the only way to go, but that changed a while ago.

Exactly right, condi’s are king in high fractals because mobs have such high health and toughness it’s a pain to down them with power builds. It can be done, it’s just a lot slower.

Condi ranger feels so… Very limited in terms of access to condition imo. Would rather roll necro for the condi but thats me. I have nothing against condi ranger since ive never tried 1.

necro can stack a lot of bleeds but really shines when other classes are present. epidemic is a huge boost to necro condi dps. ranger can stack a few burns but also applies quite a few bleeds and poison. I know at one time condi ranger was second highest condi dps, with this last patch we’ve dropped a notch or two i think but no ones tested yet.
Ranger condi has the advantage that we can ramp up quickly, as opposed to the slow crawl that most classes contend with. Bonfire is key for that, combined with Splitblade for bleed and possible burning projectile combo. In terms of overall condi dps I don’t know that we are 2nd, but we are pretty decent. And it works pretty well in fractals, where most bosses aren’t terribly mobile. Add on traps, entangle, Ancient Seeds (if you are going for personal dps and not buffing the group with GotL), etc. you get the idea.
I run condi druid axe/torch and equip shortbow whenever i can’t meele a boss or the group decide to kite instead. Its really fun and successful and works even better with pugs, because you can heal them up and etc …
