Condition skills for GS and LB
I think its like because the idea is that different weapons function differently, and some weapons are just not intended/designed for certain functions?
I think you’re confusing choice with “how I want to play”. The way the weapons are laid out now, does leave room for either power or condition damage builds. Greatsword and longbow just leans more towards power builds, and the sword and shortbow leans more towards condition builds. But you have plenty of access to conditions through utility skills, traits, pets, and sigils, to make the greatsword and longbow viable condition damage weapons.

Some kind of “Glyphs” suggested long time ago would do something. Like Runes in Diablo 3, changing nature of the skills. But too much balancing. I feel that having weapons focused on power (maybe with some conditions useful outside of doing damage) or conditions (but with some things like Quick Shot for SB aswell for fights) is a better option than having hybrid weapons, scaling neither good with condi or power. It’s just hard to balance and people want to do go in certain ways, imo, rather than being jack-of-all-trades. Look at our Axe MH. Mostly used for conditions, yet weak Power AA. No real idea.

^ I think this nails the reason why we should not have condition skills on GS and LB.
GS used to put out bleeds on Maul. It was totally useless because it was a small number of bleeds with no other good source of conditions. It also detracted from GS as a power weapon because the damage on Maul was compromised by having some of its damage as bleeds.

Not sure about now but people crunched the numbers and found the old vulnerability on maul was a dps nerf vs the bleeds.
I get the feeling Anet wants lb and gs to be power weapons, they just have no idea how to make them viable. They thinking nerfing our other weapons will make them stronger, hilarious.
Split damage weapons can be pretty bad. You need to increase more of your stats to increase your total damage by the same percentage. This can ruin some weapon pairings in a variety of classes.

Dat shortbow though. It’s so good.

I disagree, we just think it is good because it is our only weapon with the entire package (hard cc, soft cc, evade, condition application) and because it is mindbogglingly easy to use. If we had some weapons that were actually worth using other than in niche builds, I think we would all see how bland and normal the shortbow really is. As it stands now, it is our most basic option that works, so it appears strong.

And people are kittening that it should get its range back? /mind boggling

Ranger | Necromancer | Warrior | Engineer | Thief
Firstly – Sword is our highest dps weapon, does NOT lean towards condition dmg unless you mean to use torch offhand.
2nd- Someone posted what they called a “Bleeding Hearts” build that used a hybrid longbow (dps bow) build with axe/warhorn (for cc/buffs) that was shown to do extremely well. (pvp strictly)
3rd- Cant have everything, be creative.

I would prefer if conditions was something to spec into via traits, runes and sigils, I think, so you would be able to more freely pick weapons based on personal preference in it’s evades, aoe, attackspeed etc.

What’s depressing is if LB was given an aimed shot skill it would probably be a complete and viable weapon.

I have a feeling the devs think a skill like that would be too hard for most players to use. That’s something that I think drags this profession down very much.

I wasn’t implying we hold down the button and the longer we hold it the more damage we do. I was saying we should just get an identical spell to the Warrior’s rifle burst skill. It can do the typical 25% less damage simply because we’re Rangers and ANet has a kitten for making us deal with a useless pet.

Yes, but then they would have to remove one of our other bad skills and that would be whack-a-mole balancing.
Don’t take me too seriously.

What makes longbow not viable? I mean, on the forums today I am reading that rangers want A) aoe like necro B) kill shot C) stability from a shout (lol that was my idea) D) increased range on both bows…
So when these features are implemented, I wager ANET changes the profession name to “Godmode”.

lol the people who already have killshot don’t even use it.
Sigils, traits, traps and sun spirit compensate lack of built in conditions. Those two weaponss can be used effectively on a condition build.
Edit: so the choice is there already. Also forgot pets, although i believe pets don’t scale wi h ranger’s stats.
