Confused On How to Gear my Bunker Ranger
It is a standard build and a good one, both power and condition work you need to decide really! You can go all out survival with health regeneration food, Signet, BM Trait and use healing runes and keep regeneration up and then go play! If you feel its too much mitigation keep adding damage until YOU feel comfortable.
Thanks! I think I’ll go for power, the gearing definitely seems a lot simpler for it. Any recommendations on runes to use? Also, should I go full Soldiers, or mix it with another set?

Or wait till the nerf bat hits before you buy any expensive gears and see if the build is still any good.
If you want power then start with cleric and soldier…Weapons cleric for sure…Rune Dwyana or however you spell it.
Now remember, this is a start and you will want to add some damage after that…
Knight Armour is going to be what you want to sub in as you get comfortable with the build and want more damage.
Cleric / Soldier / Knight : at a mix that makes you happy but allow me to link a video of the best WvW pure Bow Power ranger I have seen..he has 3 clips and you can see how he started in cleric in video one and ended up in knight and cleric by the last video.
Axyl,
You do not mention what you want to do with your ranger (PVE, WvW, dungeons, sPvP). That factor would might affect some advice you receive.
For a condition build look at the new Sentinel gear (same stats as Apothecary, but Toughness is the primary not Healing Power).
Good luck finding your ideal solution.
this is the setup i run with: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.0|7.1f.h5.f.1f.h1l|c.1f.h5.8.1f.h1l|1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d.1f.71d|2x.0.2x.0.3x.0.2x.0.3x.0.2w.0|0.0.u37b.a6.u56c|30.d|4j.4q.4r.4w.54|e

Healing power does not suck for rangers, ignore people who say otherwise.

Sorry for the confusion! I’m planning on doing WvW mainly.
I appreciate the reassurance Cufufalating. Could you clarify why it’s better for us than other classes?
Thanks! I’m going to go with the Reyna’s set first, and slowly build my way up from there. I’m going to have to settle for sub-superior corruption runes for the time being, until I can find an exotic torch.
The Video you posted, Cempa, was incredibly helpful. Wow! Thank you.

there is no reason why you cant run a bit of both, i have apoth armor with doylak runes cleric trinkets and 1 of each cleric weapon and a mix of sigles of life and sigels of Restoration. for me this works really well zerging and good for havoc and ok for solo (different sigels would be better for solo).
weapons wise i use A/WH + GS for zerging A/WH + S/D for havoc and SB + S/D for solo and i keep a LB in my bag for wall defense knocking people off in the jumping puzzles . If your just starting out as a ranger i would go SB and Axe/War horn
pets do a big chunk of our damage in BM build anyway and our personal stats don’t affect them.

Last night I had a strange encounter with a Warrior, Sword+Shield and this guy hit harder than anything I have ever seen. I was using SB+GS at the time because I was moving across map and GS is just phenomenally good at covering great distances. As soon as he gets into melee range my HP bar drops like crazy…I kited him for a long time until his friends showed up, GS—>get out of dodge -I was kiting zergs with GS lolo
The point being what kind of sword+shield warrior could that have been?
PS Yah love the build especially that Thief’s are a joke with this setup and I love it when they go stealth and on my screen I see BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK (GS) then 3 sec AFTER that I see the Thief :/ -though good ele is a really hard fight and they burst like crazy- but with GS I think I have the best mobility in the game or close to best.

Of late when I run my full heal suit I am vulnerable to HGH Engi, when I run Hoebrak/Lemongrass I handle the Engi fine but not the same sustainability vs multiples.
Still messing with the right balance, have almost 60 laurels in the bank and waiting for the balance patch on the 28th before I plan the next twink..
Have no idea what the warriors spec was, but I did see a great Warrior vid not too long back that seemed really badass, he was using GS and did have a shield on swap in vid..

Indeed running the Knight setup any 2 good players and I have 0 chance, ele+thief for example or ele and burst guard and its all over in seconds.
I have to learn how to set up my pet, that Warrior did not get hit once with my birds F2…Normally I bait my foe and pop GS block so he gets knocked down, I use F2 and GS5 for the daze/stun then Maul…If that lands its over…But against good players they seem to know how to get my pet out of the fight….

Rangers have many ways to apply Regeneration to ourselves (pets, traits, healing spring, druid spirit, etc) as well as being able to lengthen regen by 33% through traits. We also have a signet which regenerated health and a beastery GM trait which heals us over time.
Most classes dont have access to so much passive regeneration and rely mainly on their heal skill for healing, which doesnt scale all that well with healing power (although it does scale up a bit).
Some classes can make themselves regen builds but to do so requires serious sacrifice on the DPS front, whereas rangers can achieve it with little to no DPS drop thanks to our pet.

I like using celestial trinkets on my power based BM setups, for weapons and armor I have used both full knights aswell as mixed with soldiers I find it’s very strong gives good damage output and still not suffering so much on the regen wich is still somewhere in the 200+h/s (not counting signetheal, petheal or foods just the regen boon) despite not using a single cleric piece.
