Critique on PvE Power Build
It’s pretty much impossible to go wrong for map completion. Traps and berserker armor don’t really go together since traps are condis, but if you want to play with them it won’t be a disaster.
You probably want signet of the hunt though so you can get to your objectives faster.
If you wanted to lose the other two traps I’d take signet of the wild and quickening zephyr and call it a day. Almost dungeon meta build.
Thanks Fluffball. I see what you mean about traps. Makes sense.
Naked with a longbow is probably best option
LOL…duly noted!
Hi all, I’m new to ranger; have a fairly fresh level 80. I’m looking at this point to map complete with her and was hoping you can give me some advice on my PvE build. Once I’ve got PvE land mapped I can look at a WvW build, but that’s not what I need atm.
This is what I came up with. I can have a LB for a backup ranged weapon. How are the numbers for power, health, crit chance, etc? Are traps more useful than other skills for mapping? Please give me your thoughts. Thanks! Oh, I should note that right now I only have 4 traits due to ANet’s kitteny kitten screwed kitten trait system, so I’d like to lock down a build and only buy/obtain the traits I really need right now.
You can run full berserkers without any problems, just be sure to pack some harpy feathers and jump guns to have an easier time with some skill points/vistas.
Sword/Warhon + GS is unbeatable if you want to zip across the map fast. You can always swap weapons anyways so you aren’t locked to this set if you aren’t comfortable fighting with them.
Drakes are your best bet for mindless mapping too. Most stuff die fast anyway even with drakes but the cleave is great vs felines + they can tank without being too low dps like a bear.
Thanks Izaya! Getting around fast is always great for mapping, especially 3rd time through :p I’m still learning about all the pets and where/how they are best used.
S + GS moves crazy fast. I’ve been using S + LB lately in open world since you just arrive to dead bodies and never really have to stop running forward to attack things. Although Maul does pretty much the same thing if you start ‘casting’ it before you arrive at the soon to be dead bodies. LB + GS is probably the fastest open world combo now that I think about it.
Pets are not terribly important for open world if you’re a geared level 80, they rarely manage to get a single hit in before you’ve killed everything, until you get to Orr. A single maul will often 1-hit kill 5 enemies if they’re in range. With that in mind, birds give you swiftness.
The only other PvE thing you need to know about pets is cats do the most single target DPS so are used in dungeons.
Thanks again Fluffball. I’ve been reading up on the changes to LB and am quite tempted to use it often just to get used to it, since I leveled up without it as it seemed “slow” compared to the other weapons. I found SB and GS my favorite combo, but since I want to be able to run some dungeons and take my ranger into WvW, I’d like to get comfortable using all the weapons.
Now that they affect the ranger and the pet baseline, I use signets for map completion. Speed increase helps moving from heart to heart and that +25% damage increase just melts groups of enemies. Pull everything to you, unleash your sigs, Maul. Move on to next heart.
