Damage difference: wupwup vs zojjas?
PvP doesn’t use stats from armor so you would literally be creating it for wvw.
Not worth it in my experience.
Better to go for a power mix in zerg, or full dire for roaming.

Celestial used to work nice for Ranger pre-Specialization, but they took out some of the flat damage modifiers and things like the passive Sharpening Stone proc that made hybrid work without might-stacking.
If you can find a way to fit might-stacking in then maybe you’ll find something that works. So far I haven’t found anything flexible enough.
Sounds risky, havent seen anyone who tried its viability, and the dmg drop would be noticable. Personally I just run full zerk or zerk with some Knights or valkyrie for either more toughness or vit. Dont underestimate full zerk either in wvw, its fun blowing stuff up if ur longbow, and u can even run it in zerg backliners and pick off squishies at enemy backline zerg.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
I don’t think it is risky – it is a trade off. One thing I would do for sure is look at the build(s) you run in an editor then change the armor under consideration. I’ve done that looking at my primary build, WvW/Trapper, and it looses a few stats here and there but gains in other areas. Overall not too bad all things considered.
If I wanted to I could gain those few points back by swapping out a few accessories that I already have. Which then makes the set viable and worth my time. That is, outside the stupid name of it (unless there is some GW1 or GW2 connection in the name – I just think it is silly).

in the context of wvw roaming, celestial is a great set, as all builds the you can think of can work wearing celestial gear (glass LB being the exception where you really need to be full zerker)
celestial jewelry is well and truly worth it be cause you can use it to make a glass build more tanky or a bunker build more glassy.
it is a great set to have available, i use it a lot when i am experimenting with builds.
Currently don’t use it in pve use either zerker or sister as the defensive stats are wasted
I’ve gone hybrid with shortbow in the past. It works well enough for small scale fights.
with the way things are now I wouldn’t go hybrid bows at all, I would use the standard a/d+s/t combo. Axe provides might and you can throw a sigil of strength or battle in there for more. for celestial to work you have to have might stacking. A/wh+s/t would also work, and you could blast your fire field. SB can put on a lot of bleeds but it’s too position dependent and the power dps isn’t that great anymore.
edit: unless you’re dead set on celestial i’d also look at a valk/cav or knight mix. you’d lose the slight condi dmg from cele but game more power and overall more defensive stats.
Further to looking at stats in build editirs, I’d advise you try build you can in PvP, since you play that game mode. It costs nothing, and you can see if you like the gameplay.
I personally don’t like celestial on ranger, cause I think our builds are not making the most out of the stats. But some people do enjoy it.
if you’re really looking for two sources of damage without being too squishy you could go with a rabid/carrion mix that way you would get power/prec/vit/tough/and condi
Celestial works great in PvP situations and will be great in WvW. Check out Arrow Slanger’s build in the Heim’s 40+ build tread.

Ok mate, Here is the build I run for PVE/WvW, and it’s really awesome. The power damage and crit damage you trade for condi damage is really worth it. You can litterally melt your foe under your conditions. He cleanses ? No prob’, you still deal some pretty decent power damage until you restacked your condis.
CONS: you don’t bring anything to the party other than spotter and your DPS, which is already good, but may be looked at by some people, and you are self sufficient. I soloted AC with it. And it’s also good for solo roaming.
For sPVP I run this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNAV8YjEqQLLWuCOsAVLGMEq+dD2WgDg1tB+c/2r9S2VFA-TJRFwAHuIAAeCAx3f4ZZAA
Traded QZ for the spike trap, for obvious CC reason when trying to hold a point. Also added some bleed stacking and intel sigils.
You’ll have a hard time at first, but if the fight last more than 5 seconds, you most likely won.
I’ve been playing around with it the past week (full celestial armor + traveler runes, mostly celestial trinkets).
From an expenses standpoint, you can kinda make it work. I like to play with lots of different skills, including both direct and condition damage. It was getting expensive making all those different armor sets (and annoying storing them). So I built a celestial set (borrowed the trinkets from my elementalist).
The idea was to use the same armor for everything, and switch my “builds” via weapons and food/utility buffs. So since longbow is a power weapon, I use a berserker LB. Since torch is a condition weapon, I have a sinister torch. etc. It kinda works – DPS is noticeably less than a pure zerker build (I’m in the process of building a close-to-pure sinister set to compare to that). It’s definitely tankier. I swapped one of the sigils for bloodlust or corruption, and a full 25 stack makes up for a lot of the missing DPS (in both direct and condition damage modes). But it’s still not as strong. And if you die and lose the stack, it’s considerably weaker.
Anyway, it’s an interesting build. I probably wouldn’t recommend it unless you like switching up playstyles a lot like I do, or you’re too poor to afford several armor sets. I’m in the process of testing it with different trinket sets to see if they can add a little more bite. The trinkets are much cheaper to get than armor, so having a berserker, condition damage, and bunker set of trinkets is probably realistic for most people. It’s not going to win any dungeon run DPS contests, but should appeal to folks who just want to build one equipment set which lets them use all skills.
If they haven’t changed anything about it from a year ago, you pretty much have to want 6 stats befor celestial becomes worth it. If you want 3 stats then obviously a single type (e.g. berserker’s) will be better. If you want 4 (e.g. power, precision, ferocity, toughness) or 5, then a mix of two or three types will be better than celestial. Celestial only wins if you want 6 or all 7 stats. So if you’re not interested in two stats (e.g. healing power and condition damage), then automatically a mix of other armor types can make a superior build than celestial.
