Your niche is to re-roll Zerker War/Mes and run CoF Path 1.
This BM nerf is an outrage, if they want to nerf BM Bunker, nerf the healing. It will effect our other specs a LOT less.

Oh Lord….people be freaking out about balancing patches before any real patch notes come up….I can’t speak for any builds / roles beyond what I play, but I can tell you as a melee Ranger I can stand toe-to-toe against Warriors and Guardians all day. I use full knight’s armor and a mix of p/v/t and knight’s trinkets and it’s working wonders for being both super tanky and having high sustained damage. My pet’s dps, while pretty kitten good, is merely icing on the cake to my character’s damage. I typically use greatsword / axe/axe or greatsword / longbow (depending on what I feel like using for the day) and have had no problems with keeping up with dps or survivability. Condition builds do counter my build, but unless it’s a condition thief I can usually power through most condition classes from all the evades / blocks / reflects / interrupts my weapon combos have.

CoF speed runs are one thing, pvp is another. None of those warriors or the mesmer would last half a second in a 1v1 against anyone of any class actually trying to win.

That’s just a vague description used mostly for marketing. I wouldn’t try to use it as a bible or some kind of contract that ANet has signed. They’re doing the same thing over on the warrior forums, but doing this actually doesn’t accomplish anything.
Besides, one could argue that description is actually completely accurate. They are “unparalleled archers” because they can use both the longbow and shortbow. No other profession can do that, and thus has less archery options.
Also, rangers are quite capable at “bringing down foes from a distance with their bows”. In fact, anytime an enemy is downed with a bow should be clear evidence that this is the case.
As far as your niche goes, I believe that’s partially up to you to decide. The game doesn’t pigeonhole you into one precise role (i.e. warrior == tank, thief == DPS, guardian == healing), so you need to experiment to see what works for you. I’ve seen high damaged ranged DPS builds, strategic trap-based builds, durable tank builds, all sorts of stuff.
I’ve felt comfortable with mine for awhile… primarily ranged DPS with the short bow with a focus on rampager’s stats, with sword+dagger to allow for evasive, highly mobile melee capabilities. But I’m not locked into that, there’s other stuff I can try that I just haven’t tried yet. It can sometimes take awhile before you find what you really want (took me forever to find a spec I liked for my mesmer).

There’s also lots of non-speed run groups that don’t have those requirements. They aren’t that slow either, some can even be just as fast as speed-run groups with the right compositions.
And yeah, those warriors would just get eaten for breakfast if they were fighting an actual intelligent opponent instead of AI that won’t even bother to try and avoid attacks.

Which is why Warriors are bottom of the barrel in SPvP. But the devs don’t seem to understand that. They always just say “But look at how great they are in PvE!” without really realizing that it’s only because of GS/HB.
But yeah. Rangers need a lot of help, not nerfs.

Watching the video where the kid says “bunker rangers are OP” really makes me laugh. He should have just said that he was a warrior that keeps getting killed by hunter pets when he stops to channel hundred blades. Between pet not able to hit a moving target and arrows constantly missing, any class can kill a ranger by just jousting.

They need to just split ranger entirely. Spvp and Pve can be completely separated. Then they can hugely improve on dungeon play for rangers. Probably a silly dream of mine though -.-

too many posts here asking about specs…equipment…strategies etc etc without saying where they play. It makes a BIG difference between PvP, WvW, PvE, dungeons.
It is a big job, but Anet can’t balance a class with a one brush stroke. They need to adjust and tweak it for each venue.
