bugged second page.
ive stopped using amulets other than valk and celestial. theyre the only ones that give us a good combination of survivability and damage. ranger is in a tough spot right now, but tbh so are other profs and many other specs. i’ll still play my bunker ranger over the signet necro, thief, or any engie spec in the game, for example.
[…]
Since when are you criticizing the Ranger that harshly? You used to have a more balanced (in terms of how good the Ranger is) opinion back then. Not that I disagree, my signature certainly shows that there are many things I would like to see changed, but I wonder what got you to change sides.
Anyways, I think the main reason why the Ranger gets no meaningful mechanics (the Ranger lacks blast finishers, reflects/blocks, party healing, party condition remove, reliable buffing potential and so on) is his nature of being slippery if traited correctly. This is the reason why we see full-melee builds being the most desired build now for roaming IMO.
The Ranger in general can be described as getting its main power through weird combinations. There are not many mechanics the Ranger has access to, as said earlier, but the Ranger can combo many subpar traits and abilities to halfway decent builds. The obvious downside to this is that it requires more skill to keep track of all the details, as well as a lack of build variety.
It is up to ANet to decide if that’s the way the Ranger is meant to be played, or if the Ranger needs reworks and QoL changes, which I’d prefer.
but the Ranger can combo many subpar traits and abilities to halfway decent builds. .
but other profs can combo many powerful traits into extremely effective builds. maybe that’s why JROH has been walking that line. and tbh all the most skilled rangers in the game are finding it difficult to go on until a major balance patch is released. ive settled into my cele bunker build that plays exactly how you describe. and it’s pretty good. but in the current state of the game it’s also meaningless at the level that I play. and how could it be when a bunch of highly skilled individuals are only playing d/d eles and mesmers? you literally don’t need to play anything else, and those who are min-maxing the game wont.

I figured that the Ranger never really had convincing damage, may it be power or condition. What makes/made the Ranger decent in 1v1 scenarios is that he can keep the enemy at bay. A fight usually revolves around lowering the damage taken to the point that your damage starts to hit your enemy harder than your enemy is able to hit you.

which is why im loving my cele bunker right now. I can 1v1 any bunker if given enough time, or just evade spam until I get help. I can kill thieves and eniges, pressure the new Mesmers without getting 2-shot. it’s all pretty neat until you look at the big picture – that Mesmer can just leave, stealth, pop one of your teammates into downstate and move on; that warrior can wipe your entire scrub team and maybe I can even fight him 1v1 with rampage on, but that doesn’t matter if my team is kissing the ground all game. my point is, I just cant make enough of a difference in these crazy times. no ranger can. and that’s the frustration right now.
So every class has gotten improved with the the new trait system, except ranger and engi both of which have gotten worse and fallen by the way side. I’ve been hammering on the thieves and mesmers from ranged and they just heal and stealth right through it. FYI, a pet should be part of our control system, if you think they can be 30% of our damage, then find a new game! Note: I’ve been top 50 for the last 2 years, if u say L2P then F* off!
I agree with every single word you wrote man.
Ranger is bad and everyone knows that.
There is nothing to learn and nothing to improve.
After 3 years of disappointment..there are only 2 options left for a ranger : Changing class or changing game.
I hate to admit that rangers have Always been left behind..and they always will be.
7000 hours spent on ranger. Tryed everything.
If you fight vs a good mesmer or thief or warrior you’ ll loose. No matter what.
L2P issue?^ I only know there are no rangers in top spvp tournaments.
Ask yourself why
7000 hrs? You realise that is 6+hrs per day for the life of the game, yeah?
7000 hrs? You realise that is 6+hrs per day for the life of the game, yeah?
Some people I know have literally over 10k hours into the game, so I won’t doubt his statement, it is totally plausible.
I’m not sure if you’re aware (I’m honestly not, I’m using the statement as a literal and not to represent hyperbole) but the ranger has been “dead” in competitive play since pretty much the celestial meta.
Now, that isn’t to say that good builds didn’t exist, and good players didn’t exist, and that sentiment still holds true even right now. But the ranger class isn’t being help back by itself, as a matter of fact, most of the changes are, and will be overwhelmingly positive for the class when the bugs finally get addressed.
The thing is, Ranger doesn’t really bring much to a team right now OUTSIDE of damage, and that will always be the forefront of the problem. Mesmers have insane “slipperiness” with incredible “get out of jail free” cards and can take portal for amazing team plays and moa for shutting down bunker targets and rampage warriors on top of their damage.
There is never a circumstance in this game I could imagine, both then, and now, where you would ever want to take a power based ranger over a mesmer or thief.
Condi ranger on the other hand is strong, but will always have weaker output than other classes, and because of the lack of targeted AoE, the build gets heavily pushed towards sidenodes/1v1s where the other classes can do both small scale fights and larger teamfights with the same build effectively.
Really, our weak utility skill selection is a huge part of the problem, and our biggest competitors, Mesmers and Engineers (don’t really seeing other classes performing within the scope these two do, and while people would also be tempted to cite thief, thief will always have the niche mobility that nothing in the game can match or compete with), overall just have the better tools (although even Engineers are considered pretty bottom barrel tier at the moment, and guess what rangers and engineer share in common? If you guess design dev, you’d be correct).
We are just in desperate need of some cleave/AoE, and the ability to do something other than damage (or damage while bringing suboptimal utilities compared to another class who can bring more optimal options that do more things while doing similar/same/more damage).
+1 This, and maybe someday the devs will take a look at these forums and take some notes on what the class really needs. I’m holding out hope for druid, not really for PVP though, but more for PVE and getting to be more useful in a strong team setting.
at this time, in PVE ranger and necro are the bottom of the barrel, spotter doesn’t bring the usefulness it used to because most classes got massive buffs in terms of crit chance or they received huge power spikes and can focus more on assassins gear. Most good dungeon groups cap out crit chance with Fury fairly easily. Frost is still somewhat useful but why bring a ranger for that when you can bring an engi for utility, a mesmer for utility, a thief for utility etc. etc. etc

Oh, it is plausible, just not probable. This guy has been QQing on the forums about how Ranger is terrible since launch, so I just cannot believe someone would continue playing a class they think is so bad for 6 hour a day, every day. Not to mention the rest of the professions he complains about.
And, to spend 9 hours a day for 3 years (10k hrs) playing a game is absurd. Addiction is real.

Since when complaining is a crime?^
@Wuselknusel;
The only answer I can really give you is that the entire game used to be more balanced, and the introduction of continuous power creep has never fallen in favor of Rangers over other classes, which has just increased the disparity between the classes.
I still think the class has enjoyed amazing, much needed improvements.
I’ve just never seen why a person would take a power ranger over a shatter mesmer when looking to optimize team comps for PvP. Actually, interestingly enough, Engineers were hurt enough by their trait reorganization and reduction to grenade kits range that I think now, more than ever, that condi-rangers could push for the top spot at condition builds.
The bad part about that is that conditions are still considered overall weak in the meta with all of the removal :/
Once offhand training gets fixed in the next patch (whenever that is), I’ll only be waiting on Healing Spring fixes to optimize the build.
Besides all of that though, I’m pretty sure the general line of thinking is that we’re just going to have to stick it out until the next big, meaningful patch, which…. Probably won’t be until the expansion.
As for how I am? I’m super frustrated with ANet and their information trickle. We should be at the point where all of the elite specialization blog posts have been made already and we are just waiting on live streams to show off the changes in action. The longer they wait with information sharing, the less time there is to gather feedback, and the more chance there is that HoT is an even larger, buggier, imbalanced mess than what it should be (this is inevitable with any MMO expansion).
It’s a very poor way to handle it on their part, and ANet is really working against themselves at this point. I wake up in the morning, check the blog posts and reddit, and go “oh, no new information or information I care about” and don’t typically worry about GW2 for the rest of the day. I shouldn’t be so happy to see datamines either, but hey, I’m seeing something and that’s more than ANet is giving us!
More than anything though, I got my hopes up lol. Last weekend was my birthday and I got excited by the idea I might wake up to a Druid teaser on Monday, only to find that Elementalist, the class least in need of improvements or specializations, is getting announced.
I understand patience and all, but I kind of feel like Ranger deserves a whole month of blog posts detailing why half of the utilities and traits we have are awful, what design decisions led them to make them awful and the awful decision to design the pet mechanic the way it’s designed when literally every forum goer we’ve seen has a better idea, and what they are doing in the future to correct all of their terrible decisions and designs and how Druid is taking a step in the right direction, with then of course our reveal mixed in there.
I’ve also felt this way about the class since GW2 launched lol. It isn’t a new thing and I don’t feel I’ve ever hid it, I’ve just always made the best of it because I’ve been a ranger main since prophecies. But I would probably redesign the class from the ground up, given the opportunity. I miss my interrupt ranger, my stances, and my preparations, and I miss dancing in and out of the enemy back line harassing caster, shutting down skills, and focusing down targets when I need to, all while being harder to kill and versatile with condition removal and self healing so that monks generally didn’t need to waste heals on me.
GW2 for me took away everything that made ranger unique and left me with a generic bow and a pet stapled on, poorly implemented pet that had never been there, and I’ll always be bitter about it unless/until ANet reveals something to me similar or better.

7000 hrs? You realise that is 6+hrs per day for the life of the game, yeah?
Yes i do realise.
But I don’ t understand your comment. What does it bring to the discussion? Please explain
Again, you would take a thief/mesmer over ranger.. because there literally is very few people who put in the work to make a lb ranger viable (ranger lb needed big buffs and since it got it no one has put the time in on the class as they have on a thief or mesmer)..
My traits are on par with other classes.. My utilities, only util that you could gripe about is Signet of stone mainly because endure pain has a less cd.. the toughness alone from the passive signet makes up for the longer CD .. nothing to complain about.. My damage.. i put out more sustain damage then 90% of people.
There are certain times that a mesmer/thief will rekt me sure.. but thats ONLY because i dont have all my cds.. and they have theirs.. and even then the fight isnt a one shot on me.
Please, someone bring something other then D/D ele (hardest counter).. find me in game and prove me wrong, because i have yet to see otherwise.. Can even bring condi spammers, I’m up for it to prove you wrong.
I have a GvG tonight at 6pm PST, so anytime after thats done im open or this weekend. Not trying to sound like this is a L2p issue, but i extend challenges constantly and no one will prove me otherwise.. or when i get someone i get hit with the .. oh your just full cheese, anyone can do that. And these forums suggest otherwise.
but i extend challenges constantly and no one will prove me otherwise.. .
it’s not that no one wants to duel you, it’s just hard to take you seriously. build a name for yourself and maybe someone will prove you otherwise.

So if i add you and invite you to a 1v1, you will decline? Wasnt meant to be taken as i dont have people to duel, just no one has proven to me that LB ranger is as dead as people make it seem…

bit ironic , if he does not want to do videos how else can he prove it apart from a Friendly dual just go do it and have a laugh.

but you have to be somebody for me to duel you. good luck in your journey.
Why is there this “come at me bro” 1v1 challenge going on? That has no ability to highlight what the ranger is weak at (team utility) at all.
We lack (or have weaker than a different classes):
So what if ranger builds can 1v1 and deal damage, nobody that I’ve seen worth listening to is disputing that. But that doesn’t matter when you are looking to optimize a team comp and ranger can’t compete as well as other classes in any of those categories and doesn’t significantly deal more damage than those other classes either.
Dueling and the ability to duel doesn’t do ANYTHING to fix that. Congratulations, you can duel well on a ranger. Your team just died in a teamfight though because you couldn’t rotate there quick enough, rip boons off of bunker targets, lockdown high priority targets for kills, or improve your teams output in any meaningful way other than just doing damage, which is something that every class can do anyhow.
A good player is a good player, and on any class, a good player can push wins in solo queued unranked matches regardless of what they play. But premade vs premade? Rangers are not optimal class choices, and against any team worth their salt, a ranger is currently handicapping their team compared to what can be picked in its place.
Duels have no weight against that fact.

If the duel includes the fact who gets the point 1st, I’d bet you’d lose.
Also, make sure the duel goes from an even ground. So nothing like starting from 1500 range or so. That would be like asking for a duel against Trapper Ranger with a goal of decapping his point or killing a bunker guardian 1v1.
there isn’t a single power ranger in the game that can kill a well played condi bunker ranger 1v1. simple as that. which is why I cant take this kid seriously.

We lack (or have weaker than a different classes):
- instant lockdown
- AoE damage
- enemy boon ripping/manipulation
- ally boon sharing
- out of combat mobility
- team healing/cleansing

I just wanna add viable combo feilds to that list
