With lb #3 being introduced with stealth and the Remorseless trait being implemented, the door is wide open for possible skills that could involve stealth… Now I’m not saying we should become thieves but one skill I had in mind would work great with stealth and would seriously help power builds. What if Anet added 3 seconds of stealth the the active trait of Signet of the Hunt? This would work extremely well with longbow power signet builds when used with Remorseless.

Part of me would love this, because I feel it really suits Rangers aesthetically, plus it’s a huge combat advantage. However, it’d probably get us nerfed even harder.

That said, I love the idea of putting a short stealth on Signet of the Hunt. I would also appreciate a smoke field either via traps or pets so we can leap through for stealth.

That would be so OP. you could sit in a keep all day long. You can’t sweep for it either since they just sit there perma stealthed

Just make it remove stealth upon taking damage or add another 5 seconds on the cooldown. Thieves have had perma stealth since day 1 in some form or another and it hasn’t been game breaking as long as you don’t leave dead mesmers lying on the floor unattended.

The concept of stealth would tie in nicely with heavy hitting power rangers — making stealth their main form of defense (sorta similar, but not completely like a thief).

Ehhh. I want more Stealth.
I don’t know if I want it on Signet of the Hunt.

Part of why I kind of don’t like our Signets is that the whole active/passive system is really wasted as a meaningful combat choice.

I feel like I should be experiencing some kind of decision-making about when to sacrifice the passive to get the active. But I either straight-up don’t care about the passive and just use it like any other cooldown skill (Signet of Stone), the timing the of the active is so bloody obvious I don’t have to think about it (Signet of Renewal), or the active and passive have such different functions I’m only using it for one thing and don’t care about losing the other (Signet of the Wild, Signet of the Hunt).

Internal conflict is what makes things interesting in a game. And Runspeed vs. Stealth just doesn’t seem like the kind of thing that would cause any internal conflict. Between enemies? Use the Passive. Near enemies? Use the Active like any other cooldown skill. Blah.

It’s kind of just an extension of the same problem Signet of the Hunt already has; One function is so obviously about Travel, and the other is so obviously about Combat. Why would you ever sweat a choice that has no overlap?

A few sources of camouflage would be cool instead. Like on stalkers strike for an example.

I would like to see rangers get a few small aoe blinds more though it just feels like something they would do like throw dirt in the first game.

Yeah.. to be honest I think adding more stealth to the game isnt a good idea. The builds that need it the most are our berserker builds, and its already on the LB.

Adding more so that our already strong bunker specs could stealth too would really just be unnessesary.

Adding a smoke field so you could leap+blast finish it might be ok, because it requires so actually play to do.. but just adding a flat stealth to a skill people already use all the time doesnt sound right.

I agree with you it does suit rangers, however I think this game needs less stealth not more of it, the ranger signet still has a long cd though so I don’t think it would be out of line like thieves and mesmers are who can pretty much stealth at will during combat wich I am totally against.

Stealth itself is has a broken balance. would be much better, if stealth ends, if you got stunned/kicked/feared etc.
And for Rangers I think, stealth isn’t the way how to play them. On the other side it seems, even the developers don’t have any idea what a ranger should be.

We probably have enough stealth, but I wouldnt be adverse to a smoke field since they said they were looking at more combos for rangers. Seems that it would go nicely with fire trap or torch as a lingering effect.

What I think we really could use though is a more reliable stealth on LB#3. Either make it so it doesnt rely on a hit, or at least make it unblockable and fire-able while running so it doesnt require a frontal arc to hit.

I’d like a bit more stealth, but even more than that I’d like for them to get more traits that reward them for going in stealth. Remorseless is kind of eh right now. Guaranteed crit is decent, but it faces pretty stiff competition from the Signet trait. Especially since Rangers have very few attacks that really benefit from the single guaranteed crit.

Yeah, on one hand there is the issue that more stealth is going in a bad direction for a lot of players, but on the other hand one can argue that while stealth is there we might as well try and benefit from it. What about a spirit that gave % chance to stealth on hit? Too OP? Maybe Lightening Reflexes would be good with stealth: Evade back with a crack of lightning, gaining stealth and vigor instead of the odd damage it does. Or even Sharpening Stone, Stalker’s Strike or Serpent’s Strike I could see having a stealth aspect applied to them that could work well.

Good points all round though, was just throwing an idea out there!

I think I would be happy when the jaguar skill Stalk would also give the player some stealth. It would also make the use of pets more specific.
Currently I don’t see any reason why only the jaguar gets stealth. In PvP/WvW people already see that you are a hunter so a stealthed pet doesn’t really matter, and in PvE it doesn’t add alot too, maybe only if you want to hold your pet alive, but better you take a bear then….

But not on Hunter’s Shot, and with some kind of rule to stick on.
~ will end after 5 seconds if moving, or when taking dmg.

Designated marksman Hunters have no real stealth, bad chasings/damages, can’t use firearms, hows that?

Seems we should get stealth when standing still (like a camoflauge) which would be long lasting. Once we go into combat, it should break.

Our ability to get a bit of stealth when fleeing works well enough with Hunter’s Shot IF they would remove the requirement for hitting the target.

Yeah, there was actually a skill called “camouflage” that is in GW2 currently that gives you stealth until you move. That would be a very cool skill for a ranger to have in a skill slot. “Hide in Plain Site” actually uses the camouflage skill.

And how is this any different from Mesmers and the illusions + clones?

Mesmers get way more stealth and can spam clones to the nth degree.
Thiefs can stealth pretty much at will for long periods of time.

And for the ranger it would be “They would be too annoying to fight”

It is a great idea. One that I always thought should be a Ranger skill. In regards to being stealthed inside keeps/towers. I think there should be a guard(s) that see through stealth. I don’t like the idea of any stealth inside a structure when you don’t own it.

Not how it should work. Forget Anets current idiotic version of stealth.

Ranger stealth …

1. Take 5 seconds to enter stealth. Interrupts or being in combat won’t allow you to stealth (that includes pets)

2. When you leave stealth, it is on a 1 minute cooldown.

3. Any damage you or your pet does =stealth is cancelled. 1 minute reuse timer.

4. No movement in stealth. It breaks with a 1 minute cooldown.

Ranger stealth would be used for scouting in dangerous territory and initial first strike. Stealth could never be used again after that first strike until fight is over.

However, I wouldn’t mind for ANet to reinstate our Camouflage as an actual utility skill. Personally I think it would make for a much better active effect for our current Signet of the Hunt.

I think a smoke field is genius
