Q:

Rangers can use their f2 in their downed state. Is this kittening intended? No, I’m not raging. Just had to try 3 times do stomp a ranger because I got CC’ed so many times and wanted to clear some things. Expect a full on list with pros and cons if it’s intended.

If it’s not intended. Then I don’t know why this has never been brought up/ fixed by Arenanet.

Intended and every good ranger will make sure you’re aware of it … and be giggling :-p

… real men giggle.

It is fully intended yes, and one of the rare things that separates good rangers from bad.

The greatest freedom is the freedom not to get involved.

There’s this term they like to use in LoL – strategic diversity, altho in this case it’s tactical diversity. That’s what this feature brings, another way for the downed ranger and the person stomping them to interact.

The greatest freedom is the freedom not to get involved.

Pop some blind or stability or invulnerability or block and there you go, a dead ranger. If he doesn’t use wolf, then invisibility will work too.
If you have neither, try dps him to death.
You can even play smart, canceling stomp, dodging the fear then stomp again.

Of course it’s intended. The pet is even a part of our downstate skills.

There is even a trait that gives pets quickness when the Ranger is downed.

It’s intended and has been like this for ages. I’m surprised you only just now noticed it was possible.

We don’t need your list of pros and cons, though. If you’ve not been playing the game long enough to notice this feature until just now you probably aren’t experienced enough with the ranger to make an unbiased review. No offense intended.

The problem is when this skill bugs after you’ve killed the pet but then the ranger can still use lick wounds and the pet becomes invulnerable. That needs to get fixed.

You do realize the first effect of Lick Wounds is reviving the pet, right? The invulnerability is not permanent and only occurs if the pet is fully dead when revived. A living pet receives no invulnerability or healing. Countering this skill requires knowing how it works and how to manipulate the enemy’s pet in such a scenario.

When we did the ranger forum King of the Hill tourney, many duels ended after several downs. I don’t know if using your pets is a giant mystery to most or what, but real rangers will use them.
