Druid Astral Force Out-of-Combat Degeneration
I’ve got a simple question: if this out of combat degeneration sucks, why was it implemented in the first place? Looks to me it’s the same old story: ranger class has something nice; can’t have that; let’s kitten it up in the name of “balance”.
Would be nice if celestial avatar was always avalible but astral force increaced it’s potency to some degree instead.

I think the real question is why do they need metrics to tell them whether it should be reversed or not? It should be self evident to anyone who tries it themselves.
I usually scoff at the idea that no actual developer at Anet plays a Ranger but it has to be true at this point. Anyone who tried this hot mess of a spec would seriously think it’s even remotely fun or effective to play.
The most love the class has gotten so far in HoT was from the guys in charge of the universal change to minion AoE damage.
Whats the status with us being put into combat when we use ancestrals grace?

THERE IS ENOUGH MICROMANAGING DURING COMBAT. A VITAL ROLE SHOULD NOT PUT PLAYERS INTO A POSITION WHERE THEY ARE MICROMANAGING MECHANICS LIKE THESE ON TOP OF A TON OF OTHER STUFF…
NO, STAFF DOES NOT CUT IT FOR HEALING AT ALL.
Your intention was to build a team healer, but this spec will enter the meta as the self healing trapper bunker and players will not join serious stuff to be healz because…
1. This form is very temporary and cannot maintain a consistent level of effective healing.
2. After the first day the “build up force and spam stuff” gets old real quick.
3. Trying to heal on a timer while getting chewed up by mobs is NOT FUN. It’s not fun in pve, not fun in wvw, will not be fun in pvp or raids/fractals.
4. Yeah, lets put a timer on CA and make the response time on some of these skill slow, and throw in a long activation skill (#2) and a long to cast rooting skill (5) for good measure…
5. THIS SPEC AND THE HEAL NUMBERS ARE GOOD ON STATIONARY DUMMIES/AI, but that’s it. In combat situations it is NOT ok and it is NOT the same. Having to chase down moving targets with a silly reticle in hopes to do my job and heal them is not fun. Especially when I need to move too and am getting knocked all over the place while my timer is just ticking away…
6. This game does not support healing… Where are my health bars??? Why am I needing to chase players with a ground target heals while they are running around and dodging, and me needing to do the same… THIS IS WHY OTHER GAMES HAVE TANKS, SO A HEALER CAN DO ITS JOB WITH REASONBLE EFFICIENCY… Here it’s just mass chaos, red circles and having important roles behind terrible mechanics like the current CA form. I can look at every profession here and see the “learn the gimmicks to be gud” design. NO, it’s not about skill here, it’s about learning the wacky profession mechanics better than the other guy…
7. YOU DO NOT PUT MAIN AND IMPORTANT ROLES BEHIND ENERGY BUILD UP MECHANICS AND FORCE THEM TO FUNCTION WITH TIMERS TICKING. IT’S BAD DESIGN.
8. I had like 20+ characters in city of heroes and I’ve played heal, support, control, disruption, tank, melee and ranged dps… in pvp too… you guys could learn a few things from that game…
9. If you keep this silly timed role in place, then you are going to make it not fun to be a support/heal Druid.
10. Getting back to city of heroes… I really think you guys and gals need to look at how the developers of that game handled the nuts and bolts of “professions”, powers and combat mechanics… Those developers actually made “profession” and roles fun to play, and they worked hard to eliminate many balance issues and frustration mechanics. They made thing used friendly unlike here, but it still took skill and practice to get good… Feel free to watch and raid or pvp match on youtube and you’ll see how “professions”, powers and mechanics should be done in a fast paced game. Trust me when I say that city of heroes was ten times more fast paced because of travel powers and such, but gw2 is ten times more frustrating to play…
11. “Different” isn’t always good…

Mate, look at it. They probably cut and pasted the code from Berserker, which is why the form only has a 15s duration and degenerates OOC now, exactly the same as it does on Berserker.

Anet failed to deliver a properly working Druid mechanic/gameplay by hot launch. Now that HoT is out, the question is what is Anet going to do about it.
Since they are busy with HoT, its easy for both them and us (as the playerbase) to use that as an excuse not to properly address Druid issues at this moment. (I’m sour that it has come to this but the reality is that with only a finite amount of resources, Druid will probably take a backseat to other more pressing issues for the foreseeable future.)
I know Anet is not going to straight out and tell us that Druid will have to take a backseat for a while. They are going to tell us indirectly through their actions. Copying and pasting code/ideas from another class and sticking them on Druid is an example of a design team that wants to get rid of the Druid issues without actually getting dirty. (i.e., they are not going to put in the time to really provide a game mechanic that makes sense/fun to play but will instead just put band-aids on the situation as a quick fix to reduce player dissatisfaction.) If that is the message Anet is going to tell me about their future plans for Druid, then I’ll save myself future headaches and just switch to another profession.

Patch just went through taking away degen. Cheers.

In that case, they could at least make it charge up half as quickly as Berserker does. And give us skills that specifically fill large chunks of the bar like Berserker has.
The Druid feels MUCH better after this change. Sooo much smoother. I can actually use CAF in normal PvE now.
Bring back smokescales F2 ..!
So, I gave the Druid a try last night and unless I pop TU or use the staff I pretty much don’t get to use the Druid F5. Bummer because I wanted to use the line as damage support, but things are dead before it ever charges up…. Since it doesn’t degen it’s better because I can use it at the beginning, but that’s it. Things are dead before I can charge it again.
Just stopping degen does not seem like enough. It takes forever to charge up, then when you use it, it’s gone so quickly it was hardly worth the wait. One third of all your traits for a weapon that seems pretty lame and a mode which you hardly ever get to use.
Played in pvp without staff or glyphs and still got to use f5 often. Felt really good.
Hey all,
I’m looking into the combat degen resulting in too heavy a gating of Celestial Avatar in PvE situations; from what I saw over the weekend it seemed overly restrictive in open world battles. If this continues it then the degeneration when out of combat is likely to be removed.
CAN u PLZ in goods name relocate the tiger and vivren PLT PLZ PLZZZZZZZZZ
now pls balance lingering light, change duration and cooldown, its too strong right now

well, as long as they don’t make it something stupid like 10s ICD. which would make it useless. I’m thinking 5s.
just need to make it charge up faster (outside of staff) and last longer now, even if it means nerfing the strength of the healing a bit.
