Druid Changes Question
Sadly I doubt it.. but it could be something that anet will address three years from launch after everyone stops using the weapon outside of healing focused builds like how they took three years to add torment to necro scepter after years of being a horrible weapon.
As of now, if you don’t run a full support based healing build in pvp, staff will be nothing but a glowy mobility stick. This means that LB/GS would be overall more useful than using a staff in power builds and condi builds would prefer to take axe/sword/dagger/torch or your beloved shortbow since i don’t think staff would add enough on point pressure to be of use even on settlers builds that need both condi offhands and evade spam to function properly as 1v1 Heros, although maybe the staff could be a filler option in teamfights for them.

I’m honestly praying to Melandru that Staff gets a burn on AA. It just needs something. As is, its pretty bad, even with the excellent change to Ancestral Grace.

Sorry I don’t agree about staff 1 getting burn.
Staff 1 actually does pretty decent power damage. It has a damage modifier of 0.3 and pulses 3 times. That is basically a combined modifier of 0.9 of 1.5 seconds.
To put it into perspective. mesmser gs1, a very similar skill, has a combined modifier of 0.945 at 900+ range, 0.54 at less than 300 range. Channel time is also 1.5 seconds(mesmer can abuse stow though).
The damage really doesn’t look any worse on druid staff. You can also confirm that by looking at that initial druid introduction video at twitchcon. The high damage number confirms it(pretty sure they are using berserker amulet).

The only skill needs improve on staff is 4.
1 and 2 do pretty decent damage and healing, 3 and 5 are awesome utilities.
4 is trying to a bit too much while not really practical to use.
It should have at least 2 seconds immbo, a larger area of effect and a shorter cast time because the animation of this skill is so obvious and players should still have time to react even if the skill becomes strong.

Why are you comparing the damage of the staff auto to mesmer GS? The reason the GS is strong is due to its abilities’ insane damage and the utility it offers, you do not run around spamming the autoattack to kill people, it’s damage is laughable, and druid staff is actually a bit weaker, if your numbers are correct. The damage on staff is so laughable, no matter how much power you have, that you cripple yourself by using it over GS/LB. The staff is terrible for anything that isn’t a bunker build, or useless healer for pve if you want (when people figure out raids, staff will most likely not be needed for druid, maybe druid won’t be needed at all).
The staff is a pathetic weapon.

Ok, great. What if I don’t want to run cleric or zealots armor?
I agree with some cond on AA but not burn, it is just too strong, bleeding or poison would be better imo.

I did the math on it. If they add a 0.5s burn to each pulse of Solar Beam, you would be able to run Apothecary armor, it would do nearly the same damage as a Clerics set.
If they added the burn, you could choose to run Sinister, the Staff will still be usable with Sharpened Edges for a DPS set and would have the reduced healing to compensate.
It just makes a LOT more builds viable if there is a short burn on the AA. It’s balanced and win-win.
We already have more than enough Bleeding and Poison and Burning just fits Solar Beam perfectly, thematically.
The staff is suffering from a severe case of “shortbow syndrome,” though not unique to shortbow (hello 1h sword, my long forgotten frenemy).
Basically, Staff lacks damage on its 2-5 skills. The 2 skills healing doesn’t make up for it, and as with most other weapons, the 3-5 skills are utility, which may or may not need damage (seriously staff 4, what’s your purpose).
So hopefully, regarding 2 and 4, we at least see enhanced base functionality, if not more damage.

I like that staff is healing focused, but since this is GW2 and not another MMO, even a healing focused weapon needs to have some form of offensive capability, and our staff just feels extremely weak in terms of damage. Like i may as well not even be attacking so weak.
Personally i think we need to have condis on the 1 skill (probably on the third pulse), the 2 skill, and the 4 skill. There’s not enough damage on the weapon to begin with so they wouldn’t really need to subtract anything, and the damage staff brings isn’t any better than the healing guardian staff brings, and that still has a lot of damage potential just through the 1 and 4 skill alone.

You are so wrong. Mesmers spam GS1 a lot. It does decent damage at long distance and good at triggering on crit sigils. It’s already probably the second strongest long-range autoattack after ranger longbow. Mesmer’s GS is also a damage focused weapon. 4 damage skills and 1 utility skill.
Back to ranger’s staff. It is a utility-heavy weapon. 3 and 5 are among the best utility on any weapon set. 1 and 2 do decent power damage + some healing. I would say this is pretty good already. You can’t blame a weapon just because it is not damage-focused. Guardian’s staff is also damage-lacking. But it is still a very strong weapon due to its utility.
From design point of view, I think weapon skills are not meant to do too many different stuff at the same time. Do we really have a weapon autoattack that can do good power damage, good condie damage and also healing at the same time?

Currently is there any skill/trait that apply fractions of seconds of a condition? I know that the game can calculate it, but is there anything that apply like 1.5 poison, 0.5 burn?
EDIT: Yeah 0.5 burn would be ok

Sadly, it is power/support focused weapon. You don’t use it for burst damage or condie pressure. This is the same as, say, guardian asks why they can’t use staff on a zerker build.
I agree with some cond on AA but not burn, it is just too strong, bleeding or poison would be better imo.
Bleeding and poison don’t work thematically with a solar beam, but we are talking about anet here
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

I wouldn’t call staff 2 decent power damage ever. Pretty sure it’s a DPS loss to even use it, factoring in travel time (it’s slow) and interrupting the autoattack.
Still, at 2375 power, we’re talking about a cooldown skill that only peaks at 743 damage. That’s less than a lot of autoattacks in this game (including the weapons own 2 hit autoattack).
Regarding what I responded with earlier, either this damage needs increasing, the healing power scale for the skill needs to be upped to a minimum of .5, or the base heal on the skill needs to be doing more than 322 base.
The 3 and the 5 skills, you’re right, great skills. The 2 and 4 skills? They are in desperate need of tuning.

It definetly needs something, if the CA changes actually help other waepons be able to build up the energy needed then the only point of Staff would be skill 3. Its healing is meh, its damage is poor, skill 4 might as well not exist and using skill 5 will just cause people to shout at you for getting in the way of reflects.

No, you are wrong. I use Mesmer GS all the time. The Auto attack is terrible, one of the weakest in the game. Mesmers spam it because its an auto attack, they use the GS for the burst from skill 2,3,4 and shatters and the knockback from 5 if needed.
You have a warped veiw of damage in this game if you think Mesmer GS auto and Druid Staff 1 and 2 do decent damage.
From design point of view, I think weapon skills are not meant to do too many different stuff at the same time. Do we really have a weapon autoattack that can do good power damage, good condie damage and also healing at the same time?
We actually do have auto attacks that can do good power and condition damage. I’d rather dump the heal on staff auto, that is so tiny it might as well not be there, and get some burn on there.

No.1 Also Need tuning, It is underwhelming in all aspects besides healing.
The root is so hard to aim too.
The staff needs condis on it, damaging or not, hell even just vuln. Just ADD something to it.
Otherwise it will be solely used in other builds because of the mobility,
