Druid Healer for Raids?
Hopefully not, because healers are useless in this game, I don’t want druids to be only viable in raids and totally useless anywhere else.
I want that druid be at least good support, that way it becomes viable anywhere.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
They mentioned several times that raids will be about:
~ paying attention to your surroundings
~ keeping yourself alive
…
And others are redundant. If you are supposed to keep yourself alive – AoE healing will still probably be only second-rate.
Even though I tried a support Ranger various times. The healing it provides is not bad actually. And you don’t sacrifice much for it.
If you go into Nature Magic traitline, you even deal more damage (roughly 7% raw DPS boost and boons for your pet) and the last trait doesn’t really have anything helpful (Spirits are a laugh, Protective Ward procs after being hit… So healing up the party is not that bad).
And I kept my Fern Hound as a secondary pet (if my cat dies). That way, I have a nice 4K heal in AoE. And my healing spring already gives an emergency Water Field for blasts.
Well, I mean, the heal is noticeable. Not really needed, but noticeable.
It doesn’t seem likely. None of our weapon skills aside from one skill on offhand warhorn would be effective for a healing set, and we can’t rely entirely on staff to supply the healing. We also have very little heal based traits beyond providing regen.
Ranger would need more core healing options before adding an elite spec would open the door to a dedicated healing support build.
I could see a boon support druid though. Especially if there’s a trait like “Boons applied to the pet are shared with nearby allies”. We can share boons with our pet really well, and with Fortifying Bond in Nature Magic we’d be able to might stack our party through the pet while providing a ton of regen, swiftness, fury, and occasional protection and stability. Plus whatever boons our future aspects and glyphs provide.
I still think our pet should share our boons baseline.
It has been our anchor in all kinds of environments and situations.
It would be nice. If the ranger and pet are suppose to work as a close team it’d only make sense that we could share the boons we give each other without needing a specific line to do it.

Not only that, but food/utility buffs as well. If a guardian’s virtue of justice get’s the 40% condi duration buff from his rare veggie pizza, so too should my snow leopard.

True.
If the druids will be another heal/support specialisation, it will just be another useless specialisation for pve/raids/highlvl fractals.
Like all other ones except chronomancer right now.
They said, everyone can play whatever he/she wants. So the “raids” will be nothing new or refreshing.
Pretty much zero chance of that I reckon.

I believe they are sticking with the control/support/damage idea, and we all know healing had been the least attractive for having less impact, unless they mess around with healing power coefficients, which isn’t likely.
In all honesty, there is no point in expecting from the druid something that the ranger can’t do.
(worst case scenario would associate a the so called aspect on GM traits “a la Daredevil”. Worst case scenario because it would set up the aspect as something that is time gated and could replace the [F2] ability… the more I think of this the less i like it…)
Most likely there will be :
- 3 trait for self survivability (because that’s very ranger like) → aspect of the bear
- 3 damage oriented traits → aspect of the cat
- and i bet that the last 3 would be on CC ability → aspect of the dog/wolf
As for the utility, they feel pretty easy to guess :
- Heal : Glyph of rejuvenation : grant health and something to you and your pet
- utility :
At least 1-2 glyph that pop out a spirit that will be sold as something really good but will be a spirit skill 2.0… (It will probably move and survive the active skill associated)
At least 1 glyph that command your pet to do something (because that feel like “ranger”)
At least 1 glyph that set out a magical trap (obviously it does not work with trappers rune but, it doesn’t have any activation time… this is replaced by a cast time)
Also I can see them trolling us using glyph to transform our pet into a buffing/debuffing machine… Basically what spirit do but better and centered around the pet. (Not that I don’t think that it would be cool but it would really shatter the few hope I still have for spirit skills)
Lols. Would be #MadBantz if Anet DID implement a ton of new pet-based or pet-reliant gameplay while not fixing or improving pet AI at all.

Well, they fixed minion AI somewhat and the HoT mobs are apparently getting far better AI, since pets are tied to mob AI, hopefully they cut and paste some of that code for Ranger pets too…

From what I can tell minions simply had some kind of bug that severely reduced their reactions when you attacked a target. They seem to work about as well as a pet on aggressive mode now. Before they could be 10’ away from the target you are stabbing to death and do nothing.
As far as HoT goes, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more that they will be able to utilize different abilities based on what’s (insert space here because anet’s censoring is stupid) hitting them. Pathing and targeting etc will probably be left alone as that’s a bit more complicated to deal with.
I hope we get a skill that converts remaining Regeneration in instant heal. Rangers can provide a lot of regeneration, but is worthless when the fight ends or the player goes down with 50s of it.

I doubt it.
One of our things is spamming craploads of regen and it follows Anet’s balance hierarchy.

Actually, one reason Anet didn’t want to change pet AI is because pet (not minions, just pets) AI is THE SAME as mob AI. So if our pets got an AI overhaul the AI across the game would too, and they wanted to make sure whatever done was done right.
So if they’re changing the mob AI as much as they are saying (me and a friend have watched the presentation with the mob AI, it’s kittening huge changes). then we’ll probably also get some of that love to our pet.

the gw meta is support – control – damage… i doubt it will change for raids

I suppose it’s just the new NPCs, isn’kitten
I would love to have my pets improved, but that would mean nothing else but improving AI of every single mob in Tyria. And that’s one hell of work.

The thing is, healing is not really that important version of support. It’s the weakest.

it’s actually not too much work since the way it essentially works is that all the mobs of tyria inherit the code from the same place, and if they change that, it changes all of them.
It sounds like AI is being overhauled across the board anyway, so i wouldn’t be too surprised if our pets get some of those benefits.

If that’s the case, it would be lovely.
I hope my pet would be able to hit stuff that is on the move after such a long time.

That would require new animation blending or longer range on pet attacks. Better pathing or reactions to different kinds of player attacks/builds won’t do much to alleviate the pet whiffing attacks.

However, it will give the pet significantly higher uptime, and safer placement, IE they’ll stand outside of the AoE and hit their target, not in it
