Druid: New Mechanic Guesses?
Data mining suggests we’r getting aspects and glyphs, Which is kinda a combination of what you would like to c. The aspects are probably “small-scale” attunements. We have clues from datamining that there will be 3 of them, so probably not seasons, more likely animal spects(bird/wolf/ bear) or Zephyrite Aspects(Lightning, wind, sun- which is kinda close to your seasons idea).
Oh nice, do you have any links for the datamining info? or is it too early days yet?

It’s pretty interesting that the colors don’t seem to add up. There are 3 bright red ones, but not 5 for example and then there are some different shades of green and blue, but none complete a set of 5 and rarely a set of 3 or more. Also one glyph has as set of 4 icons and another has a set of 2 icons.
Another interesting thing is that elementalist Glyph icons don’t change color when switching attunements. So why should the Ranger?
Not to rain on this topic too much but thief’s elite got… Steal, they decided to glorify its dodge instead so… Yeah, there’s that… Then if we take a look at Guardian’s, necro’s, tempest, chronological, not much as changed mechanic wise, we could sum it as different skills, effects and such, they are still: virtues, shroud, shatter, etc.
Bottom line, please keep your expectations in check, otherwise I know that a wall of text worth of whining will soon follow…
Thanks for the links

those are only "place holder icons, taken from gw1 glyphs so dont dwell to much into the colors or the 4-2 icons, whats important is that we have another independence source that suggests some one is getting glyphs. Its an old data mine so most ppl thought its for eles, but now that only engis and ranger left most chances those place holders are for rangers. Also we its noticeable there are 6 sets of iconts like the 6 utilities every elite specialization is getting(heal – 4 utilities – elite)
Yep, which would suggest 3 aspects
btw, it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t get glyphs or aspects at all. Maybe we still get concecrations or mantras or something. Maybe they ran out of time and instead of coming up with 18 skills they would only have to come up with 6.

Helping you keep your expectations low I mean when all classes got a cool new heal out of the blue, we got Water Spirit.
I posted in another thread but it goes more here anyways. I’m thinking these “Aspects” are going to be available in the pet selection menu to swap between. Mechanics of F1-F4 might stay the same, Druid might obtain a F5 for aspect swapping. Really hope aspects aren’t tied to pet families, as that would be more limiting than it would be flexible.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Something like Udyr? Guess it makes sense seeing as they’ve also announced Wukong (Thief)
I’m speculating druid will work a little differently than whats been posted already. Aspect swap will be tied to pet swap ie the pet you currently have out matches your current aspect. Which also means we will have 3 pets to swap between. But also means only 3 pet families to choose from. 3 pet families kind of makes sense in a broad sense as well as it limits the number of skills anet has to balance around.
Aspect swapping will obviously change how glyphs work. If its a bit like ele attunements then we’ll probably get traits that give boons or other effects when changing aspect. We may lose our weapon swap in favor of only having a staff with vastly different skills depending on attunement. More likely is that we’ll keep our weapon swap but have some more subtle changes to weapon skills based on aspect. We may even see traits that will effect old weapon sets based on aspect. Something like when you apply x condition, y effect triggers.
In any case, whatever happens if Druid is lackluster in any way I’ll just be sticking with vanilla ranger.

Me too. It would need at least a 25% movement speed trait like the mesmers got.
Hello all,
I wonder if aspects are where we shift into forms like aspect of bear and we shift into a bear and our weapon skills become that of bear aspect with that weapon format so on, sort of like elementalist attunes to an element like say earth, and his weapons skills reflect that choice combined to the weapon he / she is using.
Calling it now, aspect swapping will work like attunements. There will be 3 or 4 of them, with one additional active skill that changes based on which aspect you’re in. Aspects will passively buff you and potentially allies, and/or may affect enemies in some way as well. The only variable is the pet. Does it get replaced by the aspect auras completely, are they tied to which aspect you’re in, and if so, are they default, or do they need to be actively beckoned to the field.
Regardless, any of these variations has high potential to be quality changes, done right.

It will be whichever one didn’t break when trying to code it.
Sounds like a nice idea though, to fill that group synergy. Going to need some serious power going into these auras that actually get people to stop a look at what we can offer.

We’ll see…. extremely critical on how they would make the pet play nice with it. Personally, I’d like the aspect, when selected, to absorb the pet for a certain of amount of time (FOREVER UNTIL YOU SWAP ASPECTS, PLS ANET) and gain better damage coefficients, etc.

Yeah, that is how I think it will be also. Looking at the one datamined trait, the swapping has some effect on targets so hopefully both foes and allies at once. So, aspect swapping seems to function like Elemental Attunement. Hopefully it has a foe effect as well as ally. Can’t call anything on the pet either, too many possibilities.

Mega lolz :’) I agree pls anet sir gib us da pet stow
Would be nice, and allie murdock, when she was taking on the Ranger improvements before she left the company (typical Ranger luck), got well behind the idea of gaining an aspect/boon when stowing a pet. But then again the devs have always been stubborn and all like “LEL gg we’re neva giving le perma pet stow deal with it”. So expectation shall remain low on that front. Whether or not they’ll let us have a semi-perma stow, i.e. being absorbed by an aspect for like 5 mins or some kitten as you suggest, remains to be seen.
