No, that was the very first thing i saw too, kinda looks like a mix between a panther and an oakheart, and if it IS what i think it is, that fits with the original picture of the Ranger, who had a panther.

So many traits (i.e. not just Beastmastery) have utility for pets. So many weapon skills have bonuses for pets. So many utility skills rely on pets.

There will be pets! You’re just setting yourself up for disappointment if you don’t like the pet mechanic and think it will change in HoT.

Ah, well I was simply stating that I personally saw no pet in the image was all. Somehow it got warped into ‘yay no pets!’
Though very curious as to what the mechanic change of the class will be!

I am trying to figure out the pose. I’m pretty sure we’re seeing the right arm go crosswise with just the right breast showing in profile (the left curvy part of the vest is actually on the back), with the left arm showing behind and to the left. Then the legs are doing an odd highly knock-kneed twist, and the head is really twisted in a neck-killing manner.

It’s full of dynamic motion and energy but I’m in pain just thinking about taking that pose.

I guess it shows off the staff and a new shoulder piece?

The green blob to the right does look like a solid head of a creature of some sort but the yellow thing seems to me to be a drifting mote of energy, not something in an eye socket.

Seem to be handling its staff like a melee weapon… Again a melee staff? On the trailer it looked more like a casting weapon…

could the pet be some sort of wyvern?

I don’t expect a full blown ranged pewpew weapon. Maybe some type of mid-range? Maybe we get guardian loot stick !

I don’t expect a full blown ranged pewpew weapon. Maybe some type of mid-range? Maybe we get guardian loot stick !

This is how i’ve been thinking our staff will end up, I highly doubt it’ll be a full melee, or full ranged weapon, probably something closer to our axe where it’s good at range, but has perks to going into melee range.

Pet swap will be removed and Rangers will instead cycle their solitary pet through season-related Aspects. Aspect swapping will work with all existing pet swap traits and will have huge benefits for the pet. If the pet isn’t an intangible spirit, then swapping Aspect will provide a huge heal for your pet, possibly even restoring it to full health.

If you “death shroud” one of your pets it is removed from play until you exit shroud.

LOL, I’d certainly hope so. There’s no classes left!

And kudos for the honey badger mention. Those little guys are awesome!

Personally, I’m going with Wyvern pets since there was a whole bunch of different colored Wyvern models datamined recently, and the “pet” in the background matches the head of one.

I see a Drake with Armor…

if you compare it to all other class/specialisation artworks:

everything on those have clearly been shown, scrapper had the gyros on it and even the old ranger one clearly shows a pet.

this one is different so i think the background is.. just a background or something entirely different than what people are thinking.

I think its an Oakheart/spirit model.

This is actually very similar to what i was thinking would happen too, and the attunements would alter your pets abilities to make them fit w/e theme.

From the Art, it kinda looks like the Staff is gonna be a Melee-Weapon, which would totally suck IMHO….

What if it is Melee but can provide better dps then the 1h sword without the control drawback?

Sweet looks like a petless ranger to me! Hopefully the new aspects allow you to stow your pet which provides a buff depending on the Aspect. Why because archer archtypes don’t need pets.

Time to buy a ton of alcohol to drink in either celebration or to forget an awful reveal, or make a drinking game and take a drink (not a shot, you might die) every time the devs look displeased to be talking about ranger, sigh, or have no idea what they are talking about in regards to Ranger (“most dangerous game looks really strong, it will definitely need toning down, hue hue hue”).

Agreed, everybody just calm down and wait for Wednesday since we at least know that Ranger wasn’t removed from the game LOL. Last prediction: Aspects will be seasonal and Druids will be walking Nature Rituals that pulse effects/environmental changes in a ~1200 range, which would very easily change the “pvp landscape”.

Don’t disappoint me, ANet. I’m looking forward to the proliferation of useless dead things at my disposal.
