Dungeon Build?
I’ve found you can run pretty much any build in dungeons (except maybe spirits, which is a shame because that’s what I wanted to use) and still be successful. I run 20/20/20/0/10 and use a longbow as one of my weapon sets, and yet most people here consider it trash. I think it could use some buffs too, but I still use it, just because I like it.
I guess if you’re looking for the most optimal group friendly ranger build for dungeon runs, I would say I trap based ranger. Throwing the fire and ice combo fields down all the time will help things.
Although, every ranger running dungeons should be using healing spring. That’s a given.
Improve in which way? Higher dps? More survivality?
It really depends, i’d forget about condition builds for dungeons because traps cooldown is too high and you won’t always be in a good position to hit your target therefor decreasing your damage a lot.
Traps are good, slow ones, it helps when kitting certain packs of mobs so having skirmishing with 20-30 points is not a bad idea. It also increases your crit rate and crit damage.
If you want more survivality forget about carrion unless you run full condition build and get a few pieces with power/dur/toughness.
When traited, a fire trap’s cooldown is 12 seconds. I’m not sure what your definition of a high cooldown is for a utility skill, but as far as ranger utilities are concerned, traps are on the lower end.
Fire trap is the one with the lowest cooldown…yes, and it still doesn’t make it any good dps wise compared to a power/crit build. It lasts 3 seconds, 12 seconds cooldown…there it goes 9 seconds of DPS waste for the most part as you won’t always be hitting from the sides or behind mobs in a dungeon so condition builds are not really optimal for that.
The reason i said their cooldown is “too high” is because you can’t spam traps and to be honest only fire trap makes “decent” damage. I’d prefer to run berseker set up and use slow traps to support the party instead, it makes it easier to “kite” certain packs of mobs or perma slow down champions, and for that you don’t need condition damage.
