I know it has been requested that rangers get the option to stow pets and get the 40% DPS increase that is deducted for having a pet, but since clearly A-Net is no where near perfecting the pet system and refuses to allow this. Here is another possible solution.

Each pet genus has a separate stat specialty, each pet has a special skill.
What if we are allowed to stow a pet in combat, receive a 20% damage increase, a bonus from their respective stats and from the pet’s special ability. Almost like the special ability we get from our 6th armor rune.

Examples-

Bear:
Family Bonus- Vit boost
Arctodus- Low chance tof Bleed on hit
Black bear- Low chance to weaken on hit
Brown bear- Condition removal ever 15s
Murellow- Very low chance to proc Poison Cloud on crit
Polar Bear- Low chance to chill on hit

Bird
Family Boost- Pre+Vit
Eagle- Chance to bleed on crit
Owl- Chance to chill on crit
Raven- Chance to blind on crit

Boar
Family Boost- Vit with a chance to knockdown on crit
Since all have the same ability, very low chance of a unique field generation on crit

Canines
Family Boost – Power+Toughness boost
Alpine Wolf- Low chance to chill on hit
Fern Hound- Low chance of gaining regen
Other canines- Chance of knockdown on crit

Devourer
Family Boost- Toughness+ Condition damage
Carrion- Very low chance of poison cloud on crit
Lakittenail- Low chance to bleed on crit
Whiptail- Low chance to poison on crit

I think I have made my suggestion clear.
A family bonus and a species bonus from each individual pet. This would not be overpowering since stowed pet can’t be changed in combat, making quickness on switch impossible and only one type of bonus per battle. Perhaps change a couple of our useless GM traits to boost the effectiveness of the stowed pets. One for stat bonus and a bonus for the chance of the special ability to proc.

Ranger combat would still be dynamic and unique

You claim your idea is different from the others where the end result is the same. Abandon any hope of stowing your pet and gaining benefits in return. It just won’t happen. It goes against everything that ANET had in mind for the ranger.

And while the pet is buggy, it’s not as bad as you people make it out to be. It needs some tweaking? Yes, yes it does. Does it need a complete rework? No.
This is just like Dota II. Whenever a team is losing, they blame the teammate with worst k/d ratio, so they can save face. The same applies to the pet.

“My pet is so bad! I’m not though, i’m pro.”

IMO, they need to make AOE hit the pet for less, separate skills from wvw and pve to do that. Add the ability to control which abilities you want your pet to use, “Guard” absolutely shouldn’t be an utility. Make a pet utility bar for shouts (1 utility, 2 if traited in beasmastery) F2 Abilities should be cast faster, remove pet as possible C&D target.

Improve pet AI when fighting thieves, prioritize F2 skill when triggered over anything else, fix the downed issue that the pet disregards everything you want him to do for 2 seconds.

That’s it, i think.

Edit: Nope, still got more:

Fix pet ai pathing, pets can move while channeling their auto attacks, birds can do what the old guard did “attack people in keeps, and in other terrain”. Lets be honest, that wouldn’t be OP at all because your pet would just be eaten by the enemy team as soon as he reached the top. But the fact that you could do it would be nice enough.

My first class after getting the game was a ranger, its the first class I’ve gotten to 80, hence played it a fair amount of time. Pets AI just hasn’t improved. Pets work fine for the BM rangers since they trait for it and such, but for the few that do not want to go BM, beyond the 15 in it for the quickness on switch, at times my pet is just a nuisance, it’s gotten to the stage where I only use devourers in dungeons. I prefer melee combat with a GS switching to SB when things get too heated and at times I’m torn between dodging or re positioning to continue my chain and paying attention to my near death pet.

Outside of dungeon play I have no issue with pets, love dogs for PvP, drakes underwater and birds for standard PvE. What I want is the option to not rely on pets for a huge chunk of our damage.

I wish pets were invulnerable . Always . Then you just tweak the traits associated with pet stats or health or whatever . A proper racial mechanic if you will

I do not agree with this. I know the pets are buggy but you can make it work together. I’m starting to love some of them lately and I do not want to fight without one at my side.
