Entangle sucks.
but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
dodge, evaid, block, stability, blink, stun break, aoe, melee dmg. everything break it. i never use it.
Just the WvW
R3200+
it barely phases good players
works well against rangers and MM necros (and soloing camps)
works well against bad players (which is surprisingly useful if you get ganked, because often half of them suck)
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
It works for a second on anyone who doesn’t see it coming… no one is actually caught in it for full duration though. It’s amazing against mobs who have no idea they can dodge it, and who do not bother to attack the vintes. Against players it’s sad how easy it is to avoid and escape. It really should be un-destroyable if not dodged, and being that it is an elite skill I would argue that it shouldn’t be escapable either. It’s certainly not on par with other elite skills for effectiveness.
Ehmry Bay – The Rally Bot Vortex [VOID]
I said this from the start. It can be used well, but it has absolutely no effect against, mesmers, thieves, elementalists, warriors, guardians, or rangers. The other professions have an ever slightly harder time getting out, meaning it may last about 3s.
what people dont understand about entangle (and MT) is that it only works when timed correctly. even a 1-sec aoe immobilize will prevent the clutch dodge roll to avoid the incoming Earth Shaker for example. so if your friends are right behind you, 1s is all you need. Entangle is however more effective when not used as an opener, but after the enemy has spent all endurance and blown defensive CD’s.
in addition, it should never be cast in the area where two groups clash. the aoe’s will nullify the roots instantly. instead, one need to push deep into rear of the enemy line, or flank from the side. you dont need to be in the middle of the enemy. it has a fairly large pbaoe range, so you can actually grab people from 600 range where it won’t be telegraphed as much.
all this being said, ANet needs to decide whether to make Entangle a utility or an elite. in its current form, it would work well as a utility with a 60s CD. as an elite on a 2-3min CD, it needs to do way more. for example, its target cap should be raised to 10, or the immobilize should be guaranteed for 2-3 seconds (no destructible roots).
sincerely,
Entangle User

But yes, it does need to be used right and can be quite useful when it is.

Best way to use Entangle, indeed.. Get to the rear of the enemy group, pop down Entangle, Lightning Reflex out of there, spam Barrage, get back in and stomp..

That’s if they don’t get out of it. Like that would happen….

surely a good method… but entangle is still easy to avoid/remove :<
another nice option would be to use hunter’s shot then cast entangle while invisible and then barrage.
for 1vs1 a really effective combo is entangle + moa’s daze in the face
Well if people would keep bug posts bumped maybe things would get fixed. I posted about a bug that makes entangle even less effective, I’ll bump it again.
All the lingering ranger bugs were converted to features by the devs. Saves valuable developement time.

i definitely try to make the most out of the profession when im not facerolling on my guard and necro =)

Entangle should apply the current effect every second for 10s, now THAT would be an elite skill, and it’d make any area where players just jump out of the roots into a minefield of “watch your step!!”
IE: make it so you cast entangle, if you succeed (not interrupted or blinded) a radius around you would be marked in vines and every second vines would constrict up to 5 targets in the radius (as entangle is now). Because right now entangle is useless against the average player.

I don’t PvP, but why waste the slot? I would rather have Rampage as One and use the Survival skill that muddies the ground, slowing people. Especially if I am rolling with axes and/or shortbow.

- reason NOT to go with RaO is if the enemy team are a bunch of boon stealers/destroyers, but those aren’t too common anymore now that the meta is condi. And even then I’d take spirit of nature over entangle unless I was traps.

The secret to using Entangle right, is condition stacking. A simply thing such as using Muddy Terrain, before you use Entangle, makes a world of difference.

This.

And while I agree (and utilize this to a horrendous level in a build I currently run), it can still be easily escaped from, regardless of other conditions because it doesn’t prevent skill usage (and let’s face it, that is how most people get out, be it blinks, evades, invulns, etc. It just doesn’t allow for them to cleanse out of it as easily).
For a 150s cd, entangle should do so much more than be a lackluster muddy terrain.
As much as I hate to admit it….yes, entangle does suck. I usually run QZ and Entangle after so it isn’t as telegraphed or dodgeable but even with QZ, entangle is too easy to escape from. We need an elite, that behaves more like an elite.
I’d like it if we have the Entangle vines as an armor that immobilizes and bleeds our targets as we are struck either by physical projectile or melee (kind of like retaliation). The vines will take the damage for us till it is destroyed or duration runs out. On the flip side have entangle do nothing but add toughness if the enemy never strikes us. This is a true nature Elite skill and oh the fun i would have with this
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
The second they buff entangle to be harder to escape from, will be the day every profession complains about it all at once. The only thing I can see Anet doing is reducing the CD by 30 to 45 seconds or increasing the Immobilize by a second and fixing current bugs.

Agreed. Timing is everything with this skill. You have to wait until after your opponent has rolled. However I would also like to see a longer immobilize and shorter CD.

Just get rid of Sharpening Stone and make Entangle an utility.
Entangle: Entangle your foe. They are immobilized until the vines are destroyed.
Survival.
Cool Down: 50 sec
Damage: 60
Bleeding 5 stacks: 6 sec
Immobilize: 1 sec
Duration: 10 sec
Number Of Targets: 3
Radius: 600
The bleeding is instantly applied upon creation and DOES NOT pulse for the duration of the skill.
The immobilize is instantly applied upon creation and DOES pulse for the duration of skill.
As far as the new Elite utility goes, just make some sort of super signet that doesn’t lose its passive when activated. Or a super trap that would disable the F abilities of other classes for a specific duration or disable the use of other elites/remove elite effects already on a foe, as well as doing some sort of other team support effect such as boon removal, condition removal, damage, apply random conditions…etc.
These are ideas I quickly thought of reading this post so let me know if this will solve the issue.
Thank You

Don’t agree with the new elite ideas although I would like an elite Signet (maybe make it so passive cuts all damage done to pet by a flat % and make the active something totally boss). But I’d use entangle a lot more if it were as you described, as it is now it’s lack luster.
