Out of the 8 current classes 5 have teleports: Mesmer, Thief, Elementalist, Guardian, Necro. Revenant will also have teleports which makes it 6 out of 9.

Fine. If their design decisions are so very important to them then they should come up with something equally usefull. Meanwhile 85s cd on Search and Rescue …

If it can’t be a teleport then I hope atleast druid will get some useful pet control. Or like Eura said a “pet swap” wouldn’t be a typical teleport and they could explain it with some spirit link animation. Like channel druid staff for 3 second (similiar to guardian staff animation) and swap position with pet. You could combo that with the current guard functionality for pretty much the effect we discussed above.

ANYTHING like that please.

I was always bothered with the fact that Guardians have a instant teleport. Feels wrong, doesn’t go with the Guardian description or lore.

The only build ranger ever had that was useful in team fights was the spirit build, which I am sad to say no longer exists.

The issue is and always has been a 3v3 or bigger fight. 1v1 or 2v2 the ranger does quite ok. Team fights, we do nothing. And we cannot sustain with a glass build in a team fight either. Mesmer and Thief can because they can stealth and just TP the hell out of Dodge. Ele bunks, buffs, damages all in a single build. So with 2 Celes and Thief and Mesmer all you need is a fifth. Probably a warrior or a necromancer. Used to be Engi.

Oh one more thing, we have a bad burst and we have no way to strip boons. So by definition we are a bad spike class. Guess who has good boon strip options and is a spike class?

Just an update for Eurantien; I saw your other thread about Healing Spring and I’ve just been staying away from it because it’s so harmful for pet survivability.

I ended up making my mainstay build 0/0/6/6/6 even post BW fix with LB/GS. It could probably be run with conditions but I mean…. why lol. Everything melts so fast and our condi output isn’t exactly the highest out there right now that I’ve just had to stick to power.

As you and I mentioned at some point, may as well just run Mesmer at that point if we’re looking to build competitive team compositions, but I don’t think that Ranger is weak at all right now; we just got the short end of the power creep stick.

I’ve found myself not getting hardcountered the way I felt by common threats (Thief, Guard) before the specialization patch, so I mean, if we evaluate our own position, we’ll either be nice and situated as the nerfbat makes its rounds, or we’ll be buffed up to match the rest of the games power creep.

But, I guess until then, we keep playing different builds in an attempt to improve/remain in practice. From what I can tell, the competitive community is suffering the most from the patch right now after all of the changes, and I’d say it’s pretty universal that nobody wants mesmers or burning to stay the way they are right now.

Thanks jcbroe for being a voice of reason. You are correct. Ranger isn’t really that much worse off without healing spring. Of course we can always run something like you have posted or even just slot SoR back into our bars for that condi clear. Those builds will still be viable. I am just bitter because the way taunt was working… and the way healing spring was working I felt the build (the one posted in this thread) was actually very strong. Sure, it wasn’t a guaranteed “meta” build but for me it did feel stronger than anything I had run before (since BM anyway). Now, I can’t really justify 0/6/0/6/6 the way this past update has changed it. Everything else from there just feels weaker imo, which is incredibly frustrating given that 0/6/0/6/6 was already weaker than what is out there.

Still hoping zerker staff druid can lead us out of these dark times.

I definitely felt alot weaker with the BW nerf yesterday. It just doesn’t feel like a Grandmaster trait to be feared now anymore. BW could always be replaced by Zephyr’s Speed I guess. I’m debating on taking MM over BM line now. Oh well, was great while it lasted.

Just wish they would show the druid specialization already, can’t wait to see what zerker staff druid would be like.

I did this, it still feels lack luster imo. Mainly because the auto attack on longbow just doesn’t hit as hard anymore. So moment of clarity → lb autos are just weak.

On a sidenote. Do you guys really think burning is too strong? I can only speak for ranger and engineer and I think it is perfectly fine for both. Still no match for the direct dps that classes with way more mobility can put out.

I don’t think burning is an issue once everything has settled. It is just the burst of condi builds.

For certain classes, like burn guard… or ele ring of fire. By playing GW2 (and them not) you can effectively kill yourself by getting hit with large stacks of burn quickly (3-6)… unlike ranger and engi that can’t stack burning above 2 very efficiently.

Yeah, I really hope that Staff will be power based and/or control based, and my biggest hope is for some sort of new mobility too.

I think that combined with a not-useless new utility family, ANet will have given the class just the right amount of the things it needs to succeed.

I really dislike how it feels as if pets just keep getting nerfed. They have no ability to condi clear and walk in some pretty wacky paths. It is SO EASY to just throw a cripple at it, or a chill, jump down a ledge, or just kite the kitten thing. That’s counterplay… so is stability… how does one justify the FULL BW nerf? How does one even justify the nerf years ago with pets doing “too much damage” when you could still walk away from them (even on node) in this manner?

I hope Druid brings the ability to merge into the pet from a distance. Add some green/blueish glow, stat boost the pet with our own stats (percentage of it) and let us control the 3 pet abilities. F2 becomes ability #4 and #5 is leave the pet but merging should be low duration anyway since ranger becomes not targetable. Also should propaly take some of the dmg the pet took when leaving it.

I’ve seen players put pets on guard and just have them tank conditions for them. I’ve also seen players use snow owl and get 3-4k crits off with it. Personally for me, once I start autoattacking with my sword and getting them in the cripple chain and I pop quickening zephyr me and my owl do work. I agree in general pets are weak and spend most of their time chasing enemies they will never hit.

That would be an interesting idea… but instead I think it would be more reasonable if the druid was able to control all the pet skills (which is 2 more than what we have now). If not that then at least one more (skill “4” ie, moa heal, canine kd, spider immob, drake tail swipe) and then ALSO if we could “merge” with the pet so the pet became part of the ranger… ranger got the glow… but pets stats were to buff ranger stats so the ranger… for a few seconds or something could be doing as much damage as any other classes due to “normalized” base damage when the merged.

Mesmers Chronomancer is getting Superspeed clones on shatter, which is one of long time mesmer players complaints, and I equate it to being similar to the issue we have with our pets movement.

The problem is that we can’t “shatter” our pets, so giving them permanent superspeed isn’t going to be a thing ever.

I really think that ANet needed to bring back an iteration of an old GW1 skill (Strike as One) that shadowstepped the pet to the target.

I also keep hearing that ANet hired an AI expert to come consult them…. but I haven’t seen any confirmation of that and I feel like every time I hear it, somebody is just dangling the carrot, so to speak.

I think if they buffed to beastmastery traitline to have more meaningful traits pets wouldn;t be so bad. They limit alot of the good skills to the f2. Why not your pets attacks now inflict 3s of cripple with like a 5 sec icd. Or whenever a pet dies it is instantly reborn with full health and reset skills 90s icd.

I havent tested it in a controlled situation but im pretty sure i taunted an engi out of block.

it was completely broken before in a way that was breaking play. it could taunt out of invulns which was pretty crazy. it had to be fixed but its still one of the best traits the ranger has and a lot better than the other choices. i think the real nerf here was for zephyrs speed

I don’t understand how you can bare to even listen to….. that. He’s like the Tmartn of GW2, but with unnecessarily long videos filled with speculation.

As for what he was mentioning, unless I can’t read, there was a dev post that has since been removed where, in a bullet pointed post, they said they were tracking balance and conditions in particular, and would be working every week up until HoT to make changes as needed before the expansion launches.

The fact that I can’t find that post anymore doesn’t really bode well for the items mentioned, including the tentative schedule of how often balance would occur.

I was always bothered with the fact that Guardians have a instant teleport. Feels wrong, doesn’t go with the Guardian description or lore.

It also feels wrong that I’m almost insta-gibbed by a thief or Mesmer while wearing full heavy armor. Or better yet that a tiny piece of metal, focus, blocks better than a large piece of wood/steel thingy we call a shield.

On a serious note, don’t be bothered. We do have a few but they are over rated. Honestly, I would put them up on the table for the taking if they would yield us a few other things. Keep in mind though that mobility is one of the Guardians weaknesses even though we have these so called Teleport tools – other classes can reset or disengage better than us. To include my ranger.

We need improvements to GS damage and ability to land hits.

I’m not trying to be dramatic, as I did say I was swapping main professions after three years after the latest balance patch, and in reality all I did was cut my playtime down to about 5 minutes per day.

If druid doesn’t put ranger in the competitive mix I’m done. I’ve not bought HoT and as somone with like 5k hours I should be a lockin. I’m out. Peace. Drop the mic’. etc.

I did not know that, If I ever used striders in a lb/gs build it was a mistake. It should have been spotter. I am taking WS now over NM because I need the condi clear since I can’t take healing spring since the “fix”. It’s nice also because shared anguish is always a good pick up (especially with no-tell mesmer stuns). That is the same reason why I picked RaO back up… because no-tell mesmer stuns. Thieves are a little bit harder to deal with without evasive purity and without healing spring (since it was cleansing panic strike really fast)… but I think the extra survivability against mesmers mostly with Shared anguish and RaO is welcome.
