What about axe and warhorn?
What about axe and warhorn?
Those obviously were not allowed choices and must be omitted from the discussion. Thank you for understanding.

So why do we choose to ignore it?
I love my torch, with offhand training, bonfire’s radius becomes much bigger (about as big as an untraited flame trap), and the 6 second burn on #4 is nothing to scoff at either.
Bonfire also acts as an 8 second fire field, allowing your teammates to use it for a great boost to their damage output either via blast finishers for might, or projectile/whirls for more burning.
Warhorn, but I play WvW so my situation is a bit unique.
If I had to choose either the torch or the dagger, I’d have to go with the torch. You get more utility and damage out of it than what is provided by the dagger.
depend… With torch you get a combo field (hey more damage), with dagger you get an extra evade.
all very much situational. If you tend to stick around a whole bunch of people torch provides more utility. if you tend to be a soloist then dagger.
I’d vote dagger, but then i pvp a lot. Cripple and poison is too good to pass up, the extra evade is a bonus. Torch would just be burning, and more burning, other then dropping bonfire to destealth thieves it gives no survivability.
Guess in PVE torch is a much higher damage choice. And it can light up dark places.
Cripple doesn’t help all that much for survivability when half the capture points are the size of a phonebooth.
I prefer warhorn in wvw for the swiftness. It has nothing to with the fact that I pretend to be a Lord of Gondor in real life everytime I blow into it.
Axe (primary offhand) + warhorn (for self&pet buff), because use BM build in PvE)

Warhorn! I’m swiftness-buff-addicted while running through Orr and other maps. I like torch too for my condition build…
I played with dagger only to unlock its skills… now it’s two months it’s sleeping in my inventory!

Torch. Bonfire > All
Good in noob PvP because they don’t expect it.
Torch. Bonfire > All.

I’m torn between torch and dagger for offhands(although I seem to use warhorn alot just for swiftness, even though I hate it).
I really like the burning and fire aoe from torch, but I think overall I like the dagger better for the extra evade + snare-bleed.
I wish they would synergize sword/dagger to where they didn’t both use poison though. Maybe make the dagger stab do bleed instead of poison, and turn the dagger throw into a “flaming dagger” or something. Throwing daggers-on-fire would be pretty fun.
If you run sword, torch is viable only because of the fire field to leap threw.
Otherwise it is just subpar to dagger in pretty much every way.

Oh noes a static 4~ft fire aoe..
Seriously though, if the radius wasn’t so laughably small it would be a good skill… but it isn’t…

Bonfire’s AoE doubles in size with offhand training.

O.o
That’s interesting.
It would have been lovely if the tooltip actually said that.
It’s great in PvE where mobs dumbly stand in it and can be useful against others in PvP if combined with the root.
It’s also a very quick way out of you being rooted.
My favorites sets are Axe/Warhorn and Sword/Torch. I usually start with Axe/Warhorn and some ranged traps. Then swap to Sword/Torch to cleanup. I usually burn them with one of the Torch skills not long after flame trap is done, so the mob is on fire constantly. Traits I like include Offhand Training and Trapper’s Expertise.
torch has always been a fun one for me no matter what class. There is nothing better then setting an NPC or player on fire and listening to their characters scream in horror.
Is a must IMO if you want to run a condition build.
that said, my other ranger who is a BM uses horn when its not busy flailing away with its GS.
Warhorn all the way. Swiftness is great for movement and Fury is the best boon in the game.
ANET should just let Rangers use their fists. It would do the same amount of damage.
