Feb. 26 stealth nerf?
I played a lot with my jaguar recently (BM build properly specced) I saw hits from my jaguar during PvE play go from 2k ~ 5k as expected, however I did not take the time to verify damage in WvW against level 80 bunker/glass cannons, which is where the real results matter. I did make sure my jaguar was behind the enemy (although this might not matter) and in front just to see different attack spikes. I did not really feel a difference from pre-patch / post-patch but that could just be me.

I figured it out.
First I dug through my notes to see if I recorded any damage numbers, and yes I did record some for the lynx for the specific skills. I reran tests and they are all about the same as before except critical damage on Maul.
With the pet’s prowess trait (30% crit dam), criticals should hit for 180% of a regular attack. Here are the averages for a bunch of crit vs. non-crit damage figures I got.
Bite: 1320.9 (n=7)
Bite, crit: 2361.4 (n=15)
ratio: 1.79, as expectedMaul has two attacks in rapid succession, the second being roughly twice the damage of the first.
Maul 1: 923.7 (n=7)
Maul 1, crit: 1156.1 (n=9)
ratio: 1.25Maul 2: 2002.2 (n=12)
Maul 2, crit: 2171.5 (n=21)
ratio: 1.08So the criticals on Maul are not hitting for the correct amount. Maul only fires once every 20 seconds, so it wasn’t showing up in the kill time tests because it only represented the loss of about 1000-2000 damage (or none if Maul didn’t crit). Basically 0-2 attacks. But you folks with an eye for big damage numbers spotted it because Maul used to post the biggest damage crits.
I didn’t test birds, but their big damage skill is also a double attack like Maul (actually all of the birds’ attacks are double attacks). So I wonder if it’s double attacks in general which are bugged.
I went ahead and submitted a bug report in-game.
This is actually great, atleast we know now that someone is atleast working on the ranger. Now only if he knew what he was doing…
And this is why Anet does not have a combat log to text file function in this game like every other MMO ever made. It keep people guessing and harder for us to show bugs therefore they don’t have to worry about people seeing more bugs.

pet damage is not even in the combat log…

Yup and that is another way they hide the numbers so people can’t call them out on changes. Less informed customer is the less they will notice bugs/changes. Then less staff you have to pay to fix items.
I don’t think this is a scaling with BM issue. I’m a bunker/BM. I rely mostly on my pet for damage. I use only felines.
My spike damage has gone down. Something was changed. I don’t care about kill time or anything like that. I am looking at my burst damage and it is not the same.
I have no idea what’s causing it but something is different. I’m not perceiving something that’s not there. My burst damage has gone down, which is sad because as BM/Bunker I need every last piece of it.

Any new info on this? Further testing, or word from Anet (I know, I know)?
This is really important. Please Anet, what’s the deal? What is the cause of this reported damage reduction? Was it by design? If it wasn’t intentional, when will it be fixed?
No, there was no change. How do I know? Well, I’ve mastered ranger. In fact, I know exactly why you think this.
The only way to get 6k hits from jaguar without tons of might is masters bond. I can almost guarantee you had Master’s Bond traited before testing and then, post patch, coincidentally turned it off and thought it was the patch that did it.
Is that right?

What an increadibly arrogant post, it’s not just people talking 6k pvp crits feeling this way, I see it on the same boring karka basterds I farm nearly every day the big crits aren’t there anymore plain and simple.

When you put 1300 hours into PvE, sPvp, and WvW on ranger—when you have memorized all of the traitlines, have a set of gear from every dungeon, and have tried every build under the sun for ranger—you can be arrogant too.
I have spreadsheets and hard data that shows this too, by the way, if you don’t care about how much I play this game.

Pardon me for not putting any value into being arrogant, I think I’ll pass on it.
Someone has seen a diffrence in the crit damage of maul so it would then mean only 1 attack and no serious diffrence in dps but it would explain perfectly why these biggest crits have suddently gone missing for alot of people, have you looked at your master ranger spreadsheets for maul and compared? cause I think he might be onto something and I was thinking it something along those lines aswell.
No word yet, Manekk. I’m actually surprised that more in the ranger community haven’t sounded off on this yet.
My jaguar and lynx are not hitting as hard as normal. I don’t use Master’s Bond. I’m not talking about 6k hits. My initial burst damage for my felines is lower than it was.
I don’t have time to run test about this because of work and family duties. However, I do know that my feline has less burst damage. It would make sense if something changed with Maul.

I don’t use master’s bond in my tests in the Mists, since the growing stack as I killed golems would defeat the whole purpose of testing.
Prior to the patch, Maul’s second attack would usually crit for 4k+ in testing. Stack on other skills like sic’em and the active from signet of the wild, and 5k is easy, 6k probable, and 7k might even be possible. firebreathz’s video has his cat doing a 6280 crit on the second maul attack.

After the patch, the highest I’ve seen it crit for in testing (i.e. no buffs except the + 30% crit damage trait) was a bit more than 2700.
Edit: Furthermore, what I read on the forums says master’s bond gives the pet +6 stats per stack, or +150 total. At level 80 a cat has 1374 power, so master’s bond would only increase max crit damage by 11%. It’s nowhere near enough to account from a drop in crit damage from 4k to 2.7k. Never mind 6k to sub-3k.
