Please balance pets. They are all useless except for a select few.

I want more viable choices.

I have big problems with pets.

1) Poor pathing. What? 6" ledge? Better run half mile around it.

2) Dumb AI. This is just a general complaint that it is not smarter in terms of: 1/2 the time doesn’t properly position itself against foe and it can’t dodge.

3) Moving targets. I can’t rely on the AI to get a moving target like I can.

4) No perma-stow.

5) Not enough control. I mean. Really. Active/Passive should’ve had a keybind since the beta. Just insulting to the Ranger player base when John Sharp said we don’t have more control because it’d scare the noobs away from the class… uh, Engie/Ele, Mr. Sharp? Yeah, thought so.

Sad also that John Sharp said that we can’t have better pets because two Bearbows would just “rip the face off” of everything in game.

Because birds and cats are awesome and hit hard as hell (when they aren’t screwed over by pathing, dumb ai, etc.)

Right!? I mean why should rangers just automatically have full access to their class mechanic? It’s not like we are the only class that has to do a scavenger hunt to have full access to our skills. Oh wait…..

yes, I have “put some effort” into it, that is why I made a comment that ANet seem to have ‘deleted’ them … you get NO prompts in game, and, despite there being a few good Mr Google outside sources, the place where one used to be able to get pets have none!

I am hoping, now I have reached lvl 30, that they become available again … or do I have to be lvl 80?

Not sure what issue you are having. Made a new Ranger recently, pulled up pet locations on wiki, and went down the list taming them all. Too easy really.

To send us for an scavenger hunt and be rewarding shouldn’t be so limited ranged of pets skins to choose from. I mean pet skins because most of the pets are actually the same with same animations, they difference just when they are different families.
Anet could have given us a lot of more pets to choose from it’s not like they could make an actual difference anyway. Also because of the poor mechanics they have shouldn’t take too much to add new pets to the pool.

You forgot Moa, Boar, bear, Alpine Wolf, Fern Hound, Hyena, Devourer.

Was part of the NPE patch they removed many of the pets out of the starting areas. Basically for PvE/WvW if just means they want rangers to explore more, wound be nice if the normal wolf had a few additional areas of existance though. But acquisition of pets isn’t really even remotely a concern as PvP give access to all the pets.

As for the other issue of the pet as I have been saying since the beta’s they are in a bad place from a design point:

1) They (seem to me) to have been designed for a older stand and cast style game
2) The utility F2 have unwield long cast/animation time for no good reason at all (probably adds to the feeling of #1)
3) The perception the player base has for the pets will always be a limiting factor for their continued designer. If the pet is to perform as well as it is to be expected then that can lead to a labeling of easy button or no skill* (in spvp where most of the developers concerns seem to be).
4) They are afraid to increase the skill floor of the Ranger to allow for more control.
5) The effort to effect of proper pet use is not where it needs to be.

*We are lucky that there are a number of decent thieves in existence or their collective whining would have destroyed channel skills and pet just as the warrior’s got them changes.

This. Birds take to long to hit where i would expect them to be the fastest, they cast damage way to long and there for easy to dodge. Devauvers aim like they are blind. Cats are kind of ok but still stupid. Rest are just no worth mantion, drakes to slow, bears worth only of HP nnothing more. Rest are just junk.
