Fixing the fire wyvern
It doesn’t need fixing. Drakes need fixing. Not only their AI, but Salamander, Frost, and Reef Drake F2s. Those cones can be side-stepped so easily and are better off converted into bouncing bolts like the River and Marsh Drake F2s.
Salamander and Frost Drake being further left behind since their durations are a 1s base, balanced when Expertise Training used to give +50% condition duration to pets (current +33%).
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Yes the fire wyvern does need fixing, along with the drakes and the devourers and the spiders as well. But the wyvern was a new pet and was hardly used by anyone in a viable sense, and its name is “Fire Wyvern” and it literally does not apply any burning at all.

Eh, I don’t think the cones need to be changed into bouncing bolts. They’re not the most PvP-oriented pets out there, but not everything has to be, and against PvE enemies there are times when the cone is more useful.
Maybe it could stand to be more responsive, though.
It probably is fair to say that the fire wyvern probably has the F2 that it does because drakes already have the cone breath weapon role.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
As for drakes, if their cones were a bit wider and if they rotated to aim while charging, that would go a looong way to making them better all around. It can be frustrating when even mobs walk out of the cone or the drake makes a weird turn and faces away because of pathing issues.
The fire wyvern.. I want to keep it’s F2 the way it is animations wise. What it could use is the fire field forming sooner, and maybe some decent damage when someone gets caught in the fire stream. Right now using it feels pretty underwhelming, though I acknowledge it can’t be too strong because of how good the evade portion of the attack is.
Yeah, the weird turns with pathing issues are frustrating. I’ve seen the chain-bolts drakes do it too, but at least with those you can more easily use the F2 at range.
On the fire formation thing – yeah, I would think that it should probably be more of an expanding field (similar to Nightfall) rather than not appearing until the end. Mind you, the wyvern pet skills are particularly disappointing when compared to what the NPC wyverns of similar ages do…

Indeed. The range on the bolt attack makes it a lot easier to hit with, but even they can struggle. If the drakes could just turn as they charged the attack it would alleviate a lot of their current problems. At most you’d need to blow an immobilize or stun on the enemy right as the stream activates and succeed in forcing the enemy to eat the damage. As is there aren’t any reliable control effects that can keep someone rooted for the entire charge up and stream, unless your opponent just chooses not to cleanse your roots.
An expanding field would be great. That way you don’t have that… Disappointed feeling as your wyvern flies into the air and rains fire on your enemy and nothing happens for the first couple seconds. I love the animation, I just wish it was more impactful in terms of actual gameplay.
