Q:
Roll Revenant?
Should I?
Hey guys, so I’ve been playing Ranger as my main since the launch day (beta even). I’ve travelled a long journey as a Ranger in Fractals, PvP, WvW, PvE, even eventually crafted my own legendary weapon (not bought! other than precursor).
Since the latest HoT did not do much to the Ranger class, and my only other lvl 80 main is a Warrior (which I heard is nerfed very badly), should I abandon ship for Revenant?
Yet to purchase HoT.

Tbh, once you move to any profession it is very hard to go back to ranger reason being is that anything ranger is even remotely decent at gets over nerfed soon after and ranger traits/skills dont really complement each other at all.
When you move to another profession and see how much “better” it is, going back to ranger just feels horrible even just looking at normal AA attacks with the exception of the LB everything is horrible for ranger and you dont see it until you experience other classes.

rev is a very locked profession.
ranger is probably the most versatile profession in the game.
I recently did the switch myself, altho I do miss my ranger a lot. Specially thinking of all the time I spent on him. World completion. The damage output is better on the rev, but I am considering maybe going back again. I just like the ranger. Range Harald dps is very good tho!
s/a + hammer on rev plays extremely similar to a LB + s/a ranger. You can bounce back and forth and enjoy both professions.
I don’t see any reason to abandon your ranger though. Rangers are far more versatile, and if you enjoy it, I don’t know why you’d stop.

Fluffball is correct. Give it a shot, see if you enjoy it. You lose nothing if you decide that you still prefer Ranger in the end, and it will be a nice change of pace.
Rev is actually very versatile in the ‘role’ picks but you have to lock into certain niches before you enter combat. So while you have a few extra utility skills (although you could argue Druid can match it) you aren’t as fluid as responding to things – but you may just have the answer with planning, though.
I find both classes very enjoyable, so I play both. If you want to provide healing, Druid is definitely in a better spot than Ventari tho.
Why not have both? That’s what I’m doing. Having fun switching back and forth between the two.
Rev benefits from having all the latest design ideas/animations and since its a new profession does not carry any baggage with it (i.e., it was built on a clean slate with today’s game iteration/meta in mind.) Its still unfinished though (e.g. placeholder water skills) and the class could use another few passes to smooth out the rough edges.
Rev feels like a mixture of Thief (e.g., energy mechanics, high damage, mobility, evades/active defenses), Warrior (good hp, heavy armor) and Necro (looks and lore-wise). If this appeals to you then I’d suggest giving it a try.
It feels very much like a second generation profession rather than being on the same tier as the other professions I’ve played (Ranger/Mesmer). To illustratte, when you cast Swiftness on Rev, you don’t hear a horn playing like on Ranger, you hear a sonic boom .

I’ve been playing my Druid pretty heavily since launch, but I also finished up Herald. There are a lot of similarities between them and I really enjoy both playstyles. I run an Ascended Knight’s/Zerk/Soldier build as Herald and really enjoy my near 100% crit chance with Fury and 2400 attack. Hammer and S/S. Nothing like catching people between two CoR hits and smashing them for 8-10k damage and still having 20k health and 3300+ Toughness. Once we iron out the location of Commander Insignia’s……. It’s going to be interesting. Perma Fury that lasts a long time into Shiro S/S swap with 100% crit chance is going to be intense! Not to mention that Herald has probably the best heal in the game.
Herald does have some rough edges, but I think the majority of the nerfs have already hit.
Druid on the other hand, I’m having a lot of fun with. Staff/GS Ancient Seed/Sinister build Beastmaster. Tons of survivability, can do physical or condi DPS, decent crit chance, and daze for days! I’ve taken out a few Elite Specs in WvW, but I’m kinda back burnered for a bit trying to collect all of the Leystone armor from the Personal Story…. 4/6 pieces so far, such a cool armor set.
I’ll echo the previous comment, play both some!

That was exactly what I did, and the happy thing is the only legendary I crafted for my ranger was the axe, so yeah, pure win for me
Currently I’m not playing my ranger because I’m unlocking all the elite specs (just need to finish Berserker, Tempest and Daredevil), but Revenant (specially Herald) feels like an augmented ranger, s/a gives the damage ranger can only dream for and sword #3 and axe #4 makes you clue on your target like ranger sword does, balance the Glints facets and swap to shiro for burst while you have the option to swap to hammer and still offer some CC and great ranged damage AND party support all in 1 package is all I wished for.
as everyone said, just try rev out, if you like it then play it. I did try rev… and I do not like it.
i’d also look at DH, i’ve found it a lot of fun and a very similar play style to lb/gs dps ranger. for the time being i’ve abandoned my ranger, i’m planning on stat switching his gear to prep him as a main healer in raids but guardian/dh has been a king of pve for so long. and yea it’s kind of hard to switch back when you see how easy it is to kill things running other classes.
I’d love to play DH, but I only have enough inventory on all my characters except ranger for 1 set of armor. Every single character except my ranger is in WvW gear. So I’m stuck with a DH in full clerics which sucks in open world. She has to hit pocket raptors like 6 times to kill one.
Ranger power builds are really bad compared to other classes (made up for a little by Spotter + Frost Spirit), while Revenant power is almost as good as staff ele while stacking boons for the group and +150 group Ferocity.
However, Revenant doesn’t have a viable condition build, while Axe/Torch Ranger is actually one of the better condition builds in the game (decent dps with Spotter + Frost and Fire Spirits).

To me it looks like a non-AI dependant ritualist from GW1. Which is good, because we know what is an AI dependant class is… (along with necro MM and turret engis).
