Game Update Notes – December 3, 2012
Since when was that a bug?
Since when was that a bug?
Guess you haven’t noticed it yet but , ranger doing damage=bug
More Ranger nerfs instead of fixes, awesome.
“Area of effect heals and boons now prioritize players’ minions and NPCs.”
This affects rangers in wvw now our pets take the heals and die just as fast
This was definetly the bug that needed fixing the most.
I think there’s an extra point incorrectly labelled under thieves to do with whirling axes being able to be canceled by other skills.
This was a huge bug, per trap utility you could place two traps of the same traps (out of combat) by just swapping out the tier 2 trapper trait. It needed to be fixed and was in since the beggining of the game. Although not many people used it, or tried to exploit it.
I don’t see why there is any reason to be upset, we were not told to expect december 3rd patch notes to contain anything for class balance nor for ranger. Calm down and put down the torch and pitchfork.
HOLD ON!!!!!

It works at all ranges now AND works with all long bow abilities.
Thats actually a really really nice fix for longbow. Starting a fight with 20% vulnerability on people, I’ve been blowing them up!
Check for more stealth fixes imo

ye ye whatever..
I guess traps were doing doing marginally better. Gotta put a stop to that before people find out about it.
And looks like I’ll be ditching healing spring again.

The lizard pets now properly apply it too, that is an unexpected change. It also no longer disappears on missed hits, so you are promised a 10 stack of vulnerability. Thats fairly huge.
Consider this a general game fix patch. The ranger fix is on the way :-)
I know it will come. They are working really hard on it. They are just teasing us. You see! It will come! I know it comes. They promised us! Its on the way, just wait and see!

No, that’s correct. When Thieves steal from Warriors they gain an ability called Whirling Axe.
Awe, who are you trying to convince, us or yourself? :p

Well, I suppose Rangers got more changes then Warriors this time around. ;-) I re-rolled Warrior from Ranger. I still hope the Ranger class gets brought in-line soon, but I’m not holding my breath… Oh wait, Rangers are Aquaman reincarnate; never mind, no breath needed.

Awesome! if this is true, this sure is great news and they should add it as a bulletpoint to the patchnotes. It was perhaps the biggest trait bug we had and it ruined the marksmanship traitline.
Stuff like this is what I want to see in patchnotes, bug fixes.
I want a land Jellyfish and Spears on land!
Ranger
- Fixed a bug that allowed a ranger to have two traps of the same type active simultaneously.
Rant on.
Im prety sure this was fixed a few weeks ago anyway
@Holland,
It is true. Just found it when i posted it first, then have been trying it on players, mobs, and guards all over to make sure it didnt go away.
It even applies it at extreme max range (where you have to keep pressing “1” to fire)

Yes I’ve just tested it myself and it now works as expected. Someone should probably make a new topic about it so it catches people’s eyes.
Not sure, but it seems they broke the animations for our birds with this patch. When it lands, it now gets a second pair of wings and looks stupid.
EDIT: Apparently all the animations are messed up for the birds now. Even in flight it has a second pair of wings.

How bout fixing the Quickening Zephr + Crossfire combo….. that combo is supposed to be Super Saiyen 4 attack speed but instead it slows crossfire down instead of speeding it up. and how bout letting our traps activate when we set/throw them on a dragon’s foot
Not that anyone has noticed this but, the AoE buffs (i.e Call of the Wild) is also bugged due to the fix of ‘limited players’ that is in effect of the buff, despite them being within range to receive the buff. Therefore resulting in only 2-3 players receiving the buff instead of ALL within range.
Now the kicker is, this ALSO applies to AoE skills against multiple enemies.
lol’d.

Ever since beta, all AoEs have only effected a maximum of 5 foes or allies. If these skills weren’t doing that, they’re now in line with all the rest of the AoE abilities. Note that this excludes line and cone AoEs, to my knowledge.

Just wanna say this I correct, mass invisibility is “nerfed” (fixed) too here it now has the 5 player cap, this saddens me that it’s always 5 players max, because that’s just kinda dumb to me… But w/e.

Seriously though, I understand that the problems with our class demands a lot of time and the nature of software development doesn’t allow us to get fixes at every single patch BUT it would be nice if they would let us know what they’re working on WITHOUT giving an expected date for them to arrive. I just want to know that this class is worth sticking with. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, is it?

Does the quick math. 10% endurance full, + 10% FLanking, +10% thief armor runes also flanking, 20% penetration + 5% weapon damage, (10% spirit 35% of time) = 165% damage potential to open a fight pre crit? 145% not flanking 135% reliably…..

How? It didn’t work as a burst ability before, it’s still not going to work now. The only change was that Opening Strike actually works past 600 units now (or was it 900 units?). It’s still working exactly as it did before, it just works at longer range.
It sounds good, it’s just (still) not that great of a solo ability.
Now, in a group situation it’s pretty nice. Increasing damage from everyone by 20% nearly instantly is pretty huge. The only real flaw is that if there is anybody else also building for vulnerability, you’re both rendered slightly less effective, since it only stacks to 25.

I don’t think it’s sensible to include pet’s opening strike in that because that’s another source of damage entirely. So that comes out to 15% (Hunter’s Shot, Opening Strike) + 5% (Eagle Eye) + 20% (Hunter’s Tactics and Thief Rune) + 10% Steady Focus =50%
You do get 300 to Power in the Marksmanship line though. I don’t think we should get ecstatic because it can easily be countered with decent armor. You also sacrifice survivability.

No, the 20% is just the extra damage from vulnerability. The pet applies the five stacks of vulnerability to your target in the form of a debuff. So the target is taking a constant 20% extra damage from all sources, including you and your pet. The other damage comes from the abilities I listed above.

Except that you’re not really dealing 170% extra damage. Opening Strike only applies to your first attack. Which in all likelihood is going to be Hunter’s Shot to apply your first 10 stacks of vulnerability. So you’re going get the critical damage from Precise Strike, but it’s going to be on Hunter’s Shot with zero stacks of vulnerability.

Even at 35% you can get 3 and 4 shots +10% damage in a row. It may only be +3.5% cumulative damage over time but string together 35% chances and that could make one happy.
You can literally do a 30,25,0,0,15.
being able to open at max range and inflict your vulnerability means outside the range of steals and pulls which was a huge vulnerability to LB sniper builds. If you waited to get your damage debuffs you’ld get pulled and stolen to. Now you can open at max range KB and KD. Not sure I can see a way to get 20 in Nature to get the 50% but I’ld prefer the pet swap + pet stats enhancement anyways. And the flanking arc is rather large.

There was one more change to opening strikes, it procs off the first hit, not the first attack. Meaning it can no longer be obstructed etc, and the pets now also have the same buff. So that is for sure going to land at some point which is a large bonus to damage.
I totally understand, but the ability doesn’t actually do anything new. It just works like it’s supposed to now. It does the exact same thing it used to do, but at maximum range and without the bugs.
I’m not complaining, I’m glad they’re finally fixing things. Just pointing out that you could get the exact same results before the fix. You can now just do it at 1500 and without the bugs.
It was not working with my Shortbow at ANY range before this patch, nor did the pet version work.
Now it does on both accounts, gained about 300-400 damage with a stack of 10 up.

In regards to the opening strike calculations, I don’t really think you can count on your pet applying their opening strike because if you are standing at 1500 range, your pet probably isn’t going to be doing much of anything to the enemy anyways.

Thats another issue entirely, although true.
I think there’s an extra point incorrectly labelled under thieves to do with whirling axes being able to be canceled by other skills.
No, that’s correct. When Thieves steal from Warriors they gain an ability called Whirling Axe.
