Good Starting Class For a Noob?
Perfectly fits a beginner. You are able to level quite confortable, got many interessting pets to explore all over tyria and last but not least our class is really amazing in endgame content BUT with a high learning curve. So later it will take some micromanagement, alot of awereness and the right build but ranger is perfectly viable. The thing I like the most is, that we can move so kitten fast watch for that Exploits video here in the forums. If you decide to play melee, you have really good dmg and quite nice moving and evade-abilities. Make use of them and you move faster arround then an ele or warrior. I point this out, because movement is a big point to reach world explorer. Go for it
… And if you love bows, we got the best abilities with it. Shortbow is simply amazing And so is longbow in certain terrains or situations!
even at low levels, pets are an amazing resource. having a buddy is a great way to get a sense for the game, and being a beginner means you likely don’t have many friends in-game. the pet covers your butt while you learn the ropes, and it’s a fun class in and of itself
Thanks a lot guys, I cant wait to join the ranger rank lol….now to find a good world server.
Depends on what you want to do.
I play WvW and sPvP. Rangers are good in WvW for 1v1 or other very small fights, scouting and such, but most people consider them weak in large battles. They are very good in sPvP, at least for now.
I don’t do much PvE, but it’s my understanding they’re considered good in open-world PvE but generally a liability to the team in dungeons and fractals.
I stick with ranger because 1. I’m too lazy to lvl up another toon. 2. I’ve come to love the playstyle in WvW, for the most part.
Edit to add: As far as finding a world server, do your research. I suggest something tier 4 or lower, where the zergs don’t dominate most everything.

yup, a great class to start with. and to keep going. just remember two things:
1) ranger doesn’t mean ranged class (the melee weapons are tons of fun)
2) if you’ve come from, say, WoW, don’t expect your pet to tank for you. both you and your pet share the load while levelling.
those seem to be the biggest new player complaints from rangers, so keep those in mind and enjoy.

Beastmaster with high healing power, based on a build posted on these forums by CRabbit, or CRrabbit.
A lot of people also run 0 0 30 10 30 builds. There are many variations and discussions on these types of builds here in the ranger section, and there’s even a thread with a link to many of the builds.
Okay cool I wasn’t planning on being ranged, and I have played WoW and hated it.
