Grasping Vines & Entangle in PVP
So things like entangle pulse every second. So the immobilize can be cleansed between pulses, dodged, or players can port from the source (the roots). If they do one of those things mentioned they will “avoid” the next immobilize pulse and be able to walk free from the roots.
Am I good?… I’m good.
Vines are the same as immobilize, except the effect is a ground target that keeps pulsing immobilize, exactly like a trap does. But if an opponent uses any kind of condition removal, the effect of the vines will go away. If, however, that opponent stays on the vines, the immobilize effect will trigger/pulse again. Or if another opponent runs into the same vines, he will be caught by the immobilize instead.
A way to get round your foes escaping the vines, is by stacking control effects. For instance, by casting Muddy Terrain down first, and then Entangle after. This will cast immobilize, cripple, and then vines, on your opponent. Meaning that if he uses condition removal to remove two conditions, only the immobilze and cripple will be removed, while the vines will stick. The condition that was applied first on a target, will always be removed first, as long as it’s still on the target. So this also works by stacking bleeding or any other condition.

-Alexander Pope
They are escaping by removing the immob and walking out, or teleporting out, etc.
However, if they escape through those means they’re able to be retrapped by the roots if you’re especially crafty and force them into them again.

Thanks all for the information. I was not aware of so much technical details. Ok if I am roaming solo in WvW or with just one friend, would it be fair to say using Rampage as elite skill a much better option? I have been trying to use the Vines to either keep my opponent at distance or from running away, but if it takes so much though I am thinking Rampage would be better. For my play style, I use longbow for range and sword/warhorn for melee fun. Thanks again!
You can also get out with skills that have some movement involved, like serpent’s strike, at least I remember getting out with that.
As your weapons of choice are power weapons, you will be probably better off with RoA. You can take entangle for taking camps though. Get the npcs in one place and use entangle. Should make things easier. Most players will straight up evade the whole thing, or get out quickly.
