Greatsword Swoop Range Massively nerfed
Just checked in game, Swoop is 1100. Did it, and it still feels the same.
Where are you getting this from?
Yeah swoop feels the same for me.
Test it with a sword.
Just tested, Swoop still is 1100 range and jumps farther than Monarch’s leap. I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
Look at the tooltips.
Typo as far as I know.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Attached on this post is the screenshot I took of the tooltips. 600 vs 1100, just like before.
The linked imgur album is the tests. First screen is the starting spot for both. Second is Monarch Leaps’ result, and third is Swoop’s result. As you can see, Swoop definitely travel farther than Monarch.
Feel free to try to replicate my results.

It’s weird.. Without having seen this thread i actually wondered if swoop’s range had been nerfed, i never seemed to get as far as pre-patch.
I can’t confirm anything though as i have no video evidence from pre-patch, and it might be my brain tricking me. Would be worth looking into though

The OP is claiming that Monarch’s Leap now goes farther than Swoop, which is absolutely false.

Do I get a cookie for trying to test it?
First pic is swung at maximum melee range of 150 to get a kind of distance base.
Second pic is firing at the dummy at maximum range of 1200.
Third pic is where I landed after using swoop from a max of 1200 distance from the target dummy.
Soo….that ‘150’ distance of melee looks a lot wider than the difference of 1200 distance minus the 1100 distance after swoop. Some conclusions: perhaps ranged is bugged and we’re getting longer distance than we’re supposed to; perhaps melee attacks are penalized in some fashion for their range and both the 150 distance and 1100 distance aren’t accurately represented; Swoop may just have a bug and getting shorter distance; or I tested wrong and it’s not accurate.
@Leo, you weren’t at 1200, at 1200 that red bar wouldn’t be on the long range shot, arrows, unlike all other ranged attacks, can fire FURTHER than their “max” range at the cost of 1) The Auto Attack not triggering and 2) the arrows not being as accurate past the max range.
@OP: i just tested it, there is no change.
EDIT: Hornets sting sends you back further than 130units btw, so that may be what you’re confusing, that tool tip has been wrong since beta though…

Ah, never paid attention to those red bars under the skill button…
Kind of doesn’t make sense though. You say shots can go further than their max range…but that doesn’t explain why I can hit with a melee attack longer than its max range as nothing is getting fired.
But I guess it works for measuring the ‘stated’ distance as where the bar isn’t there is ‘presumably’ the written 1200 distance…and I say presumably because I’m doing the same tests with my elementalist and some distances don’t add up.

ONLY ARROWS can attack from outside the range (IE red bar) guns, and magic will not do it, idk if the thrown weapons will do it…
You were the Asura that was doing tests while i was on my sylvari leaping all over the place xD.
I did find out though that hornet sting has to be ~500 units, not 130 units due to the fact that if it WERE 130 units, and then leap forward 600 units, you’d go forward a total of 470… yet if you use hornet sting again where you land you go back FURTHER than the original starting place… so it totally can’t be 130 units.

Did you check the first pic? Shows me swinging a greatsword outside of range (red bar) and hitting. I’m just saying it’s not consistent :P
PS: The last pic I posted shows I’m in range (no red bar) and I still get out of range message.

The reason for this might be that the icon is already swapping to Power Stab (3rd chain attack) that has less range (130) than Chain 1 and 2 (150 both).

It hasn’t changed, I use it all the time. If anything, though, swoop needs to be longer and it should give 2 stacks of might upon activation, as well as blinding foes instantly as the start of the swoop. Ok, maybe the blind is too much, but the might is alright.
Nope, that is the icon for the 2nd attack in the chain. I wasn’t swinging in a chain to test it, just the first hit (because I knew each hit in a chain is a different skill). Regardless, I also tried the other skills at the time and all 3 in the auto could hit with the red bar as could maul.
