Griffonrook Run as a ranger
Have you tried putting your pet on passive mode? I get that if a griffon hits you, you will get into combat, or if you take fall damage. Usually when I set my pet to passive mode and it gets attacked, I don’t go into combat. It usually happens while I am on the run and while my pet does not try to attack the enemy (I keep on pressing F3 so it does not enter combat by itself).

You have to put pet on passive mode. I did it last week and I made it.
However, I’m a strong advocate to have pets not come out of stow when taking falling damage.
I didn’t specify, but I did put my pet on passive mode. But if he is attacked he always retaliates and puts you in combat.
So just got 100% completion on Lornar’s Pass and I went to do the jumping puzzle. In order to get the chest at the end you need to carry a bomb and avoid combat while finishing the puzzle in 3 minutes. This relies on not getting in combat with the griffons that are all over the puzzle and make up the primary challenge.
The problem with this as a ranger is that any time you enter combat you pet comes out. When you fall and take damage you enter combat for a split second and your pet comes out. When you dodge a griffon since the pet can’t dodge you get stuck in combat and slowed. This makes the entire thing ridiculous and I cannot see this as being intended.
FALSE!! this is -easier- as a ranger (easiest as a mesmer but mesmers can cheat with portal) because of one main thing, you can throw your pet into the gryphon so the gryphons will go for your pet INSTEAD of you, the bomb holder. You can make every jump in the puzzle while you’re in combat, i know, i did it a few days ago with my ranger and was in combat a good 100% of the time.

I was gonna say this. It’s during Griffonrook that i remembered why i love pet classes in PVE: free distraction.
I can confirm that pet in combat doesnt make you drop the bomb, just makes you run slower. Did this jumping puzzle last week.

The run slower is the complaint. Never said it makes you drop the bomb.

This is a bug, then. My pet on passive won’t attack unless I command it to – it never retaliates on passive.

This is the same for me as well, are you sure you had your pet on passive and didn’t just hit F3?

Did both. Guess case closed and it is a bug.
Fall damage trait that does no damage on creation, passive 25% speed signet, pet to aggro tank …
Yeah, Ranger is my favorite prof for that particular JP.

Thiefs fall damage trait is better there due to stealth + blind and no CD, but they also don’t have a pet they can throw under the bus xD
