Menorah | Charr Cat | Some Cat Thing
Still running my old RRR build because why not
(edited by Faux Sheaux.6179)
Okay, so I am completely in love with this combo. You get some random thief who walks up strutting his chest, probably dancing that stupid happy dance if he’s a Norn, and thinks to himself “Hey, a ranger! Free kill!”
And then suddenly your wolf has him on his back. Swap pets, guard on yourself, thief is gone by now of course. But then he decides to come back, and the moment he hits you…
WOLF ON YOUR FACE
No more dancing for you, thiefy. Not today.
I’ve been having far too much fun trolling other roamers with “Guard!” placements this past day :P
[Edit] I know this isn’t new, and I’ve known about it for ages as well. Doesn’t mean it isn’t fun!

Thanks for the tip, Faux. Last time I used this combo was to stop an invader from attacking me during a borderlands jump puzzle run. I guarded my wolf on a floating rock and sure enough the invader got knocked down upon landing on said rock. I then used my wolf’s terrifying howl and watched the invader go “bye bye”.
hahah yeah! ive been doin the same thing! you can also use it to place your pet in front of a runner..because the speed they use to get to the guard point is way crazy.
heya Faux. have you had the new condi put on you yet? how are you removing it?
It amazes me people haven’t found this combo until now….

I knew about it, but never had reason to use it. Just having a lot of fun with something I never had room for in my skills to do before :P
Isn’t the feeling of discovery fun? Let the man have his moment, Durz. By the way, Durz, want to do the new dungeon tonight? Hmmm? All ranger run???? Eh? Faux? Hyjaxx?

This is actually the only way I used Guard until this last patch (now shouts can do some other things). Then again, trolling thieves has become a game in and of itself for me. I am one of “those people” who will use a stealth trap and then lie in wait for a thief to hit it, lol.
The entertainment value is extensive.
Though, I dont really do JP’s, so hadnt really thought of using it in there, I guess.

Dear God, this dungeon was made specifically to add salt to injury. The AoEs kill you in a couple hits, they are literally everywhere, all the time (meaning little pockets to step on won’t save your pet). Add that on top of 50s, 80s, and 110s AoE bombs on the final boss that your pet can’t survive more than 10s of, and the midboss which is basically a giant electric wall that requires you to jump to safety to survive (yep, you guessed it! pet can’t follow).
This dungeon with a full ranger group. LOL. Man. That’d be tough. Really difficult.

I have totally done that. A lot of times I scout and run havoc in wvw. Sometimes we get these pesky perma stealth thieves who contest doors to prevent people from waypointing (has this been patched???). So I’d do just that: lay a stealth trap, stand by a mining node or something near the door (back facing out >:) hehe) and then…you wait. Like a true hunter, I trap my prey this way. They are so weak without access to stealth.

Ok, so you get it, lol.
“I am just a poor, poor lost Asuran ranger. Where am I? Where is my pet? Im scared!! Facing my back to you, thief, will show you I am just harmless, right?”
Mwahahahahaha!
Of course, they just run when they start losing, but that doesnt take away from the fun for me, lol. And, it sure makes it harder for them to do without stealth!
lol..no thank you on the Dungeon. this toon is wvw only… although some of those pve only runes are pretty cool..ill have to check em out.

The cannon AOE is fine, it’s actually doable. The spinning laser mid boss however, is NOT fine.
That’s BS design right there where you’re forced to make the pet take those hits because they can’t climb or jump.
Well if you do the final boss right there’s no big aoe attacks. There’s a trick to it where you take down health of first mate and mai in increments.
Has anyone tried a bird on the other boss?
Yes guard is a very good reason to take a ranger in tournament setups as they are still useless but atleast make a laugh for rest of party
Who said anything about tpvp? As far as I know, rangers are nasty at holding points with traps. I can see how guard would be useful in theory (wolf guarded at a point buys time) but it’s team comp dependent and relatively untested. On the contrary, Just looking at ranger traits you can tell they’re good at holding points with traps. Plus, ranger is a natural 2v1, making them excellent duelists.
