'Guard' should tether pet to allies!
With their change to Guard, you also have zero control over your pet’s positioning.
And keeping your pet without attacking at all just because you want 1 ability nerfed is ridiculous.
I’m against this proposal. The tether suggestion is way too wrong to be considered.
Keep pet without attacking? Not sure what you mean.

That’s the only way to force your pet into a certain position.
Set it passive without a single command and moving there yourself (so you pet does too). You want an uncontrollable object to be a center of range limitation in addition to being a suicide squad.
No, sir, there’s plenty of wrong in what you are suggesting.
Uhm I dont want it immobile at all? The elite glyph that tethers you to allies doest make you immobile either.
Why do you randomly assume this stuff?
I think the suggestion seems right.
Something has to happen asap, because getting the damage reduction without damage to the pet is broken.
And the range thing makes sense. There are 2 other skills, which have the same effect like “Guard!” now: Phantasmal Defender and Bulwark Gyro. Both need your allies to stay within their range to give you the damage reduction. Why shouldn’t this be the same for “Guard!” ?

Because you have control of your own character but you don’t have control over your pet that will run out of range once it has the chance. What cannot be understood here?
Let’s say I have smokescale out and press Guard. Then I decide that I don’t want to have a useless pet doing nothing but I send him to attack.
He’ll port to my target with Smoke Assault and breaking any tether he had. = useless
To reply to Kodama:
All Gyros have a specific function that either allows you to have control of the Gyro (Sneak always travels with you and has no other use) or sends the gyro to the desired position automatically.
If you press protect me and the pet transfers damage from more than 2 targets – it melts in 2 seconds straight. You have to focus Engie Gyro lowering your damage output to players. By using Guard the pet kills itself on behalf of players. And you want to make the pet do nothing by having it on passive (because it WILL run out of range in active combat).
Ranger has to rely on pet to deal damage because we don’t have enough numbers from our own weapons or utilities.
What is suggested makes no sense. We finally got rid of some of some absurd clunky mechanics we were stuck with and all I see is people wanting more of them?
The range that would break the effect could be something like 800 which seems totally fair imo. Also you actually DO have some control over your pet. If you want the dmg reduction then stay in those 800 range for 6 seconds.
Shouts are supposed to be an interaction between the ranger and the pet. It is fine for me if it takes some effort to use them efficiently.

Yes, you do have some control over your pet.
But I refuse to accept another clunky snip for unnecessary interaction. I want my pet on my target and not on my allies. Full Stop.
It’s already risky as it is.
The trade of the damage reduction is either a dead pet or choice of a bear (that is not that bad with this actually).
And I don’t feel like any gimmicky mechanic like pure panic if the target you want to protect is on a different side of the point node than your enemy is needed.
You are right that the swap on pet not taking damage is an issue – but that has been a negative feature for us for all those years (you gain no might from pet attacks on swap with interaction of SotP either).
I’m fine with that change as long as they apply it to both negative and positive side of the problem.
And no, tether is not fine. You’d understand after 2 days of having that on life servers and <7> threads about how absurd the change was. Experience talking.
