Alianza Argentina [ARG] @ Sorrow’s Furnace
(edited by Julian.8326)
Hello everyone, I was wondering if you can help me create a good build for dungeons, because I’m not really convinced on what I’m building now.
Basically, my idea is to use SB for main damage output, and LB for AoE and some support skills.
My current skills and traits:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmom0c0zMoFmvMMFGvMGpaaVcRMaoV
Regarding gear, I was thinking going half Pow/Prec/Crit and half Pow/Prec/Condition, with 4 runes of the scholar and 3 runes of the afflicted.
For accessories, a was also thinking going half and half, later I though about building a bit of tough/vit, but that would mean I need to do lot of WvW to farm tokens, which I don’t like.
On weapons, I though on going Sigil of Rage for SB, and something else for LB (don’t know yet).
The problem with this build, is that is really glass-cannony and I may die a lot in hard dungeon like Arah and high levels of FotM.
I’m not a stranger to dungeon runs really, but I haven’t done all yet, I’m still missing Arah, CoF, CM, and I found that is really hard to stay alive in TA for example.
Is it really necessary to build Vit and Though for dungeons runs? Or glass cannon works just fine for ranger?
I’d really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!

Bump.
C’mon, a little help for a fellow ranger?

Personally, I’ve gone glass cannon full pwr/pres/crit LB with axe/wh offhand for my dungeon runs. It’s worked for me, but I haven’t tried getting a tough/vit set yet. (I feel this is the only viable build for me [using lb]).
That being said, I think if you’re going to try to use SB as your main dmg output, you should focus on condition damage, as that’s where sb really shines. In medium distance the sb will perform about equal to the LB (~900 range) in pure on-hit dps, which is not taking into account bleeds. With this in mind, you want to maximize your bleed dmg. (at least that’s the build I would go if I reverted to SB).
When I did run sb, I ran power/pres/crit and let the bleeds be extra (personal choice)
for spec I’d probably use http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmom0c0zMoRMvMmRMvMGpa0fcRMaoo08kiT707kir7070M7kIZ70V7ow270m
I’ve done a lot of tweaking of a similar build and came upon this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMMQNAV3fjEVZ2RWOWsWCili9EomCOJJOD+zovgUmxUWjB;TkAqZMzImxOjbG5MrAGBsFA
I’m using Axe+Torch as offhand, which still serves for AoE, but you could just as easily use a longbow instead if you prefer.
Some of the traits can easily be switched to fit your preference, such as Vigorous Renewal or Off-Hand Training instead of Hide in Plain Sight.
Also, I swap out Muddy Terrain with Signet of Renewal regularly, depending on what I’m going against. I.e. if you need CC, grab MT, but otherwise take Renewal for condition removal.
Overall, after trying a lot of builds, I find this nails down the perfect balance of dps and defense.
All good suggestions indeed.
My own rule is: Dead man cant do dmg!! So I personally never go full glass canon. Ranger is squishy enough as it is! Also you are a ranger. At least 10 points in Beastmastery. Imho, one of the best contribution the ranger offers in dungeons / groups, is our TRAPS! Therefore my build is a condition trapper. Also this build can easily be converted to a pve build without the need to re-spec the traits.
Overall traits: 10 / 30 / 20 / 0 / 10

Compassion training is great in dungeons (pet heals more).
Weapons: SB & Axe + WH
SB keep the distance and condition dmg, WH party boon
Skills: traps. always spike trap. the other 2 can be swapped according to surroundings.
Elite. Entangle
Pets: Bear family
pve oriented:

Master’s bond make the pet a killing machine (or/and mother of tank)
Weapons: SB & Axe + dagger
SB keep the distance and condition dmg, dagger for the poison evade and bleed cripple.
Skills: spike + flame trap and signet of stone.
Elite. rampage as one
Pets: Polar bear (best vit and higher dmg then other bears) & murrelow (high vit and poison + he looks gr8!)
Its essential to keep pets alive and not swap (unless pets is dead) because of master’s bond.
Armor and weapon all carrion (condition vit power). jewls : chrysocola jewls (cond power vit)
rune: Mad king for the extended cond duration
sry for the missing link function. I couldnt make them right! you have to copy/paste.
Thanks for your input!
I been thinking on trying Axe for AoE damage, but I honestly think in dungeons the damage is not that good, although it might have something to do with my build. And also, I love the LB AoE.
awe extender, I understand your “rule” and that’s what makes me think I needed to focus a little bit more on vit and toughness. I might try your build, although I would need to change almost my entire armor set.
Dahkeus, I like your build, but I think the traits your chose don’t got that well with dungeon runs. I’m not sure if Hide in Plain Sigh is usefull in dungeons, and regarding Primal Reflexes, as far as I know mobs can’t crit you (although I might be completely wrong). Nevertheless, I like the idea of your build, what stats do you use in your armor set?
