Hi All!
I don’t think so, ive been playing ranger since release and I don’t think u can lol… someone correct me if im wrong :P
Guild Leader of Favorable Winds [Wind]
That is too funny, I main on ranger and just got to trying Mesmer. Really love it! I think you will really enjoy ranger! Have fun! Gotta target the pet to see it’s boons, unfortunately.
Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun
PvE | PvP (1500)| WvW | Fractals | Dungeons
Hmm.. The thing is some traits require that kind of mechanic like the Crits give might to pet.
Nope there is not sadly. xD I went through the whole hassle of actually checking how the whole pet boon system works and how it works with the different traits. Trust me, if there would have been a way, I would have been soooo happy!
I really miss that too to be honest. Would be a nice quality of life update for the ranger. Targeting your pet to see what it has is kind of a hassle. This also applies to all sorts of buffs. For example, does your pet get the WvW guard slaying bonus? All these kinds of things would be alot easier and nicer to see.

^Aww so sad to hear that.. I hope they fix it.
Since I main a mes, does your pet’s stats scale with you or any equip/damage modifier you use?
armor, weapon, trinkets, sigils, runes, food, wvw bonuses do not affect your pet
so does it mean even if im building a condi build, pets would still retain their own stats and hit somewhat hard?
Somewhat. If you went for a x/x/30/x/30 BM condition build, you’ll be able to dish out condition damage while your pet focuses on direct damage.
I’m still not sure if 30BM is worth the direct damage from pet though. I’ve been testing it out in HoTM and the 30BM increases cat dps by about 20%. I haven’t tested other pets yet.
Also keep in mind that moving/non-moving target and pet movement speed will also affect your pets dps since the pet can’t “move and attack” at the same time.
DPS on non-moving target
Cat>Dog>Bird
DPS on moving target (without movement speed modification)
Dog>Bird>Cat
DPS on moving target (with agility training)
Cat>Dog>Bird
I haven’t finished testing drakes, but they have around the same dps as dogs on non-moving targets. I would assume they have lower dps than dogs on moving targets since they don’t knockdown or cripple.
You might also like to take on extra CC skills (traps, muddy terrain) to increase pet dps, but I’m not sure if its optimal.

Even with nothing in BM, power pets will compliment a condi bunker PvP build quite well. Cats and birds in particular will elicit a lot of “kittening pet!” from people waiting to respawn.
Thank you for the advice all.
Honestly a lot of people are saying ranger sucks but to be honest i find it to be as fun as my mesmer.
Keep in mind though that it works limited the other way around (you having direct damage, pet having condi damage). While some pets can apply bleeds condition damage and healing power all 0 for pets. They can be traited to be 350 higher, but that’s about it.
Elona Bonechill – Necro / Fionna Gymirdottier – Guard /// RoF
so what’s the healing power trait for then?
so what’s the healing power trait for then?
It’s really up to you and your playstyle. If you think the ~20% dmg increase in pets is worth traiting 30pts into the BM line. Otherwise, Healing Power in this game scales pretty bad.
For rangers, Healing Power benefits:
-Healing utility skills
-Regeneration boons
-Invigorating Bond (trait)
-Signet of the Wild (utility skill:passive)
Compassion Training (trait: increases pet healing power by 350) benefits:
-Carnivorous Appetite
-Pet skills (Fern houd, Moas, Jellyfish, etc)
-Natural Healing (134/3s to 177/3s)
Side-notes about healing power and healing power traitline:
-Spirit of Nature (elite skill: passive) is not affected by the ranger or pet’s healing power and will always tick for 320hp/s
-Invigorating Bond>Natural Healing in (healing/s) always.
Also, never try to build around pets condition damage. Even with Expertise Training (+350 condition damage), 1 stack of bleed would be around 60/s from your pet. However, you can use pet conditions to cover your own conditions or for CCs (Spiders/Dogs with Malicious Training and maybe Intimidation Training is a nice option).
(Basically what nagymbear said. Secondary stats on pets are 0 unless traited and is not affected by the BM points invested in the BM traitline.)
