Are there any top level pvp Rangers left? Teamq or Soloq…I’m looking for help

I doubt I meet any of the requirements, but if I can be of any help, my theorycraft and experience are at your service.

Are you looking for a Condition based spec (definitely better at survival) or possibly a close-to-viable Power Longbow Specialization? Also, stating your gamestyle (aggressive, patient, safe) would be appreciated, so we can help you with the build that might possibly suit you the best.

Can’t you just say what you need help with? I’m sure there’s plenty around here that could offer an inkling about whatever you’re dealing with.

Set Up: Power Ranger LB/SB with Travelers

My synergy in soloq ( i only soloq) with teammates on Forest, Temple or, god forbid Khylo is lacking. I cannot find a good strategy/positions for my power ranger that I feel is going to dramatically help the team.

In Legacy, I know my strategy and I go in feeling like our team can win and I am going to be a big help to that.

In Temple, I’m ok…I bring timer alerts and good map awareness, but where are the best positions for soloq? Right now, I float in the space between mid and home to stop people pushing far and so I can quickly +1 mid. But I feel like there’s better.

In Forest, Ranger is tough to position in mid. If I stay on ledge/ pet is useless (unless I get lucky and someone is on other ledge). I can’t drop down or I get a beat down.
Question: Would switching to Ground Targeting Traps for Forest be a better Strategy?

In Khylo – I start on Treb, shoot first, then move the treb to mansion proper and attack mid for the first 20 seconds of the match, then go back home and float home/mid.
But the home/ mid strategy is really lacking. After I jump up building on either side, my pet can’t join the fight without running all the way around….again, losing all the benefits of pets. What is the best Strategy/Position/ Set UP here. Again, I’m thinking of Ground Targeting Traps.

If you’re running a power build, the first thing I’d do is ditch the shortbow for a melee weapon. My personal choice is GS, because Maul hits like a truck and its other abilities are quite useful.

Traps in a power setup aren’t really of any use, since they’re condi based. If you’d like to go full condi they’re an option, but I can’t see them doing you any favors in a power build when there’s better options like signets or LR.

In Temple it’s best to abuse the high points. Middle is amazing for LB ranger, since you can rain death from above in team fights at max range and force enemies to flee off the point. Many opt to hide behind one of the two pillars to heal themselves up or wait for that heal to get off cooldown.

Forest is a kittene for LB ranger. It’s probably the hardest map for the build. Sometimes I don’t even bother standing on the elevated parts in the mid point, since it makes me easy to spot, so I just use positioning and #3 stealth on LB to avoid the enemy. On the plus side, you can pew pew the NPC bosses to death fast and easy with skills like RF and chaining wolf/dog/spider CC’s.

Khylo is a map where you’re weaker on side points and strong in the middle. I usually start off on treb to shoot open the sides of the tower to allow me more easily shoot fish in a barrel when I go there with my trusty LB. If an enemy comes I quickly move to the edge while they’re still down below, use PBS, and unleash a RF on them. If they’re more tanky enemies, like warriors, I usually just abandon the treb. Let them waste their time destroying it. In the meantime you can move mid or wherever the team fight is. On the sidenodes it’s a bit harder to fight, since there’s fewer elevations to stand on and they’re not as high, but you can do alright there in teamfights. One of my usual strategies is to rely heavily on the stealth arrow to make them lose target and reposition myself.

Oh, and you might consider running something other than Traveler runes. Right now I’m using Pack runes myself for both more damage and team support (might, fury, swiftness uptime of 50% every 20 seconds). I know perma 25% running speed is nice, but I’d rather use the signet for that, if I had to, than waste all my runes just for that.

Double bow is fun but vastly inferior to having a bow/melee

I prefer the sword over the GS but that is a personal thing

Full traps is highly questionable in a power build you need your utilities to help you survive like Lightning Reflexes and Signet of Stone

Ditch the travelers runes use pack/hoelbrek

Haven’t seen any of these guys recently only Eura and he logs rather fast. Also Tanbin is the real Tanbin anymore

I’m pretty sure there is hidden gems out there still active and playing ranger at high lvl

thank you for the insight. I have been trying out different things lately. The only reason I am considering Traps is for Khylo mid and Forest mid where I loss a lot of dps due to pets having to run all the way around…..basically being out of the fight. I was thinking that throwing either Frost/Poision/ or Frost/ fire would offer some help to melee in mid.

Travelers – They fit me better. getting somewhere 25% faster, and having 25% increase in combat speed helps me separate better.

I only use 2nd weapon sets for Kiting purposes. I use SB for the 2 second daze/ -33 heal and evade. Other weapon set I like is Axe/torch or sword/torch

Utilities I use are Wild/ Sick Em or Stone (depends if there are a few Stealth) and LR/Entangle

Right now I am running 6602 but am considering the 6062

Shameful how a-net let PvP turnout in this game.

I wouldn’t use Sick em really, it has it’s niche roles but we don’t have problems killing thieves anyway so I’d pick something else. Signet of Renewal is always a good choice, a bit of condition cleanse and a stun break when you need it, just remember you need to be in range of your pet for the conditions to transfer. Traps are very meh at the moment and you’d get better condition damage by stacking bleeds or going a bit more offensive with an offhand torch. Definitely take signet of stone if you don’t roll with bark skin. Traveler runes work decently but you’d get a greater result from pack / krait runes respectively if you’re power or condi oriented. If you want to roll double bow though you do need mobility, however I’d highly recommend swapping a bow to sword/x and going down a condi/zerk route.

You mentioned your pets running off, put them to passive or always call them and swap when necessary so you don’t lose them as you run onto a point.
