what the title says.
This is how i use my pet without putting it into combat for it to die.

set pet to passive.
use only the following pets:

- Jungle cat (Might stack)
- Moa ( protection boon )
- Pig ( Item pick up )
- Boar ( item pick up )
- Warthog ( item pick up )
- Bear ( condi remove)

The idea is to benefit from the f2 ability, if needed use the pet as a shield or a Downed Finisher.

75% of my game is to dungeon, kinda of a casual player due to time constraints thus making my fractals’ kitten only up to lvl36.

Eventually up to sometime ago, my pet rarely died, then ANet buffed all summoned to +70%hp, so nowadays my pet dies in: being targeted on Maw, crossing boulder bit on COF P1, last boss HOTW P3, kitten … i’m sure i’ll think of more.

Anyway, a well timed “return to me”, oportunist Pet Swap, overall positioning (i melee the most in dungeons) and the choice for a ranged pet, makes all the difference.

We can’t be playing different games.

Well I guess my pet dies if I’m in WvW and there are hundreds of AoE on the floor. Other than that, I almost had to check if this was a necro thread, I find my pet to survive a truck being thrown at it nowadays post hp buff. It is a good idea to cycle your pets though, it’s basically a free 100% heal on a short cooldown

The health buff didn’t happen in WvW or sPvP, as far as I’m aware.

There is also:

• Red Moa ( Fury boon )

With the pet on passive and surviving a lot longer in WvW, Protect Me is a whole lot more interesting. Also, Empathic Bond and Signet of Renewal active.

I did make the exception in my post. OP does not also specify if this was PvP or PvE. Although, in SPvP you don’t need your pet on passive all the time, it’s a matter of knowing when to F1 or F3
