How are rangers now?
They’ve probably gotten worse since you left, but the community has become a lot more educated about them.
If you want to be top of the line at everything with no effort, play a warrior.
PvP, spirit rangers are at the very top of the pack, requires no effort on your part.
PvE, frost spirit and spotter with sword/warhorn are typically part of a dungeon speed run. Requires medium effort on your part.
WvW, mostly just roaming, but rangers are very good at it. Requires a decent amount of effort on your part. Not ideal for zerging, but it’s possible.
I run GS/Axe&Axe in WvW, PvE, and PvP. I have traps traited for ground targeting. I have no issues and kill pretty quickly. I find Spirits to be a bit weak for my tastes but that is just me. I tend to be unorthodox. Enjoy!
It’s as Fluffball said, they still haven’t entirely risen community wise from last place, however rangers have struggled for a while and we have come together. It certainly takes quite a bit of skill to hold your ground as a ranger, but now many different and efficient builds have emerged for those skilled enough to play them. Take a look around the forums, also if you’re really interested in your ranger then join the multi-server [Winds] guild (look in the forums) for constant ranger fun + feedback.

yea I dont mind taking the time to learn then i just dont think i have the time to master an ele that well also when i need to work i might do pve and just send pet in and auto attack on trash mobs and alt tab to get some vb done
Since you have gone, not much has changed. The main issues with the Ranger are still present, but the Ranger will recieve a big overhaul in about 2-3 months. The full package may take longer, not sure.
Recently, a Collaborative Development Initiative ( CDI ) was started by ArenaNet, and the Ranger was chosen by the community to be the first profession which should be buffed. No other CDI-thread in the past recieved so many replies, I hope ArenaNet has seen that way, how much the community wants the overhaul for the Ranger which they waited so long for.

Be careful about that….

ahhh yea that makes since! guess i wont be doing that! lol
Alright Rangers are not in a good place. But ‘good’ is subjective. We are in no way equal to the current Warrior, Mesmer and Guardian however we can still hold our place. Yes we have QoL issues and yes sometimes people just have bad days however:
1) In PvE we still are one of the best dps classes to take into a dungeon or fractal.
2) PvP Spirit builds are easy to play, and a typical Beastmaster build when played skilfully still trashes most people, especially if you evade properly.
3) WvW… right this one is tough, in a zerg fight? We don’t offer much. Roaming or small groups a Apoth RR will destroy, a Celestial trapper works great too. WvW is lacking for us a the moment but it doesn’t mean you can’t do well. Just learn the class and how it works and anyone skilled enough can play well.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Ranger is only strong in PVP currently ,with Spirit ranger being extremely annoying and deadly. Rest it’s a meh class with pretty low dps, and probably one of the worst wvw class to choose in zerging.
