How are the rangers these days...
SB get a little bit improvement, but still not as good as old days before nerf.
I would say right now it’s the time of BM build rising up.
According to popular beliefs, we are horrible, most of our Traits are bugged / dont work, the Pets spend most time dead or either killing us instead of helping. We have the lowest dmg together with the Engineers of all Classes, noone likes us in any PvP Mode, except as Enemys, and we can not contribute anything useful in Pve Dungeons (nothing which other classes could better)
however, the last Patch did good to us, many agree that we are MUCH better now and deal significantly higher dmg with Longbows (even though its just the Projectile speed that got increased a bit) and the 25% movement speed increase helps us surviving(?) but still all of the above applies and he needs to be buffed further.
i love rangers.
Signet of the hunt got a 25% run speed boost, finding itself on many, many, many ranger bars. (It has saved my life more times then i’ll admit)
And I’ll admit its nice, but some of us still prefer other utilities that are superior in use and function.

I do not agree my fellow poster, making us like thieves will kill the class overall.

arrow speeds are faster now, which makes WvW & PvP dodging harder, so that’s good.
pet speed (both in & out of combat) is faster so they can now hit moving targets, so that’s good.
greatsword’s maul got a damage boost, so that’s good.
signet of the hunt is now a 25% speed increase (as it is for everyone w/ a speed signet), so that’s good.
conclusion: there were some really good improvements for Ranger this last patch. we’re still a pet class, but now our pet damage is actually hitting (as are our bows). still to come (hopefully) are trait retooling and adding flair to our utilities. all in all, playstyle has not changed, only our effectiveness. if you liked the playstyle before, you’ll be happier now. if you didn’t before, it’s still the same, just damage numbers more often.

In response, I’m very happy with my Ranger now. I still feel like I have to do three times the amount of labor to be competitive but now I feel more confident when picking a fight.

Now only if they can put in some aoe mitigation for the pets so they don’t die in every aoe i’d be pretty content with my ranger overall. Sure there are plenty of issues still but wouldn’t feel handicapped by default anymore.

Well, I would rather to hear Anet buff pets damage for more since I already fell in love with the BM build. Anyway ranger himself will have the lowest damage output among all classes (due to pet), but ranger has the same survivalbility as other classes, so why not just focus on that and leave the job of damaging to our pets.
Since I redefined the ranger play style as a summoner+healer profession, I am not disappointed anymore.

Good before better now. Our last two patches have done a lot to strengthen the ranger. The big one this last patch was making LB more effective at range and making pets more reliable in PvP.

so, buff skills or bows all other class can outdps a ranger, half of our damage is supposed to be the pet, but the pet is STUPID, if the enemy is moving pet will fail a lot of attacks, but our enemy (he dont have pet) can hit with 100% sof is dps in each attack.
I could live with being weaker than everyone else if we used skills like the wintersday scout.
