So I started spvping. I’m having a very hard time dealing with mesmers. Any suggestions?

PU mesmers are ridiculous. When im on mine I fully expect to not die and to take down any class 1v1. Its the 1 prof and build that will take me from hot join to hot join without dying. Ridiculous and op. That being said, if I have to fight 1 when im on the ranger I try to kill the clones when im further than 260 yrds( I think) from them, that way the conditions wont hit you when they die. It kinda helps to go bm as well, the pet will auto retarget the actual Mesmer as long as its not in stealth. To be honest unless im on my Mesmer I tend to just leave, which against a pu build you can do at least. Sucky but so is the build lol.

How to counter something: Dodge and kill it.

Honestly I just walk away from PU mesmers on my Ranger. Or a slightly more different condi mesmer rendition being Sensotix (on his youtube channel) Scepter/Pistol Staff condi build.

Staff can just just eat us alive at times because a good mesmer (tactically, the builds themselves are so easy to play that I’m surprised people complain more about rangers than mesmers) will get it to constantly to bounce from us to pet to back and just mindlessly output condi pressure, and most ranger builds just don’t have the ability to outlast them, or it ends up being an endless 1v1.

Not to say they are unkillable, but it is such a hassle and they have so much sustain and can do damage so easily that I just walk away, because most of them aren’t running weapons that can lock you down, and they really can’t catch and kill players.

So honestly, if the mesmer is the only person defending the point, and they are a stealth user, I will just fight them until they stealth too many times and I get a decap/capture, and if nobody shows up to help, I just leave the point. They may be good duelists, but they are terrible pointholders, and if they don’t kill me and I can get a capture on them, that’s basically a win, since at that point they are kind of just a nuisance more than anything.

I usually go for the stun/maul with the great sword after my pet spider immobs them. If their still alive I’ll pop “Sic Em” (for brief stealth downtime) then I’ll try to deal the finishing blows. If that doesn’t work I try to use longbow skill 3 to relieve pressure. I usually die if the first combo doesn’t kill him though. :,(

anyone got a build that makes it easier to counter? but seems like the only solution is to go in, do your stuff, and run away :/

As others have mentioned you should just walk away. It’s pointless to fight PU mesmer due to flawed stealth mechanics and they can hardly kill you if you keep running. PU mesmers are good for trolling noobs nothing else.

so we’re concluding that there is no ranger counter to PU mesmers? would the reflect on offhand axe be useful? I havent used axe5 enough to know if it’ll bypass the clone mechanics.

as JC pointed out pu mesmers have more condition sustain than a ranger can deal with( given the fact that pu is close to impossible to pin down for a burst). So if you can force them off a point or get a neutralize by forcing their invis that’s a win.
