I’ve been trying to decide between a ranger or warrior to level up and can’t decide. Since the update came out, I was wondering how good rangers are now? Are they good at dps, survivability, and other things?

It’s going to be hard for you to get unbiased opinion here, because most of us who play ranger love it, because it is a fun and rewarding class.

The best way i can put it is rangers do what the do extremely well but are not as effective a some parts of the game, but after the patch there are only a few things the a rangers is not highly competitive at. Where as a worrier is some where between acceptable and great at every thing. I believe warriors to be a much easier class to play

It depends on what parts of the game you enjoy best. In all things PvE they are both very effective with rangers being possible the best class in the game for map completion. According to “Death and Taxes [DnT]” a large PvE and dungeon runner guild rangers sit forth on the DPS list above worries.

If you want to play mostly wvw then in big zerg fights Warrior is better then Ranger but in solo and very small groups ranger is better then Warrior. In sPvP both classes have there pros and cons, and can be used in different ways.

I suggest start leveling both eventually you will be drawn to one or the other and you can always level another at a latter date. I have all classes to level 80 but I only ever seem to play the ranger class.

Depends on what you want to do really. I play both classes in WvW mostly.
Do you want to be power oder condition-based etc.
There is a lot to consider. Both classes are find though.

Really your best bet is to play them both and see which fits your playstyle more. Join some hotjoins with them trying different builds out. I’m leveling my 7th class atm myself, eventually it would be nice to have any class I want to play at my disposal. Plus you learn a lot about each class and in turn are more effective at countering them.

If you can only choose one, maybe the one you have a more difficult time playing against.

This is a big thing. I strongly recommend that.
You’ll level up so fast in this game that playing 2 classes for the first few levels is no problem.
Eventually you’ll end up playing them both.
Don’t look at it like at your average WoW character. You are going to reach max level in 1 or 2 weeks.
I would not worry that much.

also if you do lvl a ranger learn to use the other pets first your Experiance playing the class will be filled with much more Joy.

Really, how well you mesh with the class you choose is going to be the decider here. Every person is different. I have fully leveled both (every) professions but rarely touch anything but my ranger/mesmer/engi/thief because the way the move and play suits me better.

So ultimately, like other people said, you just have to dip your toes in and see which one feels more meant for you and the way you enjoy playing.

Rangers are terrible and you should totally just go engineer if you want to be amazing.

I can’t quite speak for their DPS versus other classes but I will say a savvy ranger player can survive pretty well. I think they can be pretty dangerous too . . . especially if you can master the sword.

Get back in the game Tobias Rangers are not Terrible only the people that don’t mesh well with the class.

times have changed and so should that Attitude towards them.

I’d say not too bad an not too good. For once I find my ranger (wich is also my main) balanced compared to other classes.

My ranger I love to play, I like using sword alot. And I like I can solo so many things with my pet. I like using long bow at range and doing nice burst. But seeing my numbers so low compared to my warrior always make it feel like a bummer.

But overall I play the game for fun of course. So I’m on my ranger about 95% more of the time

the numbers are deceiving though; with our added pet dps, which we tend to ignore, we to top warriors in dps. Only thing that keeps warrior high on deeps is might stacking with GS, other than that a 1hs ranger has em beat

Rangers are overall third or fourth in single target DPS now when it comes to PvE. They have great party utility too.

Rangers are great at single target damage (if you catch your opponent off guard) but still suck on the AoE front.
