Personally, to try and offset the innate weaknesses of pets, I’ve pumped 30 trait points into beast mastery. I’ve done the same with marksmanship as well. So 30 in beast-mastery, 30 in marksmanship and I don’t know what to do with the other 10 yet. How about you?

30 into skirmishing. My crit is at 60% chance and 90% damage. So I rely on criticals for all my damage output (which is good because i critical almost every single hit).

10 into marksmanship for a small boost in power and 10% increase to damage. Power really REALLY doesn’t do much for rangers so putting it more then 20 isn’t worth it at all.

20 into Wilderness survival for martial mastery and shared anguish (this one will save your life ALOT)

5 into beastmastery for quickness whenever i want

5 into nature for regeneration

so i have a 10/30/20/5/5 split in PVE. Works amazing for me, I never die in Orr and my damage output is insane with all berserker gear running shortbow & sword/axe

The build is a spoon and a fork at the same time. It’s a Spork.

Giving 30/0/20/10/10 a try. Need to find a couple of people that would like to practice any new builds they do with a few duels. Too much theory going on when I try and analyze builds

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so confused about point allocation in any game…

How do you tell which is going to work in PvE or PvP or WvW?

I need a pvp build, really tired of dying and rooting.

I usually run 20/25/20/0/5 or 20/25/20/5/0 in PvE and WvW. Gives me all the useful traits for my shortbow condition build, while giving me a bit of extra damage and survivability. In sPvP I’m experimenting a bit right now, but going for a precision/condition build with 10/25/30/0/5. Empathic Bond is an amazing Grandmaster ability IMO, and the quickness you get from the 5 points in Beastmastery is incredibly useful.

I run a similar build to OP. I put my last 10 into wilderness survival for soften the fall and faster dodging.

I used to go a lot of toughness then I realized with good eyes and position you barely take any damage so there is no need for toughness. Using your dodge roll will allow any class to dodge any attack in my experience, so you just need to look out for that one big attack not that its going to one shot you. I never had a problem doing any content so far and i’m usually the last to die except when i’m trying to rez others. Having range on the longbow of 1500 helps too. I prefer damage over Condition because I like instant damage over needing to wait 3-8 seconds for all my condition damage to do full damage. I run longbow and I choose my 2nd weapon/weapons based on what dungeon/world event I’m doing. My rule with weapon is you need very single one your toon can wield.

My theory is, if pets are supposed to be such an integral part of the ranger(even bugged) then I try to capitalize on that. With masters bond giving my pet that extra stat boost they become quite the force. Also, with myself being bunker class, I am welcomed in dungeons. And it allows me to melee, which is more exciting that hitting 1 on my shortbow.

30/30/10/0/0 with beserkers greatsword/longbow. Start with Longbow and knockback anyone who starts a fight with you. Tac on Hunters Shot for 10 stacks of vulnerability, use a fast Barrage on them for cripple, do a short volley, and switch to gs. Pop Troll Unguent and Beast Masters. Fly at them with 3 and daze with 5. Counter anything they throw at you with 4 and finish with 2. Or switch back to Longbow for another knockdown if they try to run.
