Been a while since ive played, I dont own thorns yet so anything I should know?

Its fine if you embrace druid into your play.

In what game mode?

Druid is in a pretty good position for raids and PvP, fractals and open world not so much.
Ranger is still in a “meh” position, but today we heard great news about sword not rooting you anymore.
I have no idea about WvW

Well I won’t complain too much, I’ve been waiting 4 years for this change.
@Op: Druid does great for roaming and skirmishing in WvW, it’s still not that great for zerging. Base ranger is just outclassed by the druid in every aspect of WvW. Expect to encounter a lot of projectile hate. Pretty much everyone has reflects or projectile destruction now,.

He’s fine for fractals. Can’t really say if meta. People call meta according to how easy it is played, not efficiency.
Math’s wise – Druids are meta for PvE.

I don’t play WvW so I can’t really comment on that one.

Because other classes are better, and open world all it matter is have fast AoEs to tag as much as you can, I particularly like axe mh with fire sigil
You can do perfectly fine as ranger in any place, but in some you could be much better as other classes.

Just made it to legendary in PvP not to long ago for second season in a row, so I’d say it’s pretty good in PvP. Actually, I enjoy it more than GW1 Ritualist now, so I’d say it is awesome. It also has unique abilities to boost party dps so is great for raids, fractals, etc (mathematically and I think practically—I don’t do raids).
