How is this possible?
So I faced a ranger the other day while roaming in WvW, and he lured me into an underwater fight. After I put him in drowning state, he started to rapidly heal his hp back to rally even though I was constantly hitting him. He even had 3 kraits around slashing at him.
Also, during the entire fight, he would constantly go invisible whenever in trouble and so that the bunched-up kraits would gang up on me.
I would like to know how he did any of this. I did ask around people in-game, but I have yet to find an answer. Maybe someone here knows?

He has a pet heal when hes downed which heals for quite abit.
Also he probably has a trait that makes him go invisible whenever hes stunned

there are several threads on the forums already about this. all players do less damage under water. the ranger down skill 3 is that his pet tries to res him. because healing isnt decreased underwater but damage is, you arent doing enough damage to kill him. this is similar to “downed state tanking” in pve, where one player stays out of combat and rezzes a downed player who is tanking a strong mob.
what to do:
use poison on the ranger, or cast sink or float or daze or any interrupt on the pet, or kill the pet.
rangers have 2 sources of stealth, a passive that triggers when they get cc’d, and a dropped item from a pig pet. likely the krait were cc’ing the ranger, causing him to stealth.
