How to change the shortbow skills?
Make Poison Volley actually worth using. The poison damage is even worse than bleeds…
Sea of Sorrows
Even more agree it didn’t need a nerf on #1.
I for one liked the SB #1 skill bcause it felt like a machine gun and if built correctly did decent damage. That doesn’t mean i didn’t use the other skills but the cool down on the other skills are long.
If there is any way to fix it without un-nerfing #1 it is to dramatically reduce the cooldown of the other skills.
Frankly, the machinegun rate of fire of the Ranger was one of the most unique things about the Ranger playstyle.
If I wanted a slow firing ranged char, there are many other superior classes you can choose.
I would say a minor adjustment to some of the skills could really benefit this weapon.
1. Slow the attack a little, increase it’s per-arrow damage and make the bleed either work from any direction, or if still flanking-only, the duration should be increased.
2. Poison duration should be increased, perhaps a bit more damage per shot – this skill is actually pretty good if you use it point blank on a single target right now.
3. Increase the swiftness duration a bit to either 4 or 5 seconds.
4. Leave as is.
5. Leave as is.
The longbow on the other hand needs a 10% damage increase on skill 1 &2, and needs the [obstructed] issue fixed ASAP.
1. Crossfire – Return it to its previous state, remove position constraint for bleed or give a condition bonus like Vulnerability for the first hit on a target.
2. Poison Volley – Change to a poison cloud or field of some sort
3. Quick Shot – Add time to cool-down, Keep evade but make it a stunbreaker add Cripple
4. Crippling Shot – Change to “Hookshot” and make it a pull (little to no damage output though or this will get OP fast)
5. Concussion shot seems fine…maybe a tiny more damage but I don’t even see it as a problem.
Patent pending on that “Hookshot” ability…I know you guys like it :-p
Poison volley is potentially an interesting skill, since it requires situational awareness and positioning to strike multiple targets.
What they need to do (my opinion) is give the shortbow a little extra dmg for starters, and also they need to change the flight pattern of 3, 4, and 5. those skills are almost impossible to hit anyone more then 400 units away. number two needs a major redo as well. that skill is so useless anywhere past melee range. whoopie 2 seconds of poison. the only way that is useful is if you can time poison right when anyone uses their heal. thats very tough to do. just my thoughts.
All they really need to do is fix the bug that’s making Quickness not properly halve the cast speed for the duration of Crossfire. Every other aspect of the Shortbow (even the 40ms nerf to Crossfire’s attack speed) is fine.
Rangers have a lot of issues that need sorting, and almost none of them have to do with Shortbow (aside from the Quickness bug with Crossfire). It’s a great weapon. Greatsword needs a damage boost to make it a viable option over Shortbow. Same goes for Longbow.
Rangers need more reliable on-demand condition removal. Pet pathing needs to be more reliable, and they need to be able to use their F2 abilities while moving.
Shortbow isn’t the problem. Rangers are right on the brink of being competitive. If the above issues were addressed, they’d be amazing.
Poison Volley seems to be the spiritual successor to Poison Arrow. If anyone else remembers that pitiful skill, you can understand my feelings toward the current Poison Volley. Compared to Splitblade, it doesn’t pierce, doesn’t combo, does less damage, and has a longer CD.
The changes I’d like to see are anything done to skills 1 and 2 to give it a more condition-focused build. Crossfire should bleed unconditionally, perhaps with another bonus for flanking. Posion Volley should be changed to actually be useful for applying poison.
The only other change I’d like to see is making Quick Shot have a wider use outside of a dodge. Skills 4 and 5 are fine the way they are.
increase the damage of #2 shot, fix #3 skill that it sometimes does not move me backwards,#4 is fine, make #5 skill arrow move faster, it flies in the air like forever.

We were this amazing Ranger you speak of before BWE3 (minus the pet proposed pet fixes,) but now we are the laughing stock of spvp and slowly losing our pve prowess as well.

Right, so my point is, let’s identify the areas that need improvement and tell the devs about it. Anything else is just QQ, and it only makes it harder for them to hear the input that will actually help them improve things. So, to reiterate:
- Investigate and fix the bug causing Quickness not to properly reduce Crossfire attack speed
- Improve Pet pathing / AI
- Allow Pet F2 abilities to be cast on the move to make them more reliable
- Improve on-demand condition removal. Suggestion: remove range requirement from Sigil of Renewal’s active ability
- Improve Greatsword damage so it’s competitive with Shortbow
- Improve Longbow damage so it’s competitive with Shortbow
The class would be competitive and highly versatile with those changes.
