I main mesmer and earlier today I was absolutely destroyed by a druid in my home BL. By the time I noticed him I didn’t even have time to get up a block before the attack hit. And I don’t know what attack it was, but it knocked me back off the capture point, stunned me, and immobilized me all at the same time. Whole fight took less than 2 seconds after that. Since it was my home BL, the only stunbreak I was carrying was blink which was on cooldown, I couldn’t even use a skill before I was wiped.

I don’t have a problem dying, but godkitten that happened so fast! I’ve fought tons of rangers that weren’t a problem. But what can I do to be more prepared and actually put up a fight towards druids? Or was this guy running some cheese build and I wouldn’t have had much of a chance anyway?

I’m guessing you are pretty squishy and fairly new?

What you got hit with, was a standard opener for Druids running longbow with ‘ancient seeds’ trait.

Rangers in general do not rly have 1 hit KO skils. Hardest hitting skill would be GS maul used with signet of the wild up and on a CCed target but that isn’t the case with what happened to you.

You probably got hit by a Druid running zerker gear. Usually only PVErs or zerglings run full zerker for Druid in WvW roaming as the ‘cheese’ builds for Druids would be running a tanky set-up.

My assumption for you being new would be the fact that you did not use shatter f4 and sword skill #2. Best option to respond to such a scenario if you are squishy would be to hit shatter f4 and blink to target or away from target, ‘decoy’ is also a good option.

And I was dead before I could use any one of my skills. Distortion was the only thing I could pop off, because the druid had me downed before the stun wore off.

Don’t mind him haha, we’re just used to people who main other classes come here and request a nerf because “Ranger/Druid OP”, but i can see your concern is purely instructional.

So it seems to me you got hit by the classic Point Blank Shot, which procced the Ancient Seed traits (what immobilized you), followed by Rapid Fire (one of the two actually relevant skills for ranger to burst down opponents). Best thing i can recommend it to either reflect, since all those attacks are ranged, or to find some way to dodge during a few seconds. The ranger is then almost inoffensive until the Cooldowns are up, which is a ~15 seconds window for you to either retaliate or escape (watch out though, because rangers are extremely efficient at chasing, with gap closers, 1500 range and immobilize, as well as a 10% Precision boost is they’re hitting you from behind)

No, you didn’t. Anduriell has a pretty solid post history of helping people out here in our community. But he may take offense to your post or believe you are the troll. But hey, #Trollsneedlovetwo!

Point is, all classes face similar fate if they are unprepared or panic and use all of their abilities. That includes Rangers and Druids. I mean, I’m not running to the Mesmer forum and complaining just because I can’t beat a Mesmer and Druid pair nor could I find a viable way to disengage and run away…and don’t get me started on Gravity Well or the kittening Moa, ok?

I don’t know if you are trolling, looking for Nerfs (go read WvW Druid thread), or just a bad player looking for advise (we all have str & weaknesses has humans). In either case you just need to practice and not panic. There isn’t anything a Ranger / Druid can do that will put you down in under 2 seconds. Not even lady luck. You do have time to react.

Thanks for actually helping. I don’t know why others here seem to think I’m trolling or asking for a nerf. I never even brought up nerfs? Really though thanks for the advice, I’m always trying to improve my game, and this was something I had never seen another druid pull this combo before.

Were you knocked off the point in melee range or from a distance?

There are two possibilities. One, you were hit with Point Blank Shot, the other, you were hit with Glyph Of Tides.

Point Blank Shot is a 1,200 range projectile that knocks targets back. Glyph Of Tides is an AOE with a radius of 300.

After you were knocked back you say you were stunned? This probably means that the Ranger either closed the gap if they knocked you back with Point Blank Shot or they were already in melee range. They then used Hilt Bash, greatsword #5 skill which dazes if hit from the front and stuns if hit from behind.

I think it’s likely that you were hit with Glyph Of Tides, knocked off the capture point, hit from behind with Hilt Bash while you were knocked back which proc’d Ancient Seeds. Ancient Seeds immobilizes a target if they are hit while CC’d. You were CC’d and hit with another CC.

Then they probably popped Signet Of The Wild which increases the Rangers size, speed and damage as well as granting Stability. After they popped SotW, they likely hit you with a Maul, greatsword skill #2 which can crit some pretty high numbers with damage modifiers or enough might stacks. The Ranger may also have been using Moment Of Clarity which grants a +50% damage increase on your next attack after interrupting a target. If s/he interrupted you before using Maul, this may be why you were basically one shot.

So I’m thinking it went like this: They used SotW for damage increase, pushed you out of the ring using Glyph Of Tides which made the next attack immobilize you, they interrupted something you were doing, hit you with Hilt Bash which stunned you and now immobilized you thanks to Ancient Seeds, also proc’ing Moment Of Clarity for +50% damage, then used Maul which likely hit you for between 10 and 15k.

I have no skin in this fight. There is no suspicion. I just didn’t think it was right to say someone was a troll when they more often than not provide value add. Furthermore, to say you got one or two shot by a Druid or 0 to Death in 2 seconds is a bit of a stretch. Even of the Druid was running full berserker. I mean, is the original poster an up-scaled level 80, tomb leveled, no gear or food buffs, instant coffee level 80 gifted character who is just hot lapping a new character expecting to be good? Then getting destroyed and asking how to play?

“I main a Mesmer” doesn’t give me much of a backstory, does it to you? I’d wager an adult beverage of your choice that in this same situation said Mesmer would have faced the same result regardless of class attacking. I guess what I’m saying, and most of us know, is that every class has similar forms of burst and panic escape options. However, the Druids burst in most cases will be lower than that of other classes which is why I stand behind what I just wrote above. This would have happened had it been a Guardian or Thief, or any other class…

Edit: Note I didn’t say L2P or Mesmer was bad…I’m just going to say this is a bit of a fishing story. My opinion.

The ranger probably got a lucky 100% crit rapid fire. I assume you were running glass as a glass rapid fire won’t 100%-0% a person with 17k+ hp and 2400+ armor. Put in +300 vita/toughness and get ascended armor with toughness infusions if you don’t already have.

Need more info tbh. What pets did the ranger use if u dont know the name can describe it. Like everyone else mentioned it was most likely pointblack shot that pushed you off the point and proced ancient seeds grandmaster the big thing here is that they might have been using a smokescale and with beast mastery and opening with either a stowed pet or pet swap they tend to open with smoke assault which hits kittening hard and they could have also been topped with a signet of the wild (25% danage boost) or gs hilt bash which increases next pet attack damage by 50% i think. Despite what ppl may say druids have very high burst potential it’s just not as often as other classes like say a thief or warrior which is fine tbh considering everything else that can be a druids disposal.

Not everyone is so experienced and people can get one-shotted in WvW by a ranger, right? Maybe he/she is new to an MMORPG and plays WvW in masterwork gear or something, we don’t know. Indeed we don’t know much about the backstory, I fully agree. That doesn’t mean it’s a veteran too that is looking for a nerf.

Ranger and Necromancer have always been my two main characters but for the longest time, I considered Necromancer my true main. I used to reside primarily in the Necromancer forums but over the past few months, Ranger has become my new true main.

Since making that transition and visiting the Ranger forums more frequently than the Necromancer’s, I’m noticing that this community is a lot less friendly. Any time someone so much as insinuates something is strong, everyone freaks out and starts throwing around insults. I mean I’ve played Ranger for years, I understand how ANet loves to nerf us but people here really need to relax. If someone asks an honest question there’s no need to attack them over it the same way there’s no reason to avoid discussing something that might be over tuned.

I don’t know much about WvW, but would suggest you have at least 2 stun breaks on hand, especially if you use one to travel. Anything can 100-0 you if you don’t have stun breaks in your build. Still, I think you got hit from behind with hilt bash or SB 5. That’s pretty much GG if you don’t have a stun-break and Ranger is full glass.

Against rangers, your best bet is always to use F4 (Distorsion) when you get knocked back from range by LB4, if you have the reflect trait. If you don’t, then just stun break and evade: if you do it quickly you won’t get immobilized. If you do however, stunbreak and sword #2 instead.

At this point we can’t be sure if this is still an honest question or jus a troll thread as Balian already answered him but he kept with the OP song. AS i pointed out if he had trouble with a single daze, other classes would instakilled him on sight.

Now and again, for second time i’ll repeat what Balian explained to you perfectly the first answer.

In your case for what you say the stun never happened, you got dazed.

So as i said in my first comment, Balian explained exactly the situation to you but you disregarded immediately the chain was as simple as this one: Lb4 – Lunar Impact+MoC(maybe) – any weapon of choice.

As others pointed out: going PvP with just one stun break is a noob error and from there you need to L2P.

If Druids have a lot of CC, Warriors is a non stop CCfest . You would have died anyway againts any other class, a it is not a problem about what hit you but that you weren’t prepared at all.

Druid is not weak vs condis. Especially in wvw, where it is easy to avoid most condi dmg via kiting while killing those slow condi builds from range (preferable with lb), a proper build and played druid should be able to kill or at least survive vs all condi builds in 1vs1.

Because this druid build is also gross and basically a bunker build with stealth resets. This druid build also only beats players who over commit, as druid does jackkitten for damage and the pets won’t hit anyone who’s moving so the druid needs to kite you around the pet for the pet to land hits at all.

Power mesmer is trash. It is weak to thieves, it is weak to warriors, it is weak to scrappers, it is weak to about any condi build.

The duelist/roaming build for a mesmer is condi, sorry you are so bitter about losing to them.

When I face a good Mesmer on my Druid the first thing I do is say a quick prayer that I brought the right pair of shoes to the party. Because I’m turning and burning the opposite direction. Full mil afterburner. At this point it is all about managing my assets and control CA so I can gain stealth at will to move about the map.

If on the other hand it is an average Mesmer then I pretty much do the same thing by managing CA but use stealth to gain higher ground before I engage.

I personally find Mesmer’s are just a solid counter to Druids. Just like certain reflect happy Engineers are to Power / Berserker Rangers.

Where did I say I lose to condi mesmers? I specifically said a good power mesmer is much scarier than a condi mes. I don’t run a bunker druid. I run a glassy hybrid build with good condi removal that wrecks most condi mesmers. If I run into one that’s build counters mine I simply move on and they don’t have the burst damage to stop me.

This is why condi mesmer is mediocre when roaming. Roaming isn’t dueling, you don’t have to fight people with kittenty builds on their terms.

I don’t think people understand how excellent a good shatter mesmer is. They can start and end a fight completely denying you the fight. A condi mesmer you can actually blink and not be dead.

Yeah, yeah, that’s why shatter mesmers are sooooo meta right now in spvp and wvw roaming. Clearly most of the world hasn’t become aware of their amazing mediocrity and awful match ups against the most popular roaming classes — thieves and scrappers who hardcounter them.

the thing is shatter is a one trick pony, it should only get you once.
Once you know how it works is like our ranger builds, that are easily countered. It is true of you got inside a shatter you are dead.

I find much more problematic a condi Mesmer with all that confusion that reach levels of the absurdity. That’s why power shatter is not that used and bunker condi chrono is the cancer cheesy build for mesmers.
