Hunter's Call DPS is insane
Dont forget it’s a channel skill that spread the damage over 4 seconds or so, so the overall dps is not that high. Plus most people will dodge at least a portion of damage in that 4 seconds.

I can’t remember the last time a ranger tried to hit me with a warhorn tho.
Line of sight also stops the damage completely.
Also with the activation time it is a lose of damage compared to just auto attacking with the sword.

They lowered the activation time of Warhorn 4 , so the dps is actually alittle higher now consider you only cost 1 second to cast.
The birds, the birds!
Some people just freak out when they see the animation.

To be fair, it’s a good idea to freak out when they’re hitting on you in HotW.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Forget about hunters call, look how much ricochet is hitting for in that pic! That rabbit never stood a chance.

Yeah. OP, you may be receiving a call from P.E.T.A.
They generally don’t enjoying us treating the ambient creatures that way. Seriously, you may be on a time out later
Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)
let’s look at your example
12 hits, 304 damage
3 hits, 335 damage
1 hit, 141
grand total: 1,462
the skill takes 5 seconds(1s cast, 4s duration) to run its course, meaning in your example, it’s doing 292.4dps
the start of your autoattack chain(“slash”), on its own(meaning you stop, wait for the chain to reset back to slash and re-use it again) does more dps than that
Math:
12×304 = 3648
3×335 = 1005
1×1 = 141
Grand total = 4794
Dps = 959
let’s look at your example

Meanwhile, in the euclidian world…

335 is coz I hit the rabbit and gained might. He was siding with the moa so I had to kill him.

i must’ve missed a button when multiplying one of those numbers, my bad

Well now we are going to hear about how OP axe rangers are because they are dishing out 181k+ damage. This is why we can’t have nice things!
2580 Power
94% Critical Chance
236% Critical DamageAgainst EBG Level 80 Crimson Moa lol
I don’t even want to mention Path of Scars with the exact same Power, Crit and Ferocity.
…
Don’t even think of posting that here.
It hits 5 targets, applies a pull version of CC, and has half the cooldown. Also, I think it has shorter cast time and the damage is dealt in shorter time period.
Jesus Christ, don’t you dare post Rapid Fire damage here. I beg you. I’m already frustrated from all the QQ threads I read daily. Plus I don’t want to see the most underplayed class in this game from competitive scene nerfed.

They’re too busy calling the Necros that slaughter them wholesale for life force to bother with Rangers occasionally hitting them with an axe.
Ranger is the most broken class in this game. The warhorn is just an example regarding ranger status.
Compare warrior warhorn to ranger one and you ranger enjoy being the last class in gw2
I still use warhorn in competitive PvP ;-;
I crafted an ascended warhorn just to swap in, buff me and party for roaming, swap out.

I think you’re counting it wrong.
After 1 second cast you’re free to use any attack over that 4 seconds.
So the actual time you use on this skill is one second.
Rapid fire takes 2.5 seconds to cast, so before that 2.5 seconds end, you can’t do anything else, so the full damage need to be divided by 2.5. Warhorn is not the case, it takes 1 second to cast and that’s it. The problem is this skill need LoS to keep up the damage, and most likely a portion of damage is going to be dodged. But in PVE it is actually a dps increase overall.
…
But in PVE it is actually a dps increase overall.
A DPS… Increase?
… In which way?
You mean a DPS increase compared to no off-hand weapon equipped? Well yea… Obviously.
A DPS increase compared to Off-Hand Axe? Well something about your calculations is ridiculously wrong here. From any and every angle of view I look at it.
A DPS increase compared to Off-Hand Torch? … Well, I believe we are discussing PvE. Torch does not belong to that category by default. It’s a condi weapon that has nothing to do in Zerk Meta.
So… If may I ask … How exactly does it increase your DPS? In which way?

Ok, yknow, the main reason to use Warhorn is to use the 5th skill buff and blast finisher, that’s why people will choose warhorn sometimes over other off-hand weapons.
You get your 5th skill yeah, but you still have a 4th skill to use. Against single target , after you spend 1 second to cast 4, you can keep up your auto-attack, the 4th skill will keep ticking the damage. So your overall damage is higher over 5 seconds compare to just auto-attack for 5 seconds (even with a sword). That is what I meant by dps increase.
You will argue that other off-hand weapon does more damage, but like I said, the point of using warhorn is for the 5th skill which other off-hand can’t replace its function. 4th skill is just an added bonus for a dps increase if you choose warhorn.

Now, if that crimson moa was a guardian with retaliation up instead…;)
Hunter’s call is really only good in hybrid/condi builds to proc the Sharpened Edges trait and Sharpening Stone effect. Would be a nicer ability if there were more no-CD on-crit/hit effects for Ranger to access.

LoS doesn’t stop damage, that was fixed a bit back.
There’s currently a bug, however, where if you turn your camera away from an opponent while channeling a skill at them, damage markers won’t appear above their head even though you’re still doing damage.
Also, Hunter’s Call’s dps isn’t op at all, forget not that our OP was specc’d full glass cannon against a moa.
Full glass cannon makes even lightning reflexes become decent damage.

This is why I love Entangle + Madking Runes ;-)
With the extra raw dmg and bleed procs casted onto 3 targets, it makes entangle not so lame even if they do break the roots.

^Exactly that. Too much investment if you want to use the warhorn as a condition procer. Long CD, trait investment, precision investment versus simply taking up a torch or dagger.

Remove the channel, make it hit once and apply blind, and its fixed.
