I go down the stairs
I agree it is a bit annoying in wvw when I am on a higher elevation and instead of jumping a foot down the pet has to run all the way around to get to the target, I am guessing they are not planning on fixing it though :P
if the pet cant get there by walking.. he will port to your side.. i’ve seen many times.. so the coding is there.. altho abit tricky for different situations..
this is a problem on the pvp map with the water – (assault on the capricorn?) if you jump down into a battle your pet will not be there. If you wanna do the math on that its: Ranger – pet = dead ranger.
I tend to just pet swap immediately after landing. A better solution would be press stow pet before jumping down, but you can’t do this if you’re in combat.
Stow your pet befoe jumping or swap your pet after juming.

Yeah this. A key for storing and activating would be nice though.
I don’t care if he takes the elevator down, as long as he hits my target once he gets there!

wondering if it is to do with path finding and potential exploiting. trying to work out when its ok for a pet to jump from a wall or scale a wall. if you are defending, not so much of a problem. but if you are attacking then it is. there are likely many instances where a pet jumping down or scaling a wall/rock/cliff could be exploited to some degree. so instead of that headache, the pet just uses pathfinding. if that fails, it teleports to your side (eventually).
I have a tendency to use the same route when desending. I pretty much know when my pet will jump and when it will path and or teleport. The biggest problem for me is when it dies after jumping its so random. I also agree we need a stow key as well as a passive/guard key.

I think it would be incredibly complex path finding to calculate your pet leaping off walls. Not to mention that you’d have to start calculating falling damage on pets too.

Is that beyond their reach then?

Well my pets have taken falling damage before… and died from it because my 50% fall damage trait doesn’t seem to help them out at all xD, so i don’t see how it’d be -that- hard. but then again, i’m no programmer.

How can your pet take falling damage? That’s like a mob taking falling damage, I may be mistaken but I’ve never seen that before.

My pet taking fall damage is very rare but it does happen. I would say about once a week for me. For the most part your pet will teleport when its a really high fall. If you have 50% fall reduction and you end up with around 33% life after the fall your pet will teleport.

Well I do a ton of Jumping Puzzles, and jump off of everything (which is why I have the Fallin trait xD) and I can say my pet takes falling damage about 3 times a week… It’s normally on ramps where he sorta “falls” multiple times down the ramp instead of walking normally and he takes damage after each “fall”
That being said I hope mobs will be able to be launched off cliffs to their death… I really liked that in SWTOR (and that’s where the pros ended for me)

My pet has taken falling damage before, kinda stupid given it’s a bird.

It makes an awful sound as it dies as well, I’m not screemish but even I wrinkled my nose when I first heard it.

Yeah I’ve had it happen too. On the plus side, it makes your (dead) pet stay in place. So now you can run around jumping all you like without having it chase after you. At least until you get out of range and it teleports to you.
