Hi all, that’s my first post. So I reached max level but I have no idea about builds. I was checking many builds here on forum and can’t decide which one to choose. I want my main weapon to be a shortbow (actually as 2nd I got longbow, but I never swap weapons). As pets I’m using felines, birds and wyverns. I like a lot of mobility and no traps. Actually I’m playing only PVE, but wanna try into WvW and PVP. I would like to have a lot of dmg, not much survability. And where should I get weapons, armors, sigils and all equipment? I added a screenshot with my skills and build.

What you have is just fine for open world PvE. Map completion, world bosses, etc. I would only suggest trying the shout trait (Beastmastery Adept Major 3) and taking “We heal as one”. It will also help “Strength of the Pack” and “Sic ’em”. Then drop Signet of the Wild for Lightning Reflexes. This way you have better burst heal, regen on shouts, you can remove four conditions on command and get away from where the conditions are happening.

If you’re planning on maining shortbow, you’ll want a balance of power and condition damage. Precision and Ferocity will boost your power damage as well.

As to where to get it, you have a few options. Dungeon token vendor, the karma vendors in Orr, crafting it yourself, but the quickest option is the Trading Post. Especially for off-meta sets, a set of exotic armor and an exotic shortbow shouldn’t cost more than 10g. Then you can customize from there. The accessories might be a bit more but don’t be afraid to play with what you have until you can afford what you want. The laurel vendors are your main source for Ascended accessories.

If you want to get into WvW/PvP (and even fractals), I would suggest first looking at Metabattle’s Ranger Page . Whether you choose to follow one or not; look over a few builds and learn how things work together.

Also, Healing Spring is a trap.

Ok, thanks for informations. I would like also to know which secondary weapons should I choose. Sword/dagger or axe/torch? And sigils – rampager or viper? Bleeding on weapons? Are hawk, lynx, wolf and wyverns good options? And isnt’t entangle better than six of the pact? I see most of people using it. Maybe one damage trap instead of Sic’em would be better?

Just like your primary weapon, secondary weapons are up to personal preference. If you plan on doing open world/map completions, consider grabbing a warhorn for your off set. The swiftness from WH5 will get you around faster. Axe mainhand will work decently with it and is a hybrid weapon like shortbow.

If you’re starting with Exotic equipment, go with Rampager’s as it’s cheaper. Viper’s can be great if you can afford it (I use a Viper’s SB – A/T build in raids) but getting the full set can get expensive or tricky.

For sigils, I’d suggest Sigil of Agony (+ bleeding duration) and either Sigil of Blood (steal health)or Sigil of Earth (bleed on crit).

Rune of the Ranger is a solid and easy pick.

Of the pets you mention, only the wyverns are meh IMO. They have decent CC but they don’t hit too hard. I would personally go with Pink Moa over Lightning Wyvern if you need the CC (except for Gorsival). Rest are fine.

As for Entangle, try it out. Especially in a condi/hybrid build like you’re building, it can do some great damage to 5 non-champion enemies. You’ll have to decide if you need help with groups or if the buffs from “SotP” will get you through. They’re both good.

Up to you if you want to add in a trap. Only Frost Trap is lackluster. Feel free to try them out.

That’s like the exact opposite of what rangers and druids do. :-P

It’s not SB, but give it a try and you may like it. It’s long been a community favorite style of playing the ranger.

I got over 300 gold, sold 1 expensive exotic staff (idk where I got it) so I think i can buy something better

For my Ranger I wvw a lot I like using the rune of the trapper and using traps I use long and short bow condition since traps are conditions 6 is my heal which I get the trap then 789 I get 3 of the 4 traps and for my ultimate I get entangle

I love shortbow builds, but they are challenging to pull off. Usually the shortbow is great for small fights in close quarters. Unfortunately it doesn’t do enough power dmg or spike condition dmg for a glass cannon (condi or power) build. That’s why most often shortbow builds need a certain degree of survivability via stats (toughness, vitality or healing power) or utility (traits, pet choice, cc). But if you are confident in your skills and you want a build that can blow people up in 1v1’s then I would set up with skirmishing, wilderness survival and either druid or beast mastery traitlines. Pick the offensive traits in skirmishing, the survival reduction and fury and confi removal in WS and whatever suits you in the third. Use either sinister or viper stats. Catching someone off guard you can get up to 25 stacks of bleeding on them in very short order. Give it a whirl.

Great for planning builds.

With SB, you are going to come across some tough times in competitive play. Basically you have to build around a bleed / poison / quickness deal, pretty much like what Scoutsman said.

Problem is such a build conflicts with Druid, and Druid is one of our strongest traitlines. For Druid you probably should bring a staff (if anything for the mobility), because nothing builds AF like it.

If you do Staff / SB, you hybridize and lose a lot in the range for SB. That is, Staff / LB is probably better because of the invis on LB and the range of it.

I’ve played many builds over the years and almost all of them have SB. The problem is, none of them are that great…
