I've been corrupted
And suddenly, I went from hating Ranger, to LOVING them!
I’ve gotta admit, I still think Ranger lacks the melee burst of a warrior. But after playing around a lot, I noticed the Ranger has his own tricks that make him useful:
- So many ways to maintain chill on bosses (increasing the time between their attacks).
- A pull on OH axe (underrated)
- Very nice damage with 1h sword
- Best ranged damage in the game (I believe)
- VERY long duration of stability (using RaO +SotW)Know any other niches of the ranger? Post here!
I’m glad you love it and I’m not gonna kitten on your parade today because I’m in a good mood.
~Have fun!
Congrats… so as not to ruin your thread, I’ll leave it at that.
That stability is what makes me laugh at all the harpies in the uncatagorized fractal. Team wipes, but I’m still standing Too bad about the kitten harpies going invuln when you range them :/

You don’t want my opinion.
This will be a happy place with rainbows, unicorns, and teddy bears.

Sure, if it’s constructive.

No, lets keep this thread happy, we can sulk in the rest of the Ranger forums.
Alright….
I’ll just start with the ranged damage. While Longbow isn’t necessarily the strongest weapon, it’s certainly up there. But that doesn’t really mean it’s good. Especially when you consider it’s predominately a single target weapon and most of the abilities for the weapon aren’t helping your DPS much when used.
Take Elementalists with Staff for example. Fire and Air are both very strong weapons that do roughly the same damage. The traits in Fire (lol) and Air increase the damage of the Staff considerably. The secondary skills for these weapons are very powerful as well. And they’re mostly all AE. Now of course this is offset by the fact that the Ranger has a pet on the target which obviously pushes things more in favor of the Ranger. But so do the other weapon sets which begs the question why use ranged instead of melee?
I would expect a class that is probably the worst of the condition classes, worst of the AE classes, and borders on worst in the utility department to offer more real upfront damage or something. It’s just all kinda meh with this class.
I thought Elementalist staff Autoattack has a higher activation time and less damage than the Ranger longbow Autoattack?

It has a longer cast time, but no after cast to my knowledge.
It has lower base damage too.
But the Fire trait has +5%, +10%, and actual skills that do damage (lava font does a lot of damage, burn does a lot of damage, meteor shower is a dps increase), and stacking might.
My biggest concern with ranger thus far, and moving forward is the surprisingly sparse use of bows in PvE. Also: MM trait consolidation.
I still greatly enjoy my ranger, but I have to say I noticed some of the trait line choices are….strange. Like creating a healing spring on death. Other than for someone’s RP movie, who’s really going to use this?

It’s an error. It’s actually on down, not on death.

Just some small fixes with pets and we are totally awesome..Need to make pets more active part of our rotations and not a passive dmg output…..
Other niches are:
- Being able to rally multiple allies at the same time, using “Search and Rescue” or Spirit of Nature
- Using the pet as a short termed tank against a boss, to take pressure off your allies
- Being able to stack a ton of AoE snare skills, to keep foes in AoE circles
- Short termed stealth for greater movement
- Healing Spring, which is one of the best healing skills in the game
- Great invulnerability with “Protect Me” and traited Signet of Stone
- Curing conditions from allies, with Healing Spring, Signet of Renewal, Spirit of Nature, and the Brown Bear

Welcome to the club! Now avoid the forums at all cost, you’ll hear mainly complaints and it gets old. I’ve never had to many issues with ranger and I love playing it to be honest.

I won’t lie. This post is truth. If you are having fun.. STAY AWAY FROM US.
I want to love mine. I really do…

Don’t Rangers have the same damage boosts + Pet and higher skill damage?

Not the same multipliers and they can’t maintain might iirc?
The secondary skills don’t do good damage for ranged attacks.
I mentioned the pet iirc?
But like I said, if you’re having fun… have fun.

Glad you do, ran around in an organized guild zerg last night (not my guild, was tagging along), never once did the commander call out “need Rangers to do this”, yet every other class was asked to do something during the run, yes even thieves asked to scout out a few things… However, when he asked another class for water fields, I did oblige, even if not asked, specifically.

We should all just refuse to ever use Healing spring.
Of course then they’d probably just buff Ele water fields so we’d really never be missed…
NVM GUYS IT WAS A BAD PLAN.

Heh, I did receive my first compliment ever on a Fractal run, guys kept commenting about the well placed Water Fields, kept wondering who was dropping them….
