After a lot of thinking I have chosen to go for the Dreamer. I am a casual player and do not have a lot of time to play. I am interested in some advice from anyone who has started to obtain the Dreamer or anyone who is going to obtain any legendary.

I kittening love Dreamer, as a legendary. But Anet gutted the weapon pretty badly in order to make LB looks good so…. yeah.

I love the Dreamer but decided not to bother with it after they murdered the SB range. Go for it if you use the weapon.

For generic legendary stuff:
- get your world completion done first: you need the Gift of Exploration anyway, and it’ll allow you to gather mats on every single map, and the map rewards will add up to that. Keep what you need (the wood planks mainly) and sell the rest, it’ll come in handy.
- there’s no way around it: you’ll need gold, lots of gold, so try and earn some every day in whatever way you prefer. Just spending a bit of time gathering wood/ore and selling it will get you a few golds a day with the current prices. For the Dreamer, you don’t need ore apart from 250 orichalcum ingots, so go wild on mining/selling iron and platinum. That’ll come in handy later when you need the 100 icy runestones (100g) and when you want to top up your T6 mats to 250 of each for the Gift of Magic and Gift of Might.
- craft the 77 Mystic Clovers before topping up the T6 mats, as when the recipe “fails” you get a stack of T6 mats. You’ll rage when it’s leather or gossamer, but weep for joy when it’s powerful blood.
- as you build up stacks that you’ll need later for a Gift (like stacks of wood planks), store them in a personal bank guild or on a bank alt. That’ll avoid using/selling the stuff by mistake.

I can’t help with the precursor quest, as i only did it for cheap precursor (the underwater ones), whereas when i crafted The Moot i simply bought the prec on TP for ~240g at the time. Just know that crafting it will probably cost you more than buying it outright, so if you enjoy taking the time, doing the collections, and gathering mats (plenty of spiritwood planks required i presume), go for it. It may tie up well with world exploration too as the collections will take you all around the world. Otherwise, just focus on making daily gold and you’ll get there too, possibly faster.

And of course, if you’re a wvwer, make sure you show some taste and craft the final legendary recipe at the top of Stonemist.

anet nerfed SB into the ground a while back, thats why you rarely see a ranger running it anymore. it used to be far more popular than the LB. they reduced the range, damage and auto attack speed i think.

AA speed nerf, sorry, “animation fix” was done very early in the game. It predates the “we’d like you to use LB more” 1200->900 range nerf. Skills 2-5 damage have been increased as far as i can remember, but it’s sort of irrelevant since they’re mainly there for utility, the damage came from constant AA with stacked modifiers (full endurance, flanking, etc). After that, SB was left untouched while LB received buff after buff, leading to the reverse situation from those early days, with LB omnipresent and SB being the niche weapon.

I’d probably play with the SB again in wvw if LOYF increased the range back to 1200.

It should be easier now than when I made mine because bots are cleaned up and there are lots more places like Southsun to pick up t5 for conversion and t6 bloods. There’s also lots of stuff you can sell to buy the t5 and dust as well as ascended crafting giving you lots more potential gold to play with if you’re willing to put in the time.

The Dreamer is actually one of the easier legendaries because jewels and wood are inexpensive and easy to gather respectively. I’d make the gift of wood first then sell spiritwood planks.

As for WvW you’ll want to get all the base world hero points (which you will have anyway since you need the gift of exploration) and a couple of HoT ones to max out your druid. The best class overall for WvW seems to be elementalist since reading their telegraphs is hard in all that chaos while staff brings lots of great resources to the table (big combo fields like a chill ice field, meteor storm for scattering, staff 3 firewall and hope pistol/pistol thieves and longbow rangers rapid fire and unlock through it when it’s up) but the problem here is celestial gear is time gated. I have a full set of ascended celestial on my ele, even an ascended cele ring and amulet but some exotic viper and minstrel’s should be okay (I think?)

However, WvW is dead so getting those badges will take awhile, and unlike when I started there are dailies now that reward badges. In 2012 I’d do WvW with a thief and mostly solo roam but took out the shortbow for combo fields and bleeding projectiles. Shadow Arts, Acrobatics, and trickery was a nice combination back then.

Obsidian shards no longer require an Orr event to complete like when I started. Just farm Silverwaste or the Glorious Armor reward track and you’ll get there.

If I had to choose again…I’d still have gotten my Dreamer. It’s the only legendary that I ever truly wanted and was willing to put all that pixel work into. Yeah a GS would have probably been more economical…seeing as they are trying to make all professions use the kitten things, but it can’t shoot a pink unicorn. I keep hoping they’ll let other professions be able to wield it one day, til then I mostly use it when I am doing solo stuff.

It doesn’t lend itself too much to the current meta with a Ranger, though if you have a Thief you will find more use out of the legendary. If they’d work on un-gutting the stupid Ranger SB skills it would help…they pretty much trashed the kitten out of it to make the LB look more attractive. Kept hoping the new updated skills would do something for the poor SB but it got ignored, like always.

Good luck and the Wiki, with it’s list of things you need, will be invaluable for crafting a legendary…especially now since you can craft the precursor. All I can recommend is dropping it into your favorites and get used to referring back to it

Don’t let everyone else try to talk you out of making the legendary you want to make. Do it because you like the skin/the particle effects/want to shoot a pink unicorn. If you make another legendary just because more professions can use it but you don’t really want it…it’s not worth the effort!
