For a long time now I have had a level 80 ranger, but due to reasons we all know I have benched the ranger and the game for a while. So, recently I decided to revisit the game and dust off my ranger to see if it has gotten any better, but to no avail. I have been tempted to reroll a warrior, but I cannot bring myself to do it. The furthest I got was browsing the warrior subsection on the forums to see why they had so much more DPS than, what I thought should be one of the highest DPS classes, our ranger.

I came to the immediate conclusion that it was because the warriors would go full “zerker” builds for their equipment and trait loadout and being able to reach numbers in the 5k+ effective power, 22%+ damage, 73%+ crit chance, and 109% crit damage using a greatsword.

So I thought to myself “what if I applied these same concepts to our ranger?” As far as equipment and trait loadout this is the final result:

It comes out to 5.3k effective power, 21% damage, 56% crit chance, and 105% crit damage using SB/SW+TO. So it is fairly close to that of a warrior and because of this I want to believe that rangers can get somewhat close to the DPS or just plain damage output of a warrior to make us a viable choice for anything.

So I pose these two questions:
1. What utility loadouts would compliment the build I posted?
2. Is there a better loadout that could produce similar, if not better, stats?

With shortbow it will be still around 500dmg under critical damage at its finest to tanky guardian.
Plus the fact armor is around 2k = two, maybe three hits for thief.

The problem with a full zerker Ranger versus a full zerker Warrior, even if our dps was comparable (which it isn’t), is that we aren’t as survivable when going glass cannon, which means one or two good hits is enough to bring us down, while a zerker Warrior can rely on his/her heavier armor and skills to keep on trucking. That’s not to say a zerker Ranger doesn’t have its place or that you can’t make one work, it’s just that when you’re out of evades or when you’re just at the wrong place at the wrong time… you’re done.

It isn’t about getting ‘stomped’, it’s about being equal competing professions, which is impossible if Anet continues this trend of ignoring Ranger’s problems and nerfing it constantly.

But I can fight from 1500 range and the warrior has to be within 100 ._.

I wanted to believe last time.

Won’t fall for that one again.
